Our Lady of the Assumption School 2141 Walnut Avenue, Carmichael, CA 95608 (916) 489-8958 March 14, 2017 With Hands to Serve and Hearts to Love NOTE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL Rates of Tuition As you are aware, there are two rates of tuition at OLA School: discounted and standard. A discounted rate of tuition is available for families who meet all of the following criteria: Must be a registered Catholic member of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish. Must attend weekend Mass regularly and be active in parish life. Must contribute a minimum of $500 annually (approximately $10 week) to OLA Parish using Parish Pay or the parish envelopes on a monthly or weekly basis. Families who choose not to meet these criteria pay the standard rate of tuition. Each spring, the status of each family is assessed by the parish staff. Now that the registration period is over, the parish will begin its annual review. Over the next few weeks, families will receive letters informing them if they will be receiving the discounted or standard rate of tuition. If you have any questions, please direct them to me at love@olaparish.net. We have recently received from the diocese a template to complete our budget for the 2016-2017 school year, and we are working on it now. When the budget is complete, tuition rates for next school year will be announced. Kelley Smith We received news this week that Kelley Smith will be leaving his post as the parish business manager for our parish. Kelley is a former OLA student and parent, and his service to our parish these past 8 years as parish business manager is most appreciated. We wish Kelley the best of luck in his future endeavors. (Mr. Roderick) Jaeya Leavitt (3) - For diligently cleaning somebody else s paint spills off the floor. (Mrs. Jacobs) Amelia Totten (5) and Henry Totten (1) - Thank you for helping set up the cones for morning drop-off. (Mrs. Kick) VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES As a reminder, all K-8 families are required to work 8 Country Fair hours or 2 Country Fair shifts while Preschool only families work 4 Country Fair hours or 1 Country Fair shift. While the Country Fair is celebrating its 67 th year as one of Carmichael s beloved longstanding traditions, the Golf Tournament has fast become a favorite annual Sacramento event in its 8 th year! Few, if any, other area parish schools are able to pull off one event of this magnitude, much less two great events within one week of each other! But if anyone can do it, OLA can! This year, to help ensure continued success of both events, families are offered a chance to work either event or a combination of both events to meet their hour requirement; meaning Golf Tournament hours may be substituted hour for hour for Country Fair hours. Golf Tournament hours are limited and are meant to offer families who are unable to work any or part of the Country Fair weekend a chance to fulfill their commitment. If you have any questions, please email rachaelh@outlook.com Country Fair: Families needing pre Country Fair hours due to previous commitments, such as being out of town the weekend of the fair, please contact the work force chair Michelle Munn at michelle@englishgardencare.com. A few sub chair positions remain open, if you have an interest in helping with these roles, please contact Amy Kuzmich at ackuzmich@gmail.com: Fish Pond - Organize and oversee work force. NO live fish. Children play for tickets redeemable for fish after the fair at a pet store. Photo Booth - creative fun role organizing props and overseeing the work force for the photo booth. Assistance needed during kindergarten lunch hour in the Extension Cottage: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Fridays: 10:45 to 11:45; Thursdays: 10:35 to 11:35. Please contact Lynn Sweeney or Ms. Cori at 489-8958 ext. 30 Hot lunch: We need a parent volunteer to assist during hot lunch. Continue Your Lenten Journey with Bishop Barron s Study of the Eucharist: Come and join your fellow parishioners beginning Wednesday, March 22 nd, and continuing March 29 th and April 5 th, in St. John s Hall, from 7-8pm, to continue your Lenten journey with Bishop Barron s Study of The Eucharist. Bishop Barron offers inspiring insights into the mystery of Christ s presence in our lives and the centrality of the Eucharist as an important part of that presence. So many believers do not understand the Eucharist, which Vatican II said is the source and summit of the Christian life. This fresh look at the Eucharist brings to light its reality as sacred meal, the sacrifice necessary for communion with God, and the Real Presence of Christ. PARISH YOUTH NEWS Unplugged Retreat for 8th 12th Graders: April 8, 2017, 1 9pm, at St. Clare Church, Roseville. OLA Youth Groups - 7th/8th Grades: Meetings are on Wednesdays, from 7:00-8:30pm, in Seton Hall. Please contact Johann Rubia-Miller for more information at 488-4626 or youth@olaparish.net. Then, attend Mass together and experience our faith through prayers and worship. There will be a light dinner in the youth room from 6:30pm to 7:15pm followed by attendance at the 7:30pm Mass. Help to participate in the Mass by greeting, ushering, bringing up the gifts, and Reading. This evening is for youth in grades 7 12. RSVP is not required. If you have any questions please contact OLA Youth Minister, Johann Miller, at 486-4626 or youth@olaparish.net Stations of the Cross URGENT: Students from our school and Faith Formation classes have been requested to help with Stations of the Cross this year on Friday, March 24 th at 7:00pm. These Stations will follow the Fish Fry held in the gym beginning at 5:30pm. Please attend the Fish Fry (Reservations due by March 19 th ), and come watch your son or daughter walk the path from Jersulem to Calvary as our youth enact the Stations of the Cross. Faith Formation students have been asked to volunteer and a few of them have come forth. We will have practice on Sunday only, March 19 th, from 12:00Noon to 2:00pm. If we all come together and work hard, this may be the only practice needed. When you come to pick your son or daughter up on Sunday, please come into the church to pick them up, and if we need another time to get together we can discuss it. I find all our students tend to learn quickly and should be able to learn their part quickly.
