Service of Worship Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost August 20, 2017 Eleven o clock in the morning Bridging Faith and Learning The Canaanite Woman Asks for Healing for Her Daughter, Coptic art by Ilyas Basim Khuri Bazzi Rahib, c. 1684 In this morning s Gospel reading, Jesus offers challenging words, teaching that outward religious piety is not enough to purify us, but rather what defiles comes out of the mouth and itself proceeds from the inward heart. A Canaanite woman displays a heart of pure faith and moves Jesus to heal her demon-oppressed daughter, even though she is not part of the house of Israel.

The Chapel welcomes families with children; if at any time during the service your child needs a place for active play, please know there is a nursery in the Chapel basement. On this Communion Sunday, families with children are invited to sit up front, so they can better observe The Great Thanksgiving. The congregation is invited to reflect silently during the prelude as a time of prayer and meditation. The After-Hours Permit allows parking on campus from 5:00 p.m. to 6:59 a.m. during weekdays as well as all day on Saturdays and Sundays.
