Order of Worship OPENING PRAYER OPENING HYMN Come to Calvary's Holy Mountain {tlh 149} INVOCATION P: O Lord, open my lips. C: And my mouth shall show forth Your praise. (Psalm 51:15) P: Make haste, O God, to deliver me. C: Make haste to help me, O Lord. (Psalm 70:1) CONFESSION Psalm 51 (ws page 28) ABSOLUTION P: Do not let your heart be troubled. Your sins are forgiven. The Lord be with you. C: And also with you. OLD TESTAMENT READING isaiah 53:1-12 {esv} Who has believed what they heard from us? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? 2 For he grew up before him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground; he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him. 3 He was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 4 Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. 7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth. 8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living, stricken for the transgression of my people? 9 And they made his grave with the wicked and with a rich 2

man in his death, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth. 10 Yet it was the will of the LORD to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makes an offering for sin, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. 11 Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities. 12 Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors. ENSEMBLE {1 PM} Out of the Depths {7 PM} How Deep the Father's Love for Us PASSION HISTORY READING CONFESSION OF FAITH It is taught among us that we cannot obtain forgiveness of sin and righteousness before God by our own merits, works, or satisfactions, but that we receive forgiveness of sin and become righteous before God by grace, for Christ s sake, through faith, when we believe that Christ suffered for us and that for His sake our sin is forgiven and righteousness and eternal life are given to us. For God will regard and reckon this faith as righteousness. Amen. (Augsburg Confession Article IV) HYMN O Dearest Jesus, What Law Hast Thou Broken {tlh 143:1-5} SERMON TEXT hebrews 9:11-14 Pastor Joe Naumann But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. 12 Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. 13 For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, 14 how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? 3

Keep Your Eyes On Jesus Who Endured the Cross HE IS OUR ETERNAL REDEMPTION OFFERTORY On My Heart Imprint Thine Image {tlh 179} On my heart imprint Thine image, Blessed Jesus, King of Grace, That life's riches, cares, and pleasures Have no pow'r Thee to efface. This the superscription be: Jesus crucified for me, Is my Life, my hope's Foundation, And my Glory and Salvation. Amen. OFFERING PRAYERS P: Let my prayer rise before You as incense, C: The lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice. (Psalm 141:2) A LENTEN PRAYER All: I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have graciously kept me today, and I pray that You would forgive me all my sins, wherever I have done wrong, and graciously protect me tonight. Into Your hands I entrust my body and soul and everything else. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the devil may have no power over me. Amen. THE SERVICE OF THE SACRAMENT P: Lift up your hearts. C: We lift them up to the Lord P: It is right and beneficial that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, O Lord, holy Father, almighty and everlasting God. Therefore with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we magnify Your glorious Name, evermore praising You and saying: C: Holy, Holy, Holy (WS page 18) 4

WORDS OF INSTITUTION C: Lamb of God (ws page 19) DISTRIBUTION Our Practice of Close Communion We believe that God desires unity of faith and confession among all who commune together. All communicant members of Immanuel and of our sister congregations in the Church of the Lutheran Confession are welcome at the Lord s Table. If there are visitors present who wish to commune with us in the future, you are invited to speak with Pastor Naumann after the service. Please register for Communion at either binder in the front or rear of church. Members who have difficulty at the kneeling rail may sit in the front pew on either side. The pastors will bring communion to you. Communicants sitting in the balcony should come down to the narthex for direction to the table. If you desire the bread in your hand, simply extend your hand to the Pastor as he approaches you with the bread COMMUNION HYMNS Jesus, Grant That Balm and Healing {tlh 144} Christ the Life of All the Living {tlh 151} C: O Lord, Now Let Your Servant (ws page 20) BENEDICTION CLOSING HYMN Go to Dark Gethsemane {tlh 159} Scripture taken from the New King James Version.
