FROM THE PASTOR S DESK Item One: The 140th Anniversary Gala is set for Saturday, October 20th at Immaculate Conception Center, Douglaston. Please save the date and plan on joining with fellow parishioners past and present to celebrate this milestone in our parish s history. Tickets can be purchased by filling out the form in the bulletin and returning it to the rectory or sending it in by mail. Tickets are also available in the vestibule of the church after all weekend Masses. Item Two: We are also selling Super Raffle tickets. Only 400 tickets will be sold at $100 each. The winner will receive $20,000 and the parish will receive $20,000 (provided all the tickets are sold). Tickets are on sale in the vestibule of the church after all weekend Masses. Item Three: Next weekend there will be a second collection in support of Habitat for Humanity. Please help to support the work that we at Sacred Heart and other members of the Queens Coalition are doing to build affordable housing in southeastern Queens. Habitat would also welcome more parishioners to join them by volunteering on a monthly basis on a Habitat home. Beginning in October the meetings will be held each Monday morning from 10am to 12 noon. Also on Friday mornings from 10am to 12 noon. The Sacred Heart Parish New Mother s Club is for parents (includes grandparents & sitters) and their young children. No Dues, No Registration is necessary. On Fridays, Ms. Patricia LaProvidenza will lead the group on Friday mornings. Both groups use an easily accessible classroom in the school. The room has toys and books. Our goal is to create a relaxing environment for both parents and children to meet with one another. We then meet twice a week through June except when the school is closed. Anyone in the parish who volunteers in any position that involves children is required by our Diocese to attend a three hour workshop called, Protecting All God s Children. FAMILY MASS The next Family Mass will be held on October 14th at 9:30 Mass. At the Baptism Ceremony parents are reminded that they are the first teachers of their children, teaching them in all things especially their faith. One of the best ways to do this is to attend Mass together as a family. We celebrate Family Mass monthly at Sacred Heart. Readings from the children s liturgies are used. Children s Choir - Sacred Heart has a Parish Children s Choir which performs at our Family Masses. All children that sing are welcome to join. Choir practice is held on the Thursday before the Family Mass at 3:30pm in the school. For information, call Mrs. Lyons, at 718-631-1307. The Family Mass Schedule follows: for 2018 November 4th, December 2nd, for 2019 January 6th, February 3rd, February 10th, March 3rd, April 7th, May 5th & June 2nd. CHILDRENS LITURGY OF THE WORD The next CLOW Mass will be held on Nov., 18th at 9:30 Mass. What is CLOW? During Mass, after the opening prayer, children Pre-K through 6th grade, are invited to go to the church hall to hear the readings of the day proclaimed and explained in age appropriate language. The children rejoin their families during the preparation of the gifts at the offertory. Younger children are often accompanied by their parents. For information, call Sr. Kathleen at 718 224-5695. The CLOW Mass schedule is as follows: for 2018 December 16th, for 2019 January 13th, February 24th, March 17th, April 14th, May 12th & June 16th. ROSARY ALTAR SOCIETY WELCOMES NEW MEMBERS! It is our pleasure to welcome new members to the Rosary Altar Society. Our 2018-2019 season has begun. Part of our mission is to encourage spiritual and temporal works in our parish community while honoring our Blessed Mother. We dedicate ourselves to this commitment in all we do: decorating the altar, caring for the flowers and linens, reciting the rosary after mass, sponsoring a yearly Bridge to Life Baby Shower in October and assisting with the May Crowning. Our raffles enable us to make donations to various causes; our guest speakers, films, and occasional retreats inspire spiritual discussions at our monthly meetings held on the 2nd Thursday of every month, September through May. We thank all of our members for their tireless work and look forward to meeting new members who wish to join. SACRED HEART LEISURE CLUB Our Leisure Club will meet on Wednesday, October 3rd 2018 Sacred Heart Church welcomes seniors every other WEDNESDAY throughout the year to our church hall. We provide a comfortable atmosphere where seniors can greet and meet one another. If you are not a member of the Leisure Club, we welcome you to bring your friends during the summer. The church hall is air-conditioned so invite your friends to meet here. We d love to have you. Danish and coffee are available. There is an entrance fee of $3.00. TACHS EXAM Students in 8 th grade during the 2018-2019 school year wishing to apply for fall admission into Catholic High Schools in the Archdiocese of New York and the Diocese of Brooklyn need to take the TACHS EXAM. Students attending Sacred Heart Academy will receive the information package in school. The test is designed to measure school aptitude and scholastic achievement in reading, mathematics and language. Beginning September 6 th you can pick up the registration package in the Office of Religious Education. The Exam will be given on Saturday, November 3, 2018.

See what we are all about. Our parish is the sponsor of the BEST Boy Scout Troop in Bayside. Membership is open to all eligible boys regardless of school, religion, race ethnicity, etc. You must be 11 years old or in the 6th grade or higher to join. Parent s permission is required. We offer the opportunity to have fun, while learning personal responsibility, self reliance, confidence, leadership skills and teamwork. The Scouting program is designed to strengthen a boy s character, and through action and example develop citizenship, spirituality, environmental awareness, and community service. Sacred Heart Academy BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION REGISTRATION FOR THE 2018-2019 SCHOOL YEAR IS ONGOING CLASSES began on SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 15th. Our program is for children in public or private schools. The Diocese requires two years of religious instruction to receive the sacrament of communion. This program is for children first thru eight grade, older children and special needs children. Sacred Heart Catholic Academy has the potential to earn several thousand dollars per year For those of you not familiar with Box Tops, General Mills has a program that pays $0.10 for every Box Top that we submit to them. Please cut or tear the Box Top Logo off the product. It does not have to be trimmed neatly, just be sure that you don t cut off the expiration date or product acronym. THE LOUNGE The Lounge Youth Group will not take place with middle school students during its usual time, however during the day on Thursdays, all young people are always welcome to stop by the rectory and spend time playing games, discussing, or helping out, with youth ministry openly. Please just call ahead if you child wants to stop by during these summer months. However those leaving eighth grade and entering High School are welcome to join the high school session on Sunday nights. The SESSION Sunday Nights from 6:30pm to 8pm Takes place in the rectory basement. Primarily for High-School students. At the session students see videos, have discussions, play music.
