Good News from St. Pius X/St. Leo School "St. Pius X / St. Leo School is a diverse community forming students in the Catholic faith to excel in academics and service to others." Hello St. Pius X / St. Leo Community members, I hope you are all having a wonderful summer and have had a safe and fun Fourth of July! We are excited to share that we are currently collecting caps and lids for a school Buddy Bench to be placed at our school playground areas. A Buddy Bench is a pretty simple idea that is geared towards eliminating loneliness during outside social activities and will promote inclusion and foster kindness during outside play activities. For students who are looking for a friend, may be new to the school or in need of support they would be able to sit on the Buddy Bench. Our students who are not sitting on the bench would know that it is important to invite our classmates who are in need of friendship to join in on the fun activities. It is important at our school that we continue to strive to be a community of inclusion and empathy while providing safe spaces for our students to help eliminate loneliness and foster friendships. St. Pius X/St. Leo School Special Note: The school office will be closed at different times during the summer. When our office is open, our office hours during the day will be 9:00am until 4:00pm with time off for lunch. It s always wise, during the summer to call ahead to make sure we are in the office at the particular time you d like to come. Our school office number is 402-551-6667. Right now, we are collecting caps and lids to help us in building the bench with those recyclable materials. We would love your help and we will have bins at our school and parishes to collect these materials. Below is a list of the acceptable caps and lids to help us in our efforts to build these benches. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the school. Thank you for your help and amazing support! Acceptable Caps: medicine bottle caps, drink bottle caps, milk jug caps, flip-top caps (e.g. ketchup, mustard), detergent caps, spout caps (e.g. mustard), hair spray caps, spray paint caps, toothpaste cube caps, ointment tube caps, deodorant caps and caps with recycle numbers of 2, 4 & 5. Acceptable Lids: cottage cheese container lids, cool whip container lids, mayonnaise jar lids, coffee can lids, yogurt lids, cream cheese container lids, peanut butter jar lids, butter container lids, ice cream bucket lids under 8, prescription bottles w/labels removed. If you have children in grades Pre-Kindergarten (3-year-old and 4-year-old programs) to Grade 8 that you are thinking about sending to our school for the next school year, please call our school office at 402-551-6667 to set up a time to come and visit, and, then enroll your child/ren when you decide to come to our school. We are blessed that our grades are filling up fast but we would love for you and your family to join our school family next year. 06 l St. Leo Catholic Church

In Pursuit of Life, Love and Happiness By: Deacon Jim Shipman Do you remember when we were in school and teams were picked to play a team sport? The best players always seemed to be leaders and they picked their team members. I was not a good athlete and it seemed that I was always picked last. However, when it comes to the Lord, he does not pick the strongest, the quickest, or the smartest, but he picks those who are faithful and who believe in His mission. Our Gospel today finds Jesus sending out his disciples two by two to preach the Gospel. Jesus picked simple men for his team, whom He developed into the leaders of his Church. In the same way our Lord calls each one of us for his team and He molds us into something greater than ourselves. He has chosen us to accomplish his will by proclaiming to all we meet the word of truth which he gives us through his Holy Spirit. Our Lord will lavish upon His graces and gifts if we but ask. By doing so, Jesus gives to us the wisdom and insight to accomplish all things according to His will. He also calls us to be Holy and without blemish before him so that those graces He gives us will shine before all we encounter. Look at our first reading where Amos is called by God to be a prophet to Israel. He was a shepherd and a dresser of sycamores, but God called him to accomplished great things. When we are selected to be a part of the Jesus team, we are showered with every spiritual blessings in heavens, and we can accomplish more than we can possibly imagine. St. Leo Knights of Columbus RSVP is needed for our family event Friday, July 27 (6-7pm) in the Fireplace Room!! Knights and families are asked to attend.
