THE L.I.F.E. PLAN THE EXISTENCE OF GOD BLOCK 1 THEME 1 - GOD LESSON 1 (1 of 216)

BLOCK 1 THEME 1: GOD LESSON 1 (1 OF 216): THE EXISTENCE OF GOD LESSON AIM: To introduce us to the one true and living God, and or to several important truths about him which may encourage us to learn more about him. There is one and only one Supreme Being in the entire universe. His name is Jehovah and we call him God. He is the reason everything else exists. Without him, nothing could exist. The Bible is our guide to learning of and understanding who this God is, what he does, and why this should be important in our life. Since he is God, he is infinite. There is more to know of him than the human mind can possibly contain. The study of God, getting to know him, and serving him, should be our lifetime pursuit. The Bible is a very special book. It is unlike any other book in the entire world. It is a book that was inspired by God, written by men under his direction, and given to mankind. It is the revelation of God himself to man. His story is told using the stage of human history. The Bible tells us many things about God. Let s think about some of those things in this lesson. First, there is only one true God. There are many rivals to him. Throughout your lifetime, you will be presented with information that says there are other gods. These are not real gods. They are counterfeits offered by Satan, the arch-enemy of God. He has planted these ideas into the imaginations of people as a way to draw away their hearts and their allegiance from the true God. Do not be fooled by this scheme of the adversary. Trust the Bible when it says, I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me. (Isaiah 45:5) KJV. Next, the Bible tells us that this one true and living God exists in three distinct persons. He is one God, but manifests himself in three persons; The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. We call this the Trinity. This is a mystery to us and can be difficult to understand. Yet, we must believe it. The Bible says, But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Hebrews 11:6) KJV. We will learn about each of these three persons in the three following lessons. Third, God is the creator of all things. God alone existed before anything else existed. The things which exist were created by God from nothing. He spoke them into existence by the powerful words from his mouth. God created the universe and everything in it, including man. In fact, man was his grandest creation because we were created in the image of God. This is one of the things that makes you very special. As you grow and learn, you will read from books or will be told by people that things came into being in ways other than by the creative work of God. This is a lie from Satan. The Bible tells us, In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. (Genesis 1:1) KJV.

Fourth, this one true and living God who created man has also revealed himself to man in order that men may know him. God has revealed himself to man in many ways. Here are some of those ways. God has revealed himself to man through nature. We can learn much about God from the created world. God has revealed himself to man through conscience. Something inside of us agrees with the reality of God and with good over evil. God has revealed himself to man through reason. Man s ability to figure things out reveals the reality of God since we are created in his likeness. Nothing else in all creation can do this to the degree to which man can reason. God has revealed himself to man through the Bible. The Bible is God s Word, given to us that we might know God s ways, his purpose, and his love. And, God has revealed himself to man through Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Son of God. He is the second person of the Trinity. He came specifically to reveal the Father to man (John 1:18; 14:7,9). It is specifically through the truth of the Bible and the revelation of Jesus Christ that we can know the only true God. This brings us to the last truth we want to mention in this lesson: this one true and living God wants to have a relationship with you. This relationship is possible because of the Lord Jesus Christ and his death on the cross and by his resurrection from the dead. The work of Jesus is the only basis on which God will recognize a relationship with himself. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (John 14:6) KJV. You can begin this relationship with God by telling him in prayer that you truly believe that Jesus is the Christ. This relationship with God is also personal. While there have been billions of people on the earth during man s history, you can have a personal relationship with God as if you were the only person who ever lived. When you believe on Jesus in your heart, God will come and live within your spirit. He will never leave you and he will never forsake you. He will be with you wherever you go and in all things you experience. He will love you and enjoy spending time with you. He will speak to you and guide you as you read and study the Bible. You can have your very own relationship with God which will be unique from any other person s relationship with him. This is something God wants to share with you on a daily basis. Lastly, this relationship with God is purposeful. During the time in which we live on earth, God is working to get the news about Jesus and of the relationship man can have with God through him to all peoples of the earth. This is a work in which God wishes for you to help. God has great plans for you in this purpose if you will be committed to learn what it is all about, and if you will work at it continually throughout the rest of your life. This purpose of God will give the highest and best meaning and purpose to your life on earth. He is waiting for your decision to join him in this purpose. Look over this lesson again and underscore the major truths we have talked about. Think about these truths. Ask God to help you understand them. Commit yourself to spend time every day learning of God and knowing him better. Join him in the work he is doing to help others throughout the world to know him as well.
