In order to make-up for missing the March Home Meeting, you must complete all 5 parts and turn in parts 3, 4 & 5 only to your facilitator by the Super Sunday in April (4/13) or at your discernment interview. This session includes participation by your sponsor, please share the following information with them and do the make-up together. Today s session is on the 7 Gifts of the Holy Spirit. You may be asking yourself, what are these gifts and when do I receive them? When you were baptized, you were graced with the gift of knowledge, counsel, courage, wisdom, wonder and awe, piety and understanding. Through the Sacrament of Confirmation, our baptismal grace is strengthened and unites us more firmly to Christ. Confirmation increases the Gifts of the Holy Spirit which bonds us closer with the Church and gives us strength to spread and defend the faith by word and action as true witnesses to Christ, to confess the name of Christ boldly and to never be ashamed of the cross 2 Things that should be mentioned are: Confirmation is not Choosing to be Catholic. Your are already Catholic The end of your faith journey it is truly only the beginning

Part 1 Part 2 Watch the Video Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers on the Holy Spirit for CHOSEN at http://youtu.be/1avbd5uqjea (1:28) and The Gifts of the Holy Spirit at http://youtu.be/lmewacqkvse (5:24) Discuss with your sponsor these questions 1. What s the best gift you ve ever received? 2. What makes a good gift? 3. What is the most loving gift you have received or given? 4. For sponsors, how do the gifts of the Holy Spirit help you live your faith? 5. For candidates, which gift(s) of the Holy Spirit do you feel most connected with or need more understanding of? With your sponsor, write a prayer together that you both can pray daily to help you prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation. (Both the sponsor and confirmande will have a copy of the same prayer) Part 3 Candidate, write at least a half page explanation of why you chose the person you did to be your sponsor and how they have helped you along this faith journey. Sponsor, write at least a half page paper of what it means to you to be their sponsor and ways that you will be present with them along their faith journey even after they receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Part 4 Please read the list of gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit below. After reading, write a half page paper describing which gift of the Holy Spirit that best applies to you and which one you need more of. Additionally, write a response listing which fruits of the Holy Spirit you currently are bearing and if there are some fruits that you can improve in, please explain how you plan to improve those in your life. The Gifts of the Holy Spirit:

Wisdom is the gift of knowing the right choices to make to live a holy life. The gift of wisdom helps you to avoid the things that could lead you away from God. Understanding is the gift of comprehension, or the ability to grasp the meaning of the teachings of the Church. The gift of understanding helps you be tolerant and sympathetic of others. It helps you sense when someone is hurting or in need of compassion. Right Judgment, or Counsel, is the gift of prudence. The gift of right judgment helps you make choices to live as a faithful follower of Jesus. Courage, or Fortitude, is the gift that helps you stand up for your faith in Christ. The gift of courage helps you overcome any obstacles that would keep you from practicing your faith. Knowledge is the gift of knowing and enlightenment. The gift of knowledge enables you to choose the right path that will lead you to God. It encourages you to avoid obstacles that will keep you from him. Reverence, or Piety, is the gift of confidence in God. This gift of reverence inspires you to joyfully want to serve God and others. Wonder and Awe, or Fear of the Lord is the gift of wonder and respect that encourages you to be in awe of God. The gift of wonder and awe moves you to so love God that you do not want to offend him by your words or actions The Fruit of the Holy Spirit Love We exhibit the virtue of charity, or love, by our unselfish devotion and care for God and our neighbor. Joy We live with joy when we recognize that true happiness comes, not from money or possessions, but from knowing and following Christ. Peace We are freed from worrying about trivial things because of the inner peace we experience with God in our hearts. We work and pray for peace throughout the world. Patience We demonstrate patience by treating others with thoughtfulness and tolerance. We know that we can overcome the temptations and sufferings of life because God is always with us. Generosity We demonstrate the fruit of generosity when we are share our gifts and possessions with others. Gentleness Gentle people act calmly and avoid actions that might lead others to anger or resentment. Faithfulness We are faithful when we live out our commitment to the teachings of Jesus, the Scriptures, and the Catholic Church. Modesty We exhibit modesty by being pure in our thoughts, words, and dress. Self-control We exercise self-control by working to overcome the temptations we face and by trying always to do God s will. Chastity We live the virtue of chastity when we use the gift of sexuality wisely, according to God s plan. Part 5 Please Fill out the Saint Form on the following page, and turn it in to your Facilitator at the April Super Sunday.

Saint Form There will be a special program handed out at the Confirmation ceremony. In that program, every candidate (teen getting confirmed) will have their name and the name of their Confirmation saint listed. Please write in the space below how you would like your name listed in the program. Please include, as indicated below, one or two sentences that explain why you picked that particular saint. If the saint you did your report on at the beginning of the year does not inspire you, then pick a new saint that does. For example, if you picked a saint simply because they are the patron of an activity that interests you, but nothing particularly draws you to them then you can find a new saint. Please turn this form in at your Super Sunday on April 13 2:30-5:00. _ First Name Middle Name or Initial Last Name Saint Name Please complete ONE of the following sentences: 1. I picked Saint (or Blessed) _ because 2. Saint inspires me by (or because) 3. Saint reminds me that God is real because

Here are some examples of how the sentences above could be completed: I picked St. Therese because I am shy like she was and I believe even ordinary things done with great love for God can be extraordinary. I picked St. Rita because she endured difficult times and I ask her to be with me during my difficult times. St.Vincent de Paul inspires because he had great love for the sick and poor. I hope to serve others like he did. St. Maria Goretti inspires me because by her amazing capacity for forgiveness. St. Boniface inspires me because he was very courageous and I pray that the Holy Spirit will gift me with courage. Bl. Mother Teresa reminds me that God is real because her love and care for the poor was so great that the whole world knows who she was.
