ST. PATRICK s SCHOOL December 2016 Taber, Alberta Merry Christmas St. Pat s families, The season of advent is a special time to focus on faith, hope, joy, and love. We hear the amazing stories of Elizabeth and Mary awaiting the coming of their amazing sons. Mary and Elizabeth wait with expectant hope for God s will. These women remind us of the importance of family during the holiday season. The story of the nativity shows us all that all families have struggles and must work together to overcome challenges and persevere. Mary and Joseph must not only contend with God s plan, but also travel a great distance, find a place to stay, and cope with the birth of their son. Through the entire story, the holy family maintains God s love and support. Christmas is a special time for all of us to recognize God s presence in our families. During this Christmas break, take time with your family to nurture one another. With all the stress and worry that builds up throughout the year, but especially at Christmas, it is important to accept the love and support of others. Time together helps us feed our spirit and our soul, reminding us how important it is to support each other during both difficult times and times of celebration. Invite Christ into your holiday this year. God bless, To View Our Complete Website Go To: Mrs. Nevil www.holyspirit.ab.ca/st.patricks CHRISTMAS CONCERT Thursday, December 15th 7:00pm at the Civic Centre (doors open 6:30) SILVER COLLECTION AT THE DOOR GOES TO TABER FOOD BANK AND SAFE HAVEN Our theme is Rooted in Christmas Students will present a variety of traditional carols reminding us of the true meaning of Christmas. We are excited about how our concert connects to the theme of our Divisional Faith Plan; Rooted in Christ CHRISTMAS MASS Thursday, December 22nd 10am at St. Augustine s Church - Everyone Welcome Thanks to our School Council & parent volunteers, CHRISTMAS DINNER will be served to students, staff, and special guests following the mass. Our Christmas break is Dec 24th-Jan 8th.

Advent is upon us. Stay awake! Be ready! Prepare your hearts for the coming of our Lord, Jesus. Grade 1L has asked us all to be mindful of everyone s needs this advent season. Consider how you can help those around you. Donations to the food bank, donations of gently used clothing or toys, or support of various charities are great ways to prepare our hearts for Christmas. We have begun our weekly Advent celebrations. Please join us. Week 2 celebration on December 6 at 9:00am - hosted by 2C and 2/3W Week 3 celebration on December 12 at 9:00am - hosted by our Student Prayer Leaders Week 4 celebration on December 23 at 9:00am - candle ceremony hosted by the staff We have been blessed with the coming of Father Eli. He will be coming to share with our St. Patrick s community every Tuesday morning. What a true blessing this will be as we continue to build a strong relationship between our school and parish. St. Patrick s will be celebrating Christmas Mass on Thursday, December 22 at 10:00am at St. Augustine s church, followed by dinner at the Civic Centre for staff, students, and special guests. Thank you so much to all the individuals and businesses who have donated items and time to make this event possible. Our Bright Lights celebrations will be begin to focus on the 7 habits this month. The Bright Lights focus for December is Be Proactive. We will be looking for students who are responsible and take initiative. It will be important to choose your actions, attitudes, and mood. Those who are proactive do not blame others. They do the right thing without being asked, even when no one is looking. Have a blessed Advent and a very Merry Christmas. Mrs. Meghan Calder Library News Dear Parents and Students, Thank you so much for helping me make our Book Fair a success. Congratulations to our Family Event winner Nixen Miller and his teacher Mrs. Wickson. Also a big congrats to Ms. Sergo and Justin P. for winning the Book Fair Draws. Extra thank you to my volunteer moms and retired teachers it would be impossible without your assistance. From Mrs. Joblonkay Milk cards are available at the office $20 per card which is good for 20 purchases of plain milk, chocolate milk, or fruit juice. Well, Winter is Upon Us!! Outside recess is a great learning break for students and provides them with some fresh air. We try to have outside recess as much as possible if the weather allows. Just a reminder that our rule is that we only stay inside at recess if the weather feels colder than 20 degrees. So please, please make sure your child comes to school prepared for some outside fun. If your child forgets their gloves or toque please tell them to come to the office and we will find them something warm to wear.

Thank you to: McDonalds and the Alcantara family for donating coffee to the Staff. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The Siemen s family for the numerous treats they bring to staff. IGA and Co-op for their support and donations Thank you Constable Gyepesi For your internet safety presentation for grades 4 and 5. HOLY CHILDHOOD MISSION This year our grade five class is leading the school in supporting the Holy Childhood Missions. We have been a supporter of this organization for over twenty years. We are asking for your help during Advent to make a contribution using the donation boxes provided. Maybe have your children decide to help with bottle recycling, to give a portion of their allowances, or to dip into their own piggy banks to help other children around the world. Last year children in schools and parishes throughout Canada raised $302,718.83 to help children in Ghana, Madagascar, Namibia, Jamaica, Thailand and Mauritius. 100% of donations from children in Canada are earmarked exclusively for children in the developing world. Thank you for your kind and generous support. Please have your donations in by January 13th. Sincerely, Ms. Sergo and the Grade 5 s
