ST. PATRICK s SCHOOL December 2016 Taber, Alberta Merry Christmas St. Pat s families, The season of advent is a special time to focus on faith, hope, joy, and love. We hear the amazing stories of Elizabeth and Mary awaiting the coming of their amazing sons. Mary and Elizabeth wait with expectant hope for God s will. These women remind us of the importance of family during the holiday season. The story of the nativity shows us all that all families have struggles and must work together to overcome challenges and persevere. Mary and Joseph must not only contend with God s plan, but also travel a great distance, find a place to stay, and cope with the birth of their son. Through the entire story, the holy family maintains God s love and support. Christmas is a special time for all of us to recognize God s presence in our families. During this Christmas break, take time with your family to nurture one another. With all the stress and worry that builds up throughout the year, but especially at Christmas, it is important to accept the love and support of others. Time together helps us feed our spirit and our soul, reminding us how important it is to support each other during both difficult times and times of celebration. Invite Christ into your holiday this year. The Bright Lights focus for December is Be Proactive. We will be looking for students who are responsible and take initiative. It will be important to choose your actions, attitudes, and mood. Those who are proactive do not blame others. They do the right thing without being asked, even when no one is looking. Have a blessed Advent and a very Merry Christmas. Congratulations to our Family Event winner Nixen Miller and his teacher Mrs. Wickson. Also a big congrats to Ms. Sergo and Justin P. for winning the Book Fair Draws. Extra thank you to my volunteer moms and retired teachers it would be impossible without your assistance. From Mrs. Joblonkay Milk cards are available at the office $20 per card which is good for 20 purchases of plain milk, chocolate milk, or fruit juice. Well, Winter is Upon Us!! Outside recess is a great learning break for students and provides them with some fresh air. We try to have outside recess as much as possible if the weather allows. Just a reminder that our rule is that we only stay inside at recess if the weather feels colder than 20 degrees. So please, please make sure your child comes to school prepared for some outside fun. If your child forgets their gloves or toque please tell them to come to the office and we will find them something warm to wear.

We are asking for your help during Advent to make a contribution using the donation boxes provided. Maybe have your children decide to help with bottle recycling, to give a portion of their allowances, or to dip into their own piggy banks to help other children around the world. Last year children in schools and parishes throughout Canada raised $302,718.83 to help children in Ghana, Madagascar, Namibia, Jamaica, Thailand and Mauritius. 100% of donations from children in Canada are earmarked exclusively for children in the developing world.
