September 2018 Volume 70 Number 9 150 McSwain Drive West Columbia, SC 29169 (803) 794-2209 www.southcarolinanazarene.org I know that the Lord is doing something new in South Carolina. I am just so humbled, as well as excited, to discover what it will all entail. My family and I are so appreciative of the great welcome and support that we have experienced in this transition period. Those that we have encountered have made us feel at home and part of the family. And what a wonderful South Carolina Nazarene family! As I hear the stories of past district superintendents, pastors and lay people of this great South Carolina District, I am in awe of all the great women and men that God has used to position the district for this new thing that God wants to do. So I ask and wonder; could this new thing be revitalized and re-energized churches, with new and effective methods to reach the lost? Could this new thing be a great number of new leaders being developed to disciple new converts? Could this new thing be young people providing new energy to established ministries? Could this new thing be new pastors starting new churches? Could this new thing be that all the existing churches begin a new ministry to reach different kinds of people groups? Could this new thing be outrageous generosity being demonstrated in financial giving to local churches and to missions? Could this new thing be new ethnic and culture specific churches being started? Could this new thing be a new awakening to mentor and train a child in the ways of the Lord? Could this new thing be a new compassionate ministry initiative? Could this new thing be a new way to come together and celebrate camp or district assembly? Could this new thing be the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in bringing a new revival to the district? My goal is to be faithful to the call of God in my life and to serve Him by serving you. I am willing to listen, learn and lead as the Lord directs. Join me in asking God to lead us to this new thing. Serving Him by serving you, Sam Flores

What is Alabaster? The Alabaster Offering provides funds for property and buildings around the world. While we understand the church consists of the people of God and not a building, buildings erected for the purpose of ministry help provide a sense of permanence, functionally enhance ministry efforts, and convey an attitude that the Church of the Nazarene intends to "put down roots." Alabaster funds help provide land for many Work & Witness projects, and the entire Alabaster Offering goes toward the purchase of land and construction of churches, schools, medical facilities, and homes for missionaries and national workers. Nazarenes gave $2.46 million for Alabaster in 2017. In 2016-2017, Alabaster funds were released for 216 projects for the Church of the Nazarene in all six regions around the world. The Alabaster Offering is used in all six global regions. This last church year South Carolina gave $57,182 for Alabaster. This was an increase of $7,000 from the previous year. Thank you for giving to Alabaster. Prayer Prayer and LINKS are two of the top five NMI areas of impact. Let s remember to pray for our LINKS families, Bruce and Cinda McKellips, Harmon and Cindy Schmelzenbach, Mary Meighan, Jeffrey, Susan, Jessica, and Ethan Myers, and our CAA Missionary. How can you pray? Pray for their relationship with God, health, family, ministry, and the country where the missionary lives. God s People working together to end human trafficking When Jesus publicly announced his mission in Luke 4, he read from the prophesy in Isaiah 61:1-2. This mission is the same one that Jesus entrusted to His Church. Those words are a call for us today on Freedom Sunday to offer freedom for those who are enslaved. There is good news: the Lord cares for individuals who are exploited and vulnerable and offers healing and restoration. This is good news that we as the Church can share. By working together to end human trafficking, we can become part of fulfilling Jesus mission today. The Church of the Nazarene is active in many areas where people are vulnerable to human trafficking. Nazarene Compassionate Ministries (NCM) supports church-led antitrafficking efforts. Children s Mission Fair - October 13, 2018. More info coming soon. Your Freedom Offering will change lives. Your support will make a difference. It is amazing what God can do when people are willing to cross cultural and country boundaries to share the Good News of Christ! JESUS Film Harvest Partners is celebrating 21 years of ministry. Lives are changed for eternity! Last month alone, over 48,000 people gave their hearts to Jesus and will now spend eternity in heaven. This was made possible by JESUS Film teams going to new cultural groups with the JESUS film and orality tools. Thank you to each of you who have ministered with these teams as you delivered equipment and lifted them up in prayer. Continue to pray for the 681 JESUS Film teams as they faithfully share the gospel.
