One shall be young adult (age 19-30) and one may be a youth. In addition, the lay leader and a lay Member shall be members. No staff or immediate family of a pastor or staff member may serve. Only one from an immediate family residing in the same household shall serve. To secure experience and stability, the membership shall be divided into 3 classes, one of which shall be elected each year for a 3-year term. The lay Member and lay leader are exempt from the 3-year term [2012 Discipline, 258.2a-b]. Page: 6 The Board of Trustees shall consist of 3-9 persons, and it is recommended that at least 1/3 be laywomen and at least 1/3 be laymen. Trustees shall be of legal age, and at least 2/3 shall be professing members of The UMC.
