Order of Worship October 7, 2018 Twentieth Sunday after Pentecost Chapel Sanctuary 8:30 a.m. 10:00 a.m. RINGING OF THE BELLS PRELUDE Blessed Is He Who Comes in the Name of the Lord Sigfrid Karg-Elert WELCOME AND SHARING PARISH LIFE RESPONSIVE CALL TO WORSHIP One: We were created in relationship and for relationship. All: We are created for community! One: All: One: All: One: All: God knew it was not right for us to be alone. We are created for community! Through Jesus Christ, God entered into human relationship with us. We are created for community! We rejoice in our unity with all humanity. We are created for community!

HYMN OF GATHERING #75 I Was There to Hear Your Borning Cry The Member Care Team will collect written prayer requests during this hymn. UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION God-made flesh, bone of our bone, we confess that we think we can go it alone, that we try to do it all, and in doing so, we neglect the gifts you have given us: the bone of our bone, the flesh of our flesh, the bodies you created, and the relationships you created us for. (let us observe a few moments of silence to breathe and reflect) WORDS OF FORGIVENESS You are the divine creation, and it is not right for you to be alone. Know now that you are forgiven and called back into relationship with God and with one another. THE PRAYER OF OUR SAVIOR (please say in the way most familiar to you) Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts [sins/trespasses], as we forgive our debtors [those who sin/trespass against us]. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. PASSING OF THE PEACE One: Children of God, the Peace of Christ be with you. All: And also with you. One: Let us share Christ s peace with one another. SONG OF PRAISE #35 Gloria Patri Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen. 10:00 LEARNING WITH OUR CHILDREN Following the message, preschoolers may leave for childcare. ANTHEM Notre Pere Maurice Durufle

SCRIPTURE READING Genesis 2:18-24 18 Then the Lord God said, It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him. 19 So the Lord God formed from the ground all the wild animals and all the birds of the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would call them, and the man chose a name for each one. 20 He gave names to all the livestock, all the birds of the sky, and all the wild animals. But still there was no helper just right for him. 21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. While the man slept, the Lord God took out one of the man s ribs and closed up the opening. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man. 23 At last! the man exclaimed. This one is bone from my bone, and flesh from my flesh! She will be called woman, because she was taken from man. 24 This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one. One: All: The Word of God, for the people of God. Thanks be to God!
