In the extended version of this weekend s Gospel reading, Jesus is at Gethsemane, praying to his Father, in much emotional distress. He knows he can save himself. He can escape over the Mount of Olives in the dead of night and make his way safely into the Judean desert. Instead, Jesus chooses obedience to his Father and waits for his persecutors. As Saint Paul puts it in the second reading, Jesus is obedient to the point of death. Jesus obedience is a lesson for those who are good stewards of their life in Christ. Let us reflect on how we might be more obedient to the will of God instead of our own will. Dear Parishioners, We now enter the last week of Lent, Holy Week. It is the one week of the year that we have three liturgies that occur only once a year: Liturgy, Mass of Thanksgiving on Thursday and the Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ on Friday. We have Communal Reconciliation at St. Charles on Monday evening, March 26 th, at 7:00pm. On Tuesday evening, Chrism Mass is at St. Mary Cathedral at 7:00pm. Anyone is invited to attend that Mass and I would encourage you to do so if you have never been to a Chrism Mass. The Liturgy is outstanding and the music is beautiful. The oils that are used throughout the coming year are blessed by Bishop Doherty and he will present some of those oils to both St. Charles and St. Patrick. At our Mass of Thanksgiving on Holy Thursday at St. Charles at 7:00pm I will present the oils to St. Charles and St. Patrick. On Thursday at 1:00pm we will have the Stations of the Cross at St. Charles. On Good Friday we will have the Stations of the Cross at St. Patrick at 11:00am and the Liturgy of the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ at St. Patrick at 6:00pm and at St. Charles at 8:00pm. On Saturday evening at 7:30pm we will have the Easter Vigil at St. Charles. I urge parishioners to attend the above services. You will be enriched spiritually by your participation in these liturgies. Have a Prayerful and Charitable Holy Week, Fr. Bob The Pontifical Good Friday Collection Our tithe on Good Friday will help support the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, which helps Christians in the Holy Land. Your support helps the church minister in parishes, provide Catholic schools and offer religious education. The Pontifical Good Friday Collection also helps to preserve the sacred shrines. The wars, unrest of crisis, the Pontifical Good Friday Collection provides humanitarian aid to refugees. When you contribute to the Pontifical Good Friday Collection, you become an instrument of peace and join with Catholics around the world in solidarity with the Church in the Holy Land. Thank you for your support. Pray for the Sick Let us pray for these sick: Virgil Schutter, Jack Allison, Kim Dahnke, Collette Lavelle, Ron Sondgerath, Amber Brost, Phillip Gobel, Janet Schutter, Dick Bowman, Mark Cochran, Jason Cole, Brian Lemenager, Staci Wittenauer, Betty Fassnacht, Mary Reed, Cort Wilson, Marlena Thomas, Sharon Eberle, Glenn Barnard, Cooper Gretencord, Mark McMaster, Donna Cooley, Lynn Stone, Charlie Senesac, Ray Muller, Sherman Bice and Darlene Bowers. Fast and Abstinence Good Friday is a day of fast and abstinence. On days of fast, one full meal is allowed for those between the ages of 18 and 59. On days of abstinence, no meat is allowed for those who are ages 14 and over. Notice Please remove all flowers and winter decorations in the cemetery by April 1 so we can prepare for the spring mowing season. Life Teen Just a reminder that Life Teen moves to St. Patrick s April 1. Denim and Diamonds Sacred Heart School will host the 4th Annual Denim & Diamonds Adult Prom on Saturday, April 7th. Doors open at 7 p.m., DJ from 8 p.m. - midnight. Tickets are $20 per person and may be purchased in the school office or at the door. Donation bar and snacks will be available. Adults 21 and older only. Any questions, please call the school at 884-0710. Lenten Penance Services All services begin at 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 26 St. Charles, Otterbein

Diocesan Scholarship Applications 2018 The Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana is sponsoring two scholarships for graduating seniors. Applications are due no later than April 20, 2018. Scholarship information will be available on the diocesan website. If you have any questions about the scholarship requirements, please call the Office of Catholic Schools at 765-269-4670. Invitation St. Patrick and St. Charles received an invitation to visit St. Mary-of-the-Woods. They were recently named a National Historic Landmark, and groups are visiting from all over the country. Groups watch a movie about Mother Theodore, tour inside and outside sacred spaces, see alpacas, go to Mass with the sisters, stay for lunch, and shop. It s a nice day. Would anyone be interested in going to St. Mary-of-the- Woods? If so, please call the parish office at 385-2587. Donations Needed The Community Food and Services Co-op is in ongoing need of your generous donations. The suggested item of donation for this month is PASTA ITEMS. You can place your donation in the boxes at the back of either St. Charles or St. Patrick s churches. Thank you for your support. For I was hungry and you fed me. Come Spend Some Time With Jesus in Adoration We all know our world is a mess. We all say, What can I do? You can pray and you do. But praying before the Blessed Sacrament is so powerful. It is so peaceful and calming to just sit with Jesus. Pray, read, listen, meditate. Come and spend some quiet time with Jesus and see what a difference it makes in your life. We can change things, one prayer at a time. There is Adoration every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 12 midnight in the Chapel in the Annex at Sacred Heart. Sign up for a set hour every week or just stop by. You will be blessed. For more information contact Debbie Barnard at (765) 299-6214. Holistic Prayer Journey To schedule a Healing Session call 884-0977. Please leave a message that includes your phone number for a return call. Holy Hour for America Mark your Calendar! The first Wednesday of every month there will be a Holy Hour for America with Rosary at 7 p.m. at the St. Elizabeth Chapel. Sponsored by the Legion of Mary.
