We are looking to do even more this coming year. I am so grateful for the work of Callie our youth minister, Adam our Director of Religious Education and Crystal Blahnik our great Principal. We are blessed to have such faithful individuals seeking to be ever greater disciples. The pictures from our middle school trip show some of our service work down in Hortonville. We had Mass each day in the morning, lots of service during the day and then faith building at night (find these in the pictures). With plenty of fun in between! I had my first shot at the GAGA pit a game that has you gently whacking a ball at your opponents legs inside what looks like a big pig stall. Very fun! Look for me in the priestly black in the sea of red. We ended the trip with a great stop at Zesty s. a little scoop of Heaven. Last week at Mass I encouraged persons to consider a smart phone app called Abide. It is a guide to ancient Christian prayer and meditation that I think is one of the best out there in the digital world to help persons pray. It is an audio meditation and is not read. It is based on the Ignatian practice of Lectio Divina, which when translated means: divine reading. It is the practice of reading scripture with an open heart and mind and allowing the Holy Spirit to lift from the scripture verses those words or ideas that he wishes to speak directly with you about. One reads, and then rereads the verse, and then maybe reads it again. Always being very open to what the Holy Spirit may be saying to you. The person who is praying moves with an attitude that is willing to stop, think, listen and pray. Totally open to wherever God may be taking the conversation. Always in union with Truths of our Faith. The app provides this intentional pause time with nice background nature sound or music. You may pause it at any time. The Abide app draws authors from the Christian family, Catholic and non-catholic. They all profess ancient classic orthodox Christianity that we profess each Sunday at Mass in the Nicene Creed, written by the ancient Church. Here is there description about who they are and what they believe: Abide is a community centered on Christ and embraces authors from across the Christian family. We believe that the Bible is true, and we profess the Nicene Creed as our statement of faith. We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen (you know the rest) I have listened to the app now for two months and have been moved by many of the reflections. I have found that the inspirations stay with me throughout the day. A person is free to choose the length of the prayer time, the when of the prayer time, and if one has a particular area of life needed to pursue there are a myriad of topics to choose from or you can simply take the reflections messaged to you each day. The app can send reminders each day and link you up with a mid-day prayer, or end of the day prayer. I highly encourage you to give the two-week trial a shot. The minimal fee of about twenty dollars a year to support the ministry thereafter is worth the cost, at least in my eyes. Why don t you try it, and let me know? Fr. Mark Vander Steeg
