There were 19 attendees. Pres. Barron had everyone to introduce themselves. Gay Blalock gave the invocation. Pres. Barron took up the minutes of the March meeting and asked Sect. Anderson to identify the correction that needed to be made. The 6 in the bank balance was omitted; the amount should have read $6907.34. Oma Gordon made a motion to adopt the minutes as corrected; Norman Stevenson seconded. The motion was approved by all present. President Greg Barron then moved into the executive reports. President Report: Pres. Barron reported: Heritage Day will be on May 5, 2012. One change to plans is that the art show normally held at the Kelly Law Offices will be in the library conference room this year. Mayor Ricky Stratton and the Liberty Chamber of Commerce requested that we share the room. Since the society want to concentrate on the LRSH and member exhibitions that will require only a portion of the library conference room, Pres. Barron agreed to the request. The field trip to New Orleans on Thursday, April 19 th to see the tall ships has been sold out. All society members that signed up have paid (Continued on page 2) 1

You may contact this editor at: Wayne B. Anderson, Sr. 1737 Bridgers Drive Raymond, MS 39154 Or by e-mail at sitemanager@achgs.org and will be able to attend. The bus will load behind the First Baptist Church at 6:45 am. No food will be allowed on the bus. The tour will go first to the tall ships, then to the Palace Restaurant (owned and operated by the Brennan Family), then to the Jackson Barracks. A vote will be taken on return as to whether the group will stop at Manchac for supper. In any event, the group should be back in McComb by 6:00 pm or so. For Heritage Day in 2013, Pres. Barron wants to have the theme People, Places and Scenes for Amite County. The plan will be to solicit pictures dating from 1960 back be loaned to the society for scanning and then have a subset of the more interesting and/or best images be displayed in the library conference room. Details will be worked out during the rest of this year so that work on the pictures can begin in early 2013. Pres. Barron complimented Sam King on the photo essay book on logging in Amite County that he had placed on a side table for review. Sam King indicated that a copy of the book will be donated to the society for inclusion in the LRSH library. Vice President Report: None Secretary Report: None Treasurer Report: Treasurer Gay Blalock presented reported that the society currently has a bank balance of $6347.48. Carolyn Dent made a motion to approved the Treasurer s report; Jan Villar seconded. The report was approved unanimously. LRSH COMMITTEE REPORT: Mrs. Vera Prestridge reported that five classes totaling 103 students visited the Little Red Schoolhouse on April 5. On Friday, April 27, a class of 62 reunion group will be visiting. For Heritage Day, she s planning to have the LRSH open from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm. Additional volunteers for assisting at the LRSH on Heritage Day are still needed. Pres. Barron interrupted the business meeting at this point to allow the program to be given. Sam King presented a slide show related to his somewhat intense research into his genealogy in the last few years. Following the program, the business meeting was resumed. Old Business: V.P. Dawn Taylor asked if any food would be needed for Heritage Day. Pres. Barron replied that it had been decided to not have food or drink this year. Mrs. Frances Phares announced that the latest genealogy book in the series she has been producing is now available for $10. This issue covers the physicians of Amite County. New Business: Dan Morgan reported that one of his old book acquisitions has a description of the original postal route through the area before statehood. Other Business: Carole Thomas asked if anyone had any information on the Wilkinson Family. No one responded to this question during the business meeting. Before adjourning, President Barron announced that the LRSH would be open Heritage Day beginning at 10:00 am.
