From Father Kirby We continue with the Lord on his southern journey to Jerusalem. Last week, he spoke about service and authority. Today, the Lord highlights the purity of belief and the innocence of vulnerable people. He exhorts us on how to treat our faith and avoid scandal. This lesson is important in any age, but especially in our own! It s a great joy to give the children of the parish a blessing in honor of the holy angels this weekend at all the es. Please note that this afternoon at 1:00 PM in the Knights Pavilion, we will have our annual Blessing of Animals in honor of Saint Francis of Assisi. All animals are welcome! As a follow up to our Parish Survey and to the Town Hall meetings, I d like to let the community know about some developments: Music. With the recent hiring of Myron Walker, our new Choirmaster, we ll be able to give more attention to our music program. Natalie Senglaub (our former Director of Sacred Music) will be meeting with Myron and Molly Rusciolelli, our Parish Organist, to discuss many of the points that were raised about our music program and will propose solutions for the future. Church Temperature. I know the temperature of the church building is concerning to some. Ryan Kiniry, our Director of Campus Facilities, has brought in experts to advise us on proper building temperature and ways of preserving a comfortable temperature with the activities, crowds, and body temperature that are the ways and means of the building. It s my hope to raise our current temperature in a way that will not adversely affect the overall and temperature of the building. I ask for your patience as we work through these efforts. I ll have more developments as we move along. In particular, we are working to adjust and prepare some of the Town Hall presentations for our parish website. I ll update the community as these become available. Please note that my Installation Ceremony as Pastor of Our Lady of Grace is on Tuesday, October 16. As a part of the celebration, David Vasquez of our parish is organizing a burse. Traditionally, a burse is a formal collection of financial gifts that s given to someone on special occasions. Dave is collecting the burse in an effort to pay off my remaining academic debt (about $27,000). Anyone who might want to assist with this burse can contact Dave at dvasquez@carolina.rr.com. I am humbled by this effort and grateful for this sentiment. This Friday is our monthly First Friday of the Sacred Heart in Reparation for the Sins of Humanity and this Saturday is our monthly Healing with the Anointing of the Sick. More updates next week. Let s pray for one another! Father Jeffrey Kirby Twitter/fatherkirby frkirby@gracewepray.org
