Peace Lutheran Church Third Sunday in Lent February 28, 2016 AS WE GATHER Welcome to Peace Lutheran Church a special welcome to our guests! Please take some time during worship to fill out the attendance/prayer card, located at the end of each pew. If you are a guest, we would love to receive contact information so we can respond to your visit with us today. WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS INVOCATION P: In the name of the Father, and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. PREPARATION GATHERING MUSIC My Redeemer Lives Reuben Morgan Trading My Sorrows Darrell Evans CONFESSION and FORGIVENESS P: May God our merciful Father hear our heartfelt confession of sins, so that we may be cleansed and not merely that, but given new hearts to truly love Him in a brand new way. All: Merciful God, we confess to you now that we have sinned. We confess the sins that no one knows and the sins that everyone knows. We confess the sins that are a burden to us and the sins that do not bother us because we have grown used to them. We confess our sins as a church. We have not forgiven one another as we have been forgiven. We have not given ourselves in love and service for the world as Christ gave Himself for us. Father, forgive us. Send the Holy Spirit to us, that He may give us power to live by Your mercy, as You have called us to live. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Silent Reflection P: For our sake God made Him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God (2 Corinthian 5:21). Because Jesus Christ conquered sin and death on the cross, your sin is forgiven. Through baptism He has made us His own. In Him we begin brand new every day, living in the glorious freedom of the children of God (Romans 8:21). 1
SHARING of PEACE SONG of PRAISE Days of Elijah Robin Mark As we sing the song of praise, please pass your attendance / prayer card to the ushers. If you are a first-time guest, please provide your contact information so that we can respond to your visit this week.) SERVICE OF THE WORD SCRIPTURE READINGS First Reading: Psalm 85 Page 584 (LP: 923) Epistle Reading: 1 Corinthians 10:1-13 Page 1134 (LP: 1782) Gospel Reading: Luke 13:1-9 Page 1032 (LP: 1619) MESSAGE SONG Salvation s Song Stuart Townend and Andrew Small MESSAGE Repent The Time Is Short THE CONFESSION OF OUR FAITH Pastor: Let us acknowledge our faith by the words of the Nicene Creed People: I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead; whose kingdom will have no end. And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. 2
SONG of RESPONSE / OFFERING You Are My All in All Dennis Jernigan (In response to His gracious, daily provision, as an act of adoration and praise, we joyfully give back a portion of what our Lord has entrusted to us. If you are a first time guest please do not feel obligated to contribute but you may do so as the Holy Spirit leads. May God bless every sacrifice we bring!) SERVICE of the SACRAMENT Regarding the Lord s Supper Peace Lutheran Church and the other congregations of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod share the Scriptural belief that the Lord s Supper is a sacramental meal that brings us not only Christ s true Body and Blood with the bread and wine, but also the forgiveness of sins and strength to amend our lives. Those intending to commune with us may find it spiritually helpful to consider these questions: 1. Am I sorry for my sins? 2. Do I believe in Jesus Christ as my Savior? 3. Do I believe He makes His Body and Blood present in this Meal? 4. Am I determined, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to change my sinful life? WORDS of INSTITUTION DISTRIBUTION (For the distribution, the ushers will guide worshippers to the front. The pastor will offer a brief blessing for each table. A longer blessing for all communicants will be spoken after all have received communion.) DISTRIBUTION SONGS SPECIAL MUSIC Tricia Bowers on violin Made Me Glad Tenderly Miriam Webster Shannon J.
