It has a more contemporary tone and an exciting accompaniment. Some will find it familiar since the setting was sung about 10 years ago. Please try to come to Mass 10 minutes earlier. We will learn or refresh the Mass parts in the next 2 weeks.

PASTOR S DESK GRAND ANNUAL APPEAL We are still in the season of our Grand Annual Appeal and there are a number of folks out there who we have not heard from. Please make a contribution to this critical fundraiser so that we can continue to fund programs and services and maintain the parish buildings and grounds. You can make a difference with a substantial contribution. Thank you and a special thanks to all who have given already. MASS FOR PRAYER AND PENANCE All Masses on the weekend of February 3rd/4 th will be offered for Prayer and Penance at the request of Cardinal Sean. His request is in response to a call from Pope Francis for bishops conferences across the world to have a day of Prayer and Penance in recognition of harm done by clergy sexual abuse within the church. It will be an opportunity to seek repentance for the sins of the church, to pray for all those who were abused, their families, our church community and the community at large. MINISTRY FAIR One of the wonderful things I have seen at OLOS since my arrival last June is the committed involvement of so many of our parishioners. I have come to the conclusion that this involvement is an important reason why the parish came out of the turmoil of the past a healthy community of faith. Praise God! Next Sunday, January 28 at the coffee hour after the 8:45am and before the 11:00 am Masses, members involved in the various parish ministries, (committees, commissions, service at the altar etc.) will be available in O Connell Hall. You will have an opportunity to find a place where you can volunteer your talent and time. In most cases, the amount of time is reasonable and won t interfere with the other demands of your busy lives. During the January 27/28 weekend, we will also make available in Church forms that you can use to indicate your interest. If you wish, someone will contact you with more information. So, please give it some thought. Remaining a vibrant and faith filled community depends of course, on God s grace and favor but also in no small part on the commitment of our volunteers. Please consider joining them. ST ANTHONY OF EGYPT Wednesday (1/17) of this past week was the feast of St Anthony of Egypt. It s not St Anthony of Padua who you pray to when something is lost. Anthony of Egypt gave up considerable wealth at a young age to lead the life of a hermit in the Egyptian desert. He is called the Patriarch of Monks. Anthony was born in 251 and died one hundred and five years later in 356. Long before organic food and healthy living plans of every variety, the hermit s life in this case speaks for itself. ~Fr. Frank Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

Sharon, MA Weekly Collection The average cost to run the parish is $9,800 per week. Our expectation is that 70% or $7,100 will come from the weekly offertory. Parishioners contributed $6,592 for the week ending January 21st. Your Annual Donation Statements will be mailed out by the end of January. OLOS ANNUAL"SOUPER BOWL WEEKEND February 3rs & 4th, 2018 The Christian Services Commission (CSC) will host the annual OLOS Souper Bowl Sunday soup collection on the weekend of the Super Bowl - February 3 & 4. Please join in the fun by bringing cans of soup to donate at the Masses on February 3 & 4. We will have baskets in the entry way and in the area where the Giving Tree is placed. This soup collection is for the Ilse Marks Food Pantry that serves Sharon and Stoughton residents. The volunteers at the food pantry are always so grateful for the ongoing weekly support our parish provides and this extra collection will be even more welcome as it comes in the bitter cold winter weather. Thank you! St. Andrew Dinner All High School Age Young Men Invited January 30th ~ St John Seminary, Brighton ~ 6 to 8 PM The Vocation Office invites you to join us for an evening of prayer, food, and conversation. Child Care Needed Does anyone offer child care in their home, or is there another family (or families) looking for child care who would be interested in sharing the cost of a nanny? If so, please be in touch with the parish office, and we ll connect you with the inquiring parishioner. Grand Annual Campaign This campaign helps us balance our budget and meet some of the needs that inevitably arise with buildings in general and older buildings in particular. Our Lady of Sorrows Parish is indeed an important presence in the community and we give witness to our faith in so many ways. Please do your part to continue that tradition by pledging a generous amount to the Grand Annual Campaign. Thank you for your generous giving.

Ever wonder why we have stained glass windows and statues in our church? Do you know people who stopped going to Mass because they thought it was boring? Would you like to have a deeper understanding of the mysteries of the Mass? Do you go to Mass week after week but still feel like you don t always get it? Please join us for a Special TEACHING MASS for Youth Sunday, January 28th, 5:00 p.m. Everything from what the priest wears and does, to the words he says and the postures we assume, will be explored to bring a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Mass. Fr. Matt is the Chaplain of the Office of Lifelong Faith Formation and at the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Voyage in Boston. He is full of energy and enthusiasm and brings out the joy of the Mass while demonstrating a deep respect for its powerful truths. All are welcome! Invite your friends and family! Sharon, MA From Senior Deacon Mike Our Lady of Sorrows Parish On this, the third Sunday in Ordinary Time, we turn to the beginning of the Gospel of Mark and hear Jesus call out to the fishermen the invitation to leave their work and follow him. These brothers, Peter and Andrew, immediately left their boat and friends and followed Jesus. In turn, James and John did likewise. The reaction of these four men, without seeming hesitation, was dramatic. Their lives would be changed forever. And, similarly, the neighboring towns and villages would change just as dramatically.
