The May 2018 Fairview United Methodist Church Maryville, Tennessee May 13, - May 19, 2018 From the Pastor s Desk If you were here for Heritage Sunday, I know you join me in expressing gratitude to the volunteer team who did an amazing job inside and outside. We were blessed with beautiful weather, and all the post worship activities generated much excitement. On behalf of our church family, I want to say Thank You to everyone who volunteered to make the day a great success. If you couldn t attend but worshipped online, then you know worship was amazing on Sunday, but of course, it always is. So many musical gifts were brought together from our Fairview-Remedy family. There were over 100 voices in the choir, plus all of our orchestra and band instruments. I stood at the front worshipping, thanking God for how blessed I am to be able to worship in a setting like ours and to experience so many talented individuals, volunteers and staff, who faithfully discern the different pieces of our weekly experience that lead us into the presence of the Lord. To all who lead us in worship, Thank You. On Sunday we broke ground on a new sermon series: Unstoppable. There are only three messages in this series. Unstoppable Mission: we help people follow Jesus. This week is Unstoppable Together: God wants us united, the devil wants us divided. On May 20 (Pentecost Sunday - so make a note to wear red that day), Unstoppable People. After such a memorable experience on Sunday, I want to encourage you to be present this week in one of our three worship services. Your presence matters greatly as you lift your voice to worship, to sing to the Lord. I know God will be here waiting to receive your praise, and I will be here eager to join you. Remember what I told you on Sunday, The Church is the people, without people there can be no church. And I will say it again; God has given the Church to help people follow Jesus! With my love and prayers, Pastor Mickey Church Council News On Sunday, April 29 th the church council voted to endorse a recommendation from the Trustees concerning the use of our facilities by Family Promise. The recommendation was that only married, heterosexual couples would be allowed to sleep in the same room when Family Promise is utilizing our facilities. The next church council meeting is scheduled for May 20 th if necessary.
