1. The Power of Almighty God A. Cloud and Fire at the Mountain B. Manna and Quails C. Water out of a Rock D. Bitter Water made Sweet E. A Cloud and Fire Pillar F. Victory in Battles G. Now the Promised Land
2. The Presence of God Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. Moses could not enter the tent of meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. In all the travels of the Israelites, whenever the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, they would set out Exodus 40:4, 35 36
3. The Words of God The Lord spoke to Moses, saying: Speak to the Israelite and say to them
4. Be Fearless! For in you I can charge an army, and by my God I can scale a wall. As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him Psalm 18:29 30
The Reality Numbers 11: Complaining in the Desert Numbers 14: The People Rebel That night all the members of the community raised their voices and wept aloud. All the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and the whole assembly said to them, If only we had died in Egypt! Or in this wilderness! Why is the LORD bringing us to this land only to let us fall by the sword? Our wives and children will be taken as plunder. Wouldn t it be better for us to go back to Egypt? And they said to each other, We should choose a leader and go back to Egypt. vs. 1 4
2 to 8 Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it. But the men who had gone up with him said, We can t attack those people; they are stronger than we are. And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size. Numbers 13:30 32
Rebellion If the LORD is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us. Only do not rebel against the LORD. And do not be afraid of the people of the land, because we will devour them. Their protection is gone, but the LORD is with us. Do not be afraid of them. But the whole assembly talked about stoning them. Numbers 14:8 10
Why Be Like This? 1. Our nature 2. Our blindness to His provision 3. Our unfair judgment of God 4. Shunning His Word 5. Unbelief 6. Life
The Gospel The LORD said to Moses, How long will these people treat me with contempt? How long will they refuse to believe in me, in spite of all the signs I have performed among them? I will strike them down with a plague and destroy them, but I will make you into a nation greater and stronger than they. Moses said to the LORD, Then the Egyptians will hear about it! By your power you brought these people up from among them. Numbers 14:11 13
The Plea Now may the Lord s strength be displayed, just as you have declared: The LORD is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation. In accordance with your great love, forgive the sin of these people, just as you have pardoned them from the time they left Egypt until now. Numbers 14:17 19
Forgiveness The LORD replied, I have forgiven them, as you asked. Nevertheless, as surely as I live and as surely as the glory of the LORD fills the whole earth, not one of those who saw my glory and the signs I performed in Egypt and in the wilderness but who disobeyed me and tested me ten times not one of them will ever see the land I promised on oath to their ancestors. No one who has treated me with contempt will ever see it. Numbers 14:20 23
Consequences A Family Affair For forty years one year for each of the forty days you explored the land you will suffer for your sins and know what it is like to have me against you. vs. 34
God Still at Work It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. Jesus is the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone. Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved. Acts 4:10-12
