April 2017 G lo r if y in g G o d b y R e a c h in g, B u i ld in g, S e r v in g From Randy... Simon of Cyrene. Salome. Two Thieves. Mary of Nazareth. Nicodemus. Mary Magdalene. The Centurion. In April we continue our sermon series on People At The Cross. We want to examine the impact the Cross had on the lives of those who stood and watched first hand the words we read in Mark s Gospel, And they crucified him. Were you there when they crucified my Lord sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble (from Were You There ). The Cross had an impact on those who were there. As we journey together as a church may the Cross have a spiritual impact on us. Our sermon series will conclude with a musical drama, The Choice, which will take us into the life of the Roman Centurion who stood at the Cross and said, Surely this man was the Son of God! In an effort to allow our community and friends to experience this musical drama, our choir will present this on Saturday and Sunday of April 22 and 23. Congratulations to our Wednesday night Chili Cook-off participants and winners. At the time of this writing, some 14 chili experts have signed up to bring chili. It will be a fun time. It will be a good eatin time. And yes, it will be a competitive time. But all who are making chili and certainly all who will eat chili will be WINNERS! Special shout out to Phil Lehman for making our first place Golden Chili Spoons and bases. Phil, you are a WINNER too! Speaking of cooking don t forget that our Deacons prepare a delicious breakfast after our sunrise service on Easter morning. Set the alarm. Enjoy the freshness of the early morning. Eat a good breakfast. And enjoy a time of fellowship around the table. Then go home and wake up the rest of the family LOL. He is risen. He is risen indeed! And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. Our Hats -- His Crown: Theme of Shiloh s Sixth Annual Women s Tea R ev. Jennifer C. Mullins, currently Associate Pastor of Youth at New Highland Baptist Church in Mechanicsville, spoke at Shiloh s tea, March 25, in the Family Life Center. Her speech was based on James 1:12. Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him. Rev. Mullins recounted several events in Biblical times, along with her own experiences, where loss, disappointment, or other issues take over your life. She said God addressed the issues she experienced through song, prayer, an email, or even words from a stranger. She told her audience God teaches us perseverance and what faith can do. She said: Faith is having hope even when your sky is falling. She encouraged us to focus on Christ, who wrote our future, no matter what hat we re wearing.

Youth Group Area 51 By Cathy Lyon & Stephen Hagewood The youth had a great time at Planet Wisdom learning how to better handle their fears, and are looking forward to next year. On Sunday nights, the youth meet for our Creative Ministries Team. We currently have drama or music available. If your teen (6th grade and up) would like to learn to express worship in this way, please join us. There are opportunities to serve beyond being on stage - lots of "behind the scenes" help is always a need. The drama team is currently rehearsing for the Easter Eggstravaganza on April 15. We will be telling the Easter story through drama. Stop them in the hall one Sunday and ask our Bible Scholars to recite them. We want to extend a thank you to Shiloh for supporting this wonderful program for our children. We would like to invite everyone to our Awards Ceremony and Grand Prix on April 30 @ 4 pm for a time of fellowship and congratulations for the diligent effort of the Awana children. New Bible/Book Study for women begins Sunday, April 23 @ 4:15pm in room 201. She s Got Issues: Seriously Good News for Stressed Out, Secretly Scared Control Freaks Like Us is a book that reminds us that when we are completely stressed out we have access to the power of Christ a power that can transform our everyday weaknesses into our greatest strengths and gifts. Children s Ministry By Rebecca Goff The Easter Eggstravaganza will be on Saturday April 15 from 10-12. We are changing up the event a little this year, but one thing that won t change is that we will still have lots of candy! Lunch will be provided to help balance out the sugar rush! Most importantly we will remember why we celebrate Easter and the love through sacrifice Jesus showed for each one of us. This is open to all so invite your friends and family. Volunteers are needed so if you are available, please let me know. If you can donate candy, please make sure the candy is individually wrapped and will fit into a plastic egg. By request Anything With Wheels Day but without motors is returning so be watching the bulletin for details. VBS is around the corner so please be in prayer about how you may serve during this exciting time.
