Call to Worship: Genesis 12:1 3; Romans 4:3, 13 The Lord said to Abraham and Sarah: Go forth, and I will make of you a great nation. They had faith in the promises of God. So the Lord says to us, this day: I will bless you, and you will be a blessing. We will trust in the promises of God. *Hymn: #51 "To Abraham and Sarah" *Prayer of Adoration *The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. Call to Confession
Prayer of Confession God of great mercy, we confess that we have sinned against you. We bless what we should curse and curse what we should bless. We trust our own righteousness and forget your gift of grace. Forgive us, by your steadfast love. Create a clean heart within us, teach us your holy way, and restore the joy of salvation; through Jesus Christ our Lord. (silent prayers) Assurance of Pardon *Sung Response: #834, verse 1 Precious Lord, take my hand; lead me on, help me stand; I am tired, I am weak, I am worn. Through the storm, through the night, lead me on to the light; take my hand, precious Lord, lead me home.
Prayer for Illumination PROCLAIM GOD S WORD Gospel Lesson: John 3:1-17 Page: NT 93 Anthem: "Calvary" Larkin The Choir Were you there when they crucified my Lord? Sometimes it causes me to tremble. Were you there when they crucified my Lord? When I survey the wondrous cross on which the Prince of Glory died, my richest gain I count but loss, and pour contempt on all my pride. See from His side, His hands, His feet, sorrow and love flow mingled down; did e're such love and sorrow meet, or thorns compose so rich a crown? Were you there when they crucified my Lord? A Scripture Conversation Old Testament Lesson: Genesis 12:1-4a Page: OT 10 Epistle Lesson: Romans 4:1-5 Page: NT 155 Sermon: "Jesus Walks, We Walk" *Hymn: #835 "Just a Closer Walk with Thee"
*An Affirmation of Faith: A Declaration of Faith 3.1, 5.3-4 God chose one people for the sake of all. To the world in its rebellion and alienation God promised blessing and restoration. The Lord chose Abraham and his descendants as bearers of that promise for all peoples. They had done nothing more than others to deserve the Lord's favor, but God loved them and made them God's own. It is not our faith but God's grace in Jesus Christ that justifies us and reconciles us to God. Yet it is only by faith that we accept God's grace and live by it. We believe the Holy Spirit works today whenever believers grow toward maturity in Christ. As long as we live we struggle with sin, but the Spirit's presence assures us God will complete what God has begun in us. Human Trafficking Seminar and Brunch - March 23 Some issues seem too terrible to even acknowledge, but as part of our Lenten disciplines, we will gather for a 11:45 am brunch on March 23 after worship to consider the worldwide problem of human trafficking and its possible solutions. We will be led by Amanda Grant, of the Samaritan Women, a ministry for people caught in the web of human trafficking. She will: Define the issue and its scope, Explain what it looks like in our area, Profile Traffickers, Buyers, and Victims, and Explain The Samaritan Women and what they do to combat this issue and care for survivors There will be materials available about our own denomination's involvement in this ministry, as well as plenty of time for questions and answers. The Seminar will be preceded by a pot-luck brunch at 11:45 am. Sign up in the Fellowship Hall by March 21 to indicate your attendance and what you'll be bringing.
