GATHERING From the waters of death you raise us with him in baptism and renew your gift of life within us. O Christ, you are glorified by angels in heaven, and worshiped on earth. Christ is risen! Alleluia! He is risen indeed! Alleluia! PRELUDE Amanda Davis, Soloist Easter Rise heart; thy Lord is risen. Sing his praise without delayes, who takes thee by the hand, that thou likewise with him may st rise; that, as his death calcined thee to dust, His life may make thee gold, and much more, just. Awake, my lute, and struggle for they part with all thy art. The crosse taught all wood to resound his name, who bore the same. His stretched sinews taught all strings, what key is the best to celebrate this most high day. Consort both heart and lute, and twist a song pleasant and long; or since all musick is but three parts vied and multiplied. O let thy blessed Spirit bear a part, And make up our defects with his sweet art. I Got Me Flowers I got me flowers to strew thy way; I got me boughs off many a tree: But thou wast up by break of day, And brought'st thy sweets along with thee. The Sunne arising in the East. Though he give light, and th'east perfume; if they should offer to contest With thy arising, they presume. Can there be any day but this, Though many sunnes to shine endeavour? We count three hundred, but we misse: There is but one, and that one ever. Michael Shuman, Soloist Love bade me welcome: yet my soul drew back. Guiltie of dust and sinne. But quick-ey'd Love, observing me grow slack From my first entrance in, drew nearer to me, sweetly questioning If I lack'd anything. a guest, I answer'd, worthy to be here: Love said, You shall be he. I the unkinde, ungrateful? Ah, my deare, I cannot look on thee. Love took my hand, and smiling did reply, Who made the eyes but I? Truth Lord, but I have marr'd them: let my shame go where it doth deserve. And know you not, sayes Love, who bore the blame? My deare, then I will serve. You must sit down, sayes Love, and taste my meat: So I did sit and eat. THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD S PRAYER Caleb Cox and Olivia McClung God in your grace... You hear our prayers. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. Jacob and Brianne Christiansen *HYMN Were You There O! Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble. SENDING *HYMN 238 Thine Is The Glory *EASTER BENEDICTION EASTER INVOCATION Eleanor Eichmann Hear the words of the risen Christ: Do not be afraid, I am the first and the last, and the living One! I was dead, and see, I am alive forever and ever, and I have the keys of death and hell. Women: God of glory, on this Easter Day, fill your church with the power of Christ s resurrection! Men: Lord Christ, you have trampled down death by death and given life to those in the grave! Women: Holy Spirit, unite us to Christ in the bond of love, that we may abide in him as he abides in us! All: As you have loved us, may we love you. May we abide in your love! *HYMN 232 *EASTER ACCLAMATION Jesus Christ is Risen Today Diane Warren O Christ, in your resurrection, the heavens and earth rejoice. Alleluia! By your resurrection you broke open the gates of hell, and destroyed sin and death. Alleluia! God of mercy, we no longer look for Jesus among the dead, for he is alive and has become the Lord of life. G.F. Handel Hallelujah from Messiah (Anyone wishing to sing the Hallelujah Chorus is invited to join the choir in the Chancel area.) POSTLUDE Miho Oda Sakon - violin Richard Campbell - cello Christ the Lord is Risen Today MUSICIANS Sarah Bryant - violin Jeannie Lee - piano Arr. James Mansfield Andrew Thompson - viola Each of the choral songs are movements from Ralph Vaughan Williams Five Mystical Songs. The texts are by George Herbert. Written originally for baritone soloist, orchestra, and choir, Vaughan Williams quickly arranged a piano version and later, a piano quintet (piano and string quartet) version for soloist and optional choir.

On this glorious feast of your resurrection, we offer up the sacrifice of praise to God, the fruit of lips that confess your name. Holy Spirit Keith and Kristyn Getty Holy Spirit, living Breath of God, breathe new life into my willing soul; Bring the presence of the Risen Lord, to renew my heart and make me whole. Cause Your Word to come alive in me; give me faith for what I cannot see. Give me passion for Your purity; Holy Spirit breathe new life in me. (Used with permission CCLI# 2834670) WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS (Please sign the Friendship Pad and pass it to others in your pew.) Rev. Jan Butin *PASSING OF THE PEACE The peace of Christ be with you! And also with you! CHILDREN S SONG 2233 Where Children Belong This, this is where children belong, welcomed as part of the worshiping throng. Water, God s Word, bread and cup, prayer and song, this is where children belong. TIME WITH CHILDREN Sing the Faith Kristi Button ANTHEM Come, my Way, my Truth, my Life: The Call Such a Way, as gives us breath: Such a Truth, as ends all strife: Such a Life, as killeth death. Come, my Light, my Feast, my Strength: Such a Light, as shows a feast: Such a Feast, as mends in length: Such a Strength, as makes his guest. Come, my Joy, my Love, my Heart: Such a Joy, as none can move: Such a Love, as none can part: Such a Heart, as joyes in love. PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION SCRIPTURE READING John 15:1-11 15 I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinegrower. 2 He removes every branch in me that bears no fruit. Every branch that bears fruit he prunes to make it bear more fruit. 3 You have already been cleansed by the word that I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in me as I abide in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in me. 5 I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing. 6 Whoever does not abide in me is thrown away like a branch and withers; such branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. 7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples. 9 As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. 10 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father s commandments and abide in his love. 11 I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete.

SERMON Apart From Me, You Can Do Nothing Rev. Phil Butin RESPONSE TO THE WORD *EASTER AFFIRMATION OF FAITH This is the good news which we have received, in which we stand, and by which we are saved, if we hold it fast: that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day, and that he appeared first to the women, then to Peter, and to the Twelve, and then to many faithful witnesses. We believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. Jesus Christ is the first and the last, the beginning and the end; he is our Lord and our God. Amen. PRESENTATION OF TITHES AND OFFERINGS OFFERTORY Antiphon The heavens are not too high, His praise may thither flie; the earth is not too low, His praises there may grow. The Church with psalms must shout, No doore can keep them out; but above all, the heart Must bear the longest part. 240 Alleluia, Alleluia! Give Thanks Refrain Alleluia, alleluia, give thanks to the risen Lord. Alleluia, alleluia, give praise to his name. Jesus is Lord of all the earth; He is the King of creation. Refrain Spread the good news o er all the earth: Jesus has died and has risen. Refrain INVITATION TO THE LORD S TABLE THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION GREAT PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. It is truly right and our greatest joy...... joining our voices with the faithful of every time and place, singing: (Hymn 559) Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest, hosanna in the highest! You are holy... Great is the mystery of faith: (Hymn 560) Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again. (repeat once) Gracious God, pour out your Holy Spirit upon us... now and forever. (Hymn 561) Amen, amen, amen. Rev. Jan Butin BREAKING OF THE BREAD AND SHARING OF THE CUP
