Our principal at the time carved a pumpkin right there in the church and shared the devotion below with us. After watching the carving and cleaning of the pumpkin, we stepped up to the rail, and he asked the students if any of them knew a Bible verse about light. Each of the older students shared a verse! Then we prayed together. I am not sure why that memory has stuck with me so clearly. It may be because I enjoy the pumpkin and the fall decorations or it may be that I was so amazed that all those kids knew a Bible verse off the top of their heads about light. Growing up a public school student, I hold a special place in my heart for the time spent in Chapel and the wonder of memorized Bible verses! How Christians are like Pumpkins First God picks you from the pumpkin patch and brings you in from the field. The Bible says we are in the world, but not of the world. He then washes all the dirt off of the outside. He carefully removes all the yucky stuff called sin from the inside. Look! Yuk! He changes us from the inside out by the power of the Word. That s why it is so important to go to church and hear God s Word. He carefully removes all the seeds of doubt, hate, greed, and fear. He replaces them with seeds of faith, hope and love. Then He carves a new smiling face. We are changed by His presence in our lives. We become grateful and even show it on our face!
Mrs. Klauer s Corner continued... Now we place a candle on the inside. This pumpkin now reflects light from the inside out. So too, when Jesus, who is calle the Light of the World, lives inside of us, He shines through us for all to see. Let your light shine before men that they ma see your good works an d glorify your Father, who is in heaven. Matt. 5:16 When you see a pumpkin this fall, remember: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 1 Cor. 5:17 Blessings! The rolls will be 4 for $10 or $3 each and you can preorder rolls if you would like. We will send order forms home with the kids in the next couple weeks. A note from Kelly Shaw: You have an opportunity to save some money on tuition! October 29th-Nov 1st, I will be out of the kitchen. We are looking for an individual(s) to help that week. You can save $25.00 each day you work on your tuition or put the time towards your volunteer hours. The easy part, there is no cooking!!! Monday will be Subway day and you just sort subs! Tuesday is pizza day and we would need someone to pick up the pizzas and serve them. Wednesday will be cereal bar and Thursday will be Subway day again. We will not have the salad bar open that entire week. The kids will get to choose from different fruits, juices and carrots to go with their entree. We just need someone to serve the food! No dishes either! We will be using disposable items that week! If you can t do it, maybe ask a relative to do it for you to still save some money on tuition or to put towards your volunteer hours. Also, if you are looking for volunteer hours any time of the year, I could always use help on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 11:30-1:30 serving food and cleaning. With two of us it might not even take that long! Sign up for these kitchen opportunities are in the LINKS section on Fast Direct. Thank you!
