And Allah is full of Kindness to (His) slaves. [Surah 2: Verse 207] Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following Islamic Monotheism and doing good deeds). [Surah 91: Verse 9] Verily, Allah has purchased of the believers their lives and their properties; for the price that theirs shall be the Paradise. They fight in Allah s Cause, so they kill (others) and are killed. It is a promise in truth which is binding on Him in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel) and the Quran. And who is truer to his covenant than Allah? Then rejoice in the bargain which you have concluded. That is the supreme success. [Surah 9: Verse 111] If you remember Allah swt, HE will remember you. If you repent daily, Allah swt will forgive you inshallah of your sins. Dhikhr of Istighfar will change your life. FEATURED ARTICLE Cleanliness of the Masjid by Zainab Habib As for the entrance area of the musallah, despite having shoe racks, we leave our shoes in total disorder right at the entrance, creating the worst possible safety hazard. If one person were to fall over the shoes, the rest of the people behind them will also fall. Our excuse is that prayer had started so we needed to make a dash into the musallah, although our Prophet (s.a.w) said: When the words of Iqama are pronounced, do not come to (prayer) running, but go with tranquility, and pray what you are in time for, and com- 3 plete (what you have missed) for when one of you is preparing for prayer he is in fact engaged in prayer. (Sahih Muslim) The brochures and newsletters start off in a very neat arrangement at the beginning of the day and by afternoon they are in total disarray. If we rest our hands on the rack when we lean down to get our shoes we can perhaps take a little time to tidy them up. The state of the bathrooms it is enough to destroy the Muslim community s reputation, should a non-muslim visit. Clogged toilets, water on the toilet seats and on the floor, bins overflowing with toilet paper and toilet seat paper-covers. Even the sink area has water all over, despite wipers being around. And then there s the tissue paper lying around. Why, O why do we always rely on others to clean up after us? It s MY masjid and It s MY Community Association! said the youngster who had greeted me with a smile and a salaam when I had praised him for picking up the paper tissue somebody had thrown in the corridor, so close to the waste bin. Wouldn t I do it if this was my house? If I m not part of the solution, I m part of the problem! And a masjid is Allah s house, so all the more reason to keep it clean and tidy. I was amazed by this youngster s sense of responsibility. And I loved his Pride of Ownership. Yes, that s the term for a simple concept our religion taught us more than 1400 years ago. It s MY masjid. If every member of the community felt this pride of ownership, the sky is the limit! Yet, a for us, we eat and drink in the musallah, not bothered if we drop a few crumbs or tissues here and there in the place where people humbly put their foreheads on the ground in an act of total submission to the Almighty. We take out the Qurans from the shelves and put them back in a disorderly manner. We take out the chairs from the stack and leave them lying around. All these thoughts just raced through my mind as the youngster smiled at me and said: You re somewhere else, aren t you Aunty? Yes I am, I said. If only every Muslim had the same sense of responsibility as you! But why shouldn t we be responsible people? he said. Our beloved Prophet s (s.a.w) training on taharah includes our surroundings. The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: A person while walking along the path saw the branches of a tree lying there. He said: By Allah, I shall remove these from this so that these may not do harm to the Muslims, and he was admitted to Paradise. (Sahih Muslim) Mashallah! I said, This hadith is so powerful and yet we never think of leaving a place better than we found it. He continued.. When it comes to masjid cleanliness I am so reminded of the story of the woman who used to clean the mosque. The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) asked about her, and he was told that she had died. He said to them, Why didn t you inform me of her death? It seems that people regarded her as an insignificant person. The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: Show me her grave. They showed him her grave and he offered the funeral prayer for her. Isn t such an honor amazing? By this time I was totally blown away by this youngster s mind-set. Our ummah needed more like him. And the words of our beloved Prophet (saw) echoed in my mind: Do not consider any act of goodness as being insignificant even if it is meeting your brother with a cheerful face. (Sahih Muslim.) and None of you believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself. (Tirmidhi hadith) And yes, I thought, every member of the ummah of our Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) has the potential to become like him, if we live consciously with our conscience alive and always remind ourselves that indeed Allah is Ever-watchful over us.
