ABOUT MARGARET LACKEY Margare Lackey grew up doing wha mos girls her age did. She played games, wen o school, and did chores a home. She aended Hillman College in Clinon, where she sudied o be a eacher, and laer augh for many years. Miss Lackey liked learning abou missions. She augh young children in her church o love missions. She also enjoyed wriing poems and mission sudy books. In 1912, Margare Lackey was hired as he firs paid leader of Mississippi Woman s Missionary Union. ln 1903, a special day was chosen as he ime o remember sae missions each year. On ha day,women would learn abou missions needs in Mississippi. Today, we call his special ime during he monh of Sepember, he Season of Prayer for Mississippi Bapis Sae Missions. Miss Lackey reired as corresponding secreary of Mississippi WMU in 1930. Five years laer, he offering was named in her honor as he Margare Lackey Sae Mission Offering. The offering has grown in ways of which Miss Lackey would approve. The firs sae mission offering received in 1903 was $294.38. In 2017, more han $2.1 million was given o he Margare Lackey Offering for Sae Missions. The offering has expanded in is oureach, funding minisries in our own backyard as well as sending Mississippians hrough he world o share Chris wih hose ha have never heard. The offering susains minisries such as church planing, children s camps, and voluneer missionary mobilizaion. The offering rains and mobilizes voluneers in disaser relief, criminal jusice, lieracy, and inernaional oureach. The offering works hand-in hand wih he evangelisic and benevolen minisries funded hrough he Cooperaive Program. MISSION VOLUNTEERS Afer seeking where Libery Bapis Church could be a par of God s plan o ake he Gospel o he world, our church recenly began a connecion wih a people group in Wes Africa, an area less han 5% Chrisian, wice he size of Mississippi, wih a populaion four imes ha of our sae. On our firs journey o he area, we were profoundly impaced by he level of spiriual darkness bu very surprised a he openness of he people o lisen. While walking hrough a village marke, we were able o share our esimony wih many people, including he elders. We were also able o share he good news wih young people in wo universiies. This experience has changed our lives. We now have names and faces of he people group for which we are praying. Our plan is o send wo small eams a year o serve alongside he long-erm workers for he nex hree o five years o help hem share he Gospel where he workers ruly are few. In fac, Garaywa is he very place where my love for missions was born. My firs encouner a Garaywa was when I was wo years old. As we dropped my older sisers a Garaywa, I longingly waied for my chance o spend a week a camp. Finally my opporuniy came! Camp was jus as awesome as hey said. The pool really was Olympic-sized. They really did sing Jesus Loves Me Garaywa syle. However, one of he highlighs of he week was meeing missionaries who had raveled all over he world. I remember hearing he sory of hose who read he Bible from righ o lef as well as he sory of a woman ha read he enire Bible in wo weeks! Wihou Garaywa and he Mississippi Bapis Convenion, my life would be compleely differen. As a resul of he Margare Lackey Sae Missions Offering, I was able o spend ime a Garaywa and discover a zeal for spreading God s love around he world. $405,000 wih Mikayla Giles GA Camp Saff Garaywa Camp and Conference Cener provided missional raining and inspiraion for more han 7,900 persons las year. COMMUNITY MINISTRY wih Jerry Lewis Suden and Family Pasor, Firs Bapis Church, Lake The Margare Lackey Sae Missions Offering has been an inegral resource for our couny and our effors o promoe he Gospel. Every year we pu hose resources o work in minisering and eaching sudens from all over our couny in a couny-wide Disciple Now. This year here were over 300 paricipans and more han 25 decisions. The funds from he Margare Lackey Sae Missions Offering help us o bring in speakers and musicians. This money goes a long way o help keep coss down, which in urn provides more opporuniies for sudens o aend. The Gospel is shared and lives are eernally changed. We are graeful and privileged o receive hese funds, knowing ha we are making a kingdom difference. CHURCH MULTIPLICATION Mrs. Barbara is a core eam member of he church plan, Mercy Hill Church. As a widow, he Lord promped her o downsize and pu her house on he marke. Abou he same ime, he Lord brough me o The Poin o sar he planing process. Mrs. Barbara came o our firs meeing and old me ha if he Lord sold her house she would be glad o join Mercy Hill since her new home was nearby. She also old me of her desire o see her family come o know he Lord. By God s providence, Mrs. Barbara s house sold before i hi he marke and she also was able o winess he conversion and bapism of her grandson-in-law. By faih, Mrs. Barbara answered he call o move, God provided he means, and now God is growing frui from her faihfulness. As her pasor, I hank God for Mrs. Barbara s brigh, joyous face; her phone calls of encouragemen; and her coninued pursui of holiness. I am challenged by her hear o reach her family wih he Gospel. CRIMINAL JUSTICE MINISTRY wih Chaplain Eugene Wigelsworh Mississippi Deparmen of Correcions The Mississippi Bapis evangelisic hrus Tell Me Tell Someone came o many Mississippi Deparmen of Correcions faciliies in 2017. Led by Dr. Jim Fural, eams of minisers brough he Good News and reminded offenders of he grace of Almighy God. Those who confessed o being saved by grace were encouraged o share heir esimonies, pray for ohers, and spread his same Good News! LANGUAGE/DEAF MINISTRY wih Maria Teel Sae Lieracy Missions Liaison Can you ake me o a Chrisian funeral? Tha quesion was asked by a Japanese woman who had aended several English as a Second Language (ESL) classes in he Jackson mero area. Afer he funeral she said, I ve never known of people being able o laugh, smile, or sing a a funeral. Over he course of several monhs and many opporuniies o hear he Gospel, his new siser in Chris found ha she could face deah wih no fear because of he resurrecion power of Jesus. ESL is one par of he lieracy missions minisry ha impacs hundreds of sudens and voluneers across Mississippi each year. The purpose of lieracy missions is o share Jesus Chris while eaching inernaionals English, helping sudens be successful in school, and helping aduls read and wrie beer. In a combined effor, he Insiuo Teologico Bauisa de Mississippi (he Hispanic Seminary in Jackson) parnered wih Gulf Coas Bapis Associaion, he Mississippi Bapis Convenion and local churches, o discover and reach Hispanics in he area. More han fory Spanish-speaking sudens and faculy from Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee spen a weekend las summer visiing Wiggins, Waveland, Bay S. Louis, Pass Chrisian, Long Beach, Gulfpor, Biloxi and D Iberville. The mission rip allowed he eams o reach people for Chris, while providing pracical evangelism raining o he sudens. In he six monhs afer he rip, suden mission eams engaged and followed up wih he conaced people o esablish more connecions wihin he Hispanic communiy. CWJC/CMJC wih Caherine Jorns Sie Coordinaor, Pine Bel CWJC Lisa began our Chrisian Women s Job Corp (CWJC) program while she was living in a en. She had lived here for six monhs and was disraced, depressed and diry. As he classes began, many voluneers were uncomforable wih her and fel she would no make i he firs few weeks. Bu hen Lisa began o come ou of her shell. We learned ha she had a degree in horiculure and also had an adul daugher ha she los conac wih many years ago. Lisa had no idenificaion papers; herefore, she could no ge a job or even a bank accoun. She could no ge sae idenificaion unil she had all her oher papers. A he end of he 12-week program, we worked wih anoher non-profi organizaion and secured an aparmen for her. No only has Lisa reconneced wih her daugher, bu she now also has a relaionship wih her. Afer nine monhs in our program, Lisa has a Mississippi Idenificaion Card, a bank accoun and a job. We are graeful ha he Margare Lackey Sae Missions Offering allows us he opporuniy o help women like Lisa have a fresh sar in life. COLLEGIATE OUTREACH Chrisine, an inernaional suden, ended up in he Mississippi Dela a year ago afer sudying in her homeown in Eas Asia where she acceped Chris in 2013. Upon finding he BSU a Dela Sae, she conneced immediaely. Someimes i s hard for me o hang ou wih friends because of culure shock here, bu I feel more comforable a he BSU because we are all Chrisians. We love each oher, and we accep each oher in our differences. Chrisine wen on he BSU Spring Break mission rip o Indianapolis, Indiana. Josh Warren (Associae BSU Direcor) invied me and I said I would hink abou i, Afer seeking advice from a Chrisian menor back in her home counry who asked her Why no go? she decided o go. Afer overcoming her fears, she joined several oher sudens on he nine-hour rek o Indiana. Reflecing on her experience, Chrisine realized Indianapolis made more of a difference in her han she made here. PORT MINISTRY wih Adrian Turner Chaplain/Direcor Seafarers Minisry My wife and I serve on a unique mission field because we work wih an invisible people group or a group of individuals who are rarely seen. These people spend mos of heir lives a sea, aboard ships. God brings seafarers from all over he world o our doorsep a he Por of Pascagoula. Our goal is o share he love of Jesus hrough service o srangers in a foreign land. We are able o share Jesus hrough a worship ime on board he ship a simple Bible sudy, prayer, a shor message, fellowship, and maybe a song or wo. I is amazing o winess he appreciaion of he crew who gaher in he day room or dining area. During several of hese worship imes, I have asked How long has i been since you had a worship service on board? The answer has usually been, NEVER. We are able o provide Bibles and he Jesus DVD in heir language for hem o enjoy and hen ake home o heir families.
