Health & Welfare report by Elayne KB1IKH. Elayne reports the following: A Get Well card was sent to Brad W1AY Sunday Public Service Net Control for August 2018. September 9 th Jeff WK1D September 16 th Jeff N1SOM September 23 rd Paul W1GTX September 30 th Bob KA1KIJ Wednesday 28.333Mhz 8pm RagChew Net Control for August 2018. September 12 th Ross W1EKG September 19 th Ross W1EKG (net start time approx after MOTA net) September 26 th Paul W1GTX New Members: Joe K1JMA and Jeff N1SOM report no new membership applications this month. Marshfield Fair report from Jack N1QE (event charman) Joe K1JMA read a report provided by Jack N1QE who could not be in attendance at this club meeting: Report to the Membership 27 August 2018 Marshfield Fair 2018 We were successful in filling all 20 shifts over the 10 days of the fair, although a few shifts started a little late due to changes in work commitments and some had a single person. We implemented a few changes this year: -Started sign up earlier and went to mostly an email on line system -Limit to 2 people per shift until all shifts filled -Changed to 2 shifts/day with a ½ hour overlap to ensure total coverage -Provided name badges for shift volunteers -Utilized some brochure racks to present materials better to the public as well as keep them from blowing off the table -Distributed passes at the meeting prior to the fair, approx. 70% delivery rate The event went well though a lot of downpours and squall lines. Traffic was a bit slow at times

but made many contacts with people of all ages, our give away item of a business card incorporated into a communications tri-fold card that included mores code, signal flags and semi phore were a big hit with all age groups. I would like to thank our shift operators: Mike Davis WA1MAD John Murphy WI1G Heather DeMont W1AZU John Duprey KB1SVY Dave Beauvasis KB1QMX John Laiosa N1BSO Jeff Tracy N1SOM Paul Moss KB1MTW Bob Azanow KA1KIJ Marty Nugent KC1FZH Ben Fletcher KC1JSL Charles Sheputa N1ANS Frank Sheputa W1LJM Pete Carlson KB1POO Alice Carlson KB1OAU John Chase KB1ODS Mark Hilrtle KC1ITF Ross Hochstrasser W1EKG Paul DeLory W1GTX Jack Foley N1QE Kurt Sundwall KC1EUJ Steve Lyons KB1WNX Chris Babbitt N1CFB Joe Amorelli K1JMA Larry Kenney W1VP Wayne Galvin W1WAG Jeff Lehmann N1ZZN Fred Birtwell K1FAB Billy Robinson K1UFO Ben Rioux SWL Thanks to our setup/takedown crew: Jim O Rourke WG1L John Murphy WI1G Loren Pimentel N1IQI Paul Moss KB1MTW John Chase KB1ODS Kurt Sundwall KC1EUJ Richard Metcalf AG1B Fred Birtwell K1FAB SWL Fergie Also a thank you to Bill N1FRE for his guidance and input as I take on this event. Some thoughts for next year: Have the following items at the fair: frequency chart and class schedule handout sheet with the class schedule along with the WA1NPO banner mounted on the tent. We might also consider having a panel on the South side of our tent as a sun and weather block, it gets a little hot and sometimes wet during the fair. Also consider having a club T-shirt that members could wear to make the club a little more professional. One other item, maybe check into the feasibility of an antenna bracket mounted on the shed to get the 2 meter out of the way and avoiding the communication issues we had at times. Thanks you to all of those that gave us a hand in this club event, your assistance was appreciated by both the club as well as myself. I am not in attendance tonight as I am at the BSA Roundtable. Jack Foley N1QE Marshfield Fair Chairman After the letter was read, the club membership gave all those contributing to the event a lengthy round of applause.

Training Committee update by Ross W1EKG Ross reminded everyone he and Paul W1GTX have started the Technician class (on September 4 th ) which will run throughout September on Tuesday and Thursday evenings with a VE session on Tuesday October 2 nd. Ross plans to follow this with a General class starting sometime in October and an Extra class in January 2019. Exact dates tbd- but will be published on the club website. Joe K1JMA thanked Ross and all who helped with the recent Marshfield Fair training session. Equipment/Assets committee update by Paul KB1MTW Paul reported the Yaesu FT-990 HF rig recently acquired from N1VEG/SK has tested fine. Joe K1JMA indicated this would be kept for club use and not sold at this time. Repeater report by Jeff N1ZZN Jeff asked Kevin KB1MOC to provide info on the possibility of installing our 2Meter repeater antenna (currently in storage) at the clubs current repeater site. Kevin explained how this might be possible at a low/no cost to the club as some point in the future. Patience was advised with Kevin and/or Jeff will keep the club informed in the future. New Business Joe K1JMA asked who was attending the upcoming ARRL Boxboro convention on September 7 th 9 th and NEAR-Fest on October 12 th -13 th. A general discussion took place regarding both events. This included the application process for club early-entry NEAR-Fest passes. Ben KC1JSL mentioned an Octoberfest event at his church in Halifax on October 7 th and asked if the club would be interested in having a table at the event. Interest was high so Joe K1JMA asked that details be sent to the club email. Ben confirmed he would send the info. Joe K1JMA reminded folks of the South Shore Model Railway Club and Museum show and open house coming up on October 27 th and 28 th. Joe K1JMA reminded folks of the clubs Winterfest Flea Market event taking place on the 3 rd Saturday in January (Jan 19 th, 2019). Further plans are to be made, including confirming use of the K/C Hall for this event.

Paul KM1MTW mentioned the lack of new RG-213 coax for sale by area vendors until well into October. Anyone who knows of a source of this coax, please contact Paul. Paul also indicated the club supply of PL259 connectors is running low at the moment and needs to be re-stocked. A general discussion took place with several suggested sources for coax and connectors being offered. Jeff N1SOM indicated he will look into re-stocking these items also. Motion to adjourn made by John WI1G with a second by Jeff WK1D. Motion passed a quorum vote. Joe K1JMA adjourned the meeting at 7:38pm, 09/05/18 End Secretary's Report
