Our Vision: We Worship. We Disciple. October 2018 Food Pantry Drive Month of October Children & Youth During the month of October we will be having a Food Pantry Drive for the children/youth. There will be a tub in each Sunday school class to place your items for the food pantry. We will display our food in the sanctuary the 1 st Sunday of November for the congregation to see what was collected. Let s make this year our BIGGEST collection ever! There are suggestions of items needed on a separate flyer in the newsletter. Any questions, please contact Priscilla Bunch via email christianed@suffolkchristian.org.

My Dear Friends, I thank God every day for our wonderful church family. The energy and enthusiasm with which you pursue your Christian discipleship is such a blessing and good example to all. You gladly and faithfully pursue all the rather "mundane" tasks relating to a good church operation. The bills are paid, Rev. Michael D. Halley the building is cleaned, maintenance is done, choir and handbell rehearsals are conducted, this newsletter is prepared, and on and on. But you also think outside the box! New ministries are born, due to those who see a need and then ask God to help them fill that need. It may be a need to feed the hungry, provide clothing, or give a warm coat. It also includes assisting a stranded traveler. And most recently, stuffing our church bus with needed supplies for our flooded friends in North Carolina. (We successfully delivered the supplies on last Sunday.) This is the heart of "church work"! But there is another aspect to remember. Yes, we are all about providing for the physical needs of our friends. But their greatest ultimate need is spiritual, and we can provide for that as well. All of us can participate in our spiritual ministries. We can pray daily, using our weekly Prayer Guide to assist. We can be good witnesses to our faith, showing by our attitude and our actions that we belong to Jesus Christ. Sometimes we use words to verbally reach out to someone and let them know that God loves them and has a wonderful plan for their life. This is the church... the "ekklesia"... those called out by God to come together to be the body of Christ in the world. Thank God for you! Curiosity is hardwired in humanity. We have this innate need to question and seek after what we don t know or understand. In this 6-session Bible study, dive into Scripture to explore how God created us to seek after Him - a God who desires to be found and known. In this lifelong quest of faith, learn to develop your intimacy with Him and embrace the adventure that comes with living a life for God. The cost of the study journal is $15.00. Please sign up on the bulletin board outside of the church office so we can make sure we purchase enough study journals. If you should have any questions, please feel free to contact Priscilla Bunch via email at christianed@suffolkchristian.org. CARE AND CONCERN The 2019 Care and Concern sign-up calendar for weekly contacts has been posted on the bulletin board outside the church office. If you signed up for a week or more in 2018, would you please consider taking a week or more as a contact person in 2019. This would be so helpful in having all the weeks filled and would help our Weekly Contact Facilitators, Evelyn Jones and Beverly McGahee, not have to make so many phone calls asking for your help. Or if you were not able to take a week in 2018 but would like to take one in 2019, please contact Evelyn or Beverly or anyone on the Care and Concern Committee. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

If you have any questions, please contact Priscilla Bunch via email at christianed@suffolkchristian.org. Daylight Savings Time ends Sunday, November 4! Youth Bible Study After a lot of prayer and thought, I have decided to have Youth Bible Study on Sunday afternoons. The last few bible studies we had before the summer and during the summer, it seemed harder for the youth to participate with their academic/extracurricular activities during the week. We will start our study on Sunday, October 14 th, from 4:00 pm 5:30 pm in the Conference Room. Our study will be Extraordinary which is study based on scripture to see that God uses people like Adam, Abraham, Moses, Joshua, Job and Esther in ways that they never could have imagined. He s not asking us to be like those men or women. He s inviting us to trust Him in our normal, everyday lives, and to join His extraordinary mission. I encourage all the youth to attend if possible. This is a great time of fellowship among the youth of our church. There will be a sign up sheet on the bulletin board outside of the church office. Please sign up your youth or have them sign up so I can make sure they all have a book for the study. If you should have any questions, please feel free to contact Priscilla Bunch via email christianed@suffolkchristian.org.
