GATHERING Come and Let Us Sing An Ancient-Future Faith Community Liturgy June 18, 2017 (Second Sunday after Pentecost) Come and let us sing, come and let us sing, Come and let us sing to the King of Kings. (repeat) Enter His gates with thanksgiving; enter His courts with praise. Chorus: He s worthy to be praised; exalt His holy name: Glory and honor, majesty and power. Come and let us shout, come and let us shout, Come and let us shout to the Lord, our God.... Jonathan Butler. 2005 Universal Music/Brentwood Benson Songs. O come, let us sing to the LORD; Let us make a joyful noise to the Rock of our salvation! Let us serve the LORD with gladness, and come into His presence with music and song. For the LORD is the great God, a great King above all gods! Know that the LORD is God. It is He who made us, and not we ourselves. We are His people, and the sheep of His pasture. Sing praises to our King, sing praises! Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, and bless His name. For the LORD is good; His steadfast love endures forever, and His faithfulness to all generations. O come, let us worship and bow down, Let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker! For the LORD, the Most High, is awesome; He is a great King over all the earth. Scripture weaving from Psalms 47, 95 and 100

All People That On Earth Do Dwell All people that on earth do dwell, Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice. Him serve with fear, His praise forth tell; Come ye before Him and rejoice. O enter then His gates with praise; Approach with joy His courts unto; Praise, laud, and bless His Name always, For it is seemly so to do. Bridge: Sing to the Lord, exalt His name; O, make His praise glorious. Pour forth His praise, His anthem raise; Rejoice in Him forever. For why? the Lord our God is good; His mercy is forever sure; His truth at all times firmly stood, And shall from age to age endure. Bridge To Father, Son and Holy Ghost, The God whom heaven and earth adore, From men and from the angel host Be praise and glory evermore. Setting and bridge: Ellen Koehler Copyright 2010 Words from Fourscore and Seven Psalms of David (Geneva, 1561), attributed to William Kethe. Hymn tune (verses): Old 100 th, attributed to Louis Bourgeois. PRAYERS OF ADORATION, INVOCATION AND THANKS Calling on our Father God, in the Name of Jesus, inspired by the Spirit 2

Highest Your love, O Lord, is like the oceans: deeper than endless seas. Your faithfulness is like the mountains, and Your Word never fails. Glory to God, let every heart sing: Glory to God in the highest. Let us adore, wonderful, Saviour; crown Him forever our King. CCLI Song #3979958 2002 Hillsong Music. Reuben Morgan. CCLI License # 3097801 PROFESSION OF FAITH Let us together profess the faith of the church of all ages in these words from the epistle of the Apostle Paul to the Romans: Since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through Him we have obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only that, but we also rejoice in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; And perseverance brings about proven character; and proven character brings about hope. And hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. God demonstrates His own love for us in that, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since we have been justified by His blood, how much more shall we be saved from God s wrath through Him! For if, while we were God s enemies, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through His life! Not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation. from Romans 5:1-11 Thanks be to God! 3

PRAYERS OF CONFESSION Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will tell what He has done for my soul. If I regard wickedness in my heart, the LORD will not hear. But certainly God has heard: He has given heed to the words of my prayer, and has not turned away His lovingkindness from me. from Psalm 66:16-20 [Silence] Almighty God, we confess that we have sinned against you and against others, in thought and word and deed, through negligence, through weakness, through our own deliberate fault. We are truly sorry, and repent of all our sins. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, who died for us, forgive us all that is past; and grant that we may serve you in newness of life to the glory of your name. Amen. Agnus Dei O Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; Have mercy on us. O Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; Have mercy on us, have mercy on us. Lord, have mercy; Christ, have mercy; Lord, have mercy. (repeat) O Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; Grant us peace. O Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; Grant us peace, grant us your peace. Setting: Copyright 2011 Ellen Koehler. 4

ASSURANCE OF PARDON I love the LORD, because He has heard my voice and my supplications. Because He inclined His ear to me, therefore I shall call upon Him as long as I live. Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; our God is full of compassion. Return to your rest, O my soul, for the LORD has dealt bountifully with you. For He has delivered our souls from death, our eyes from tears, our feet from stumbling. We will walk before the LORD in the land of the living. Amen! from Psalm 116:1-9 TIME OF OFFERING Words and prayers of thanksgiving and praise Holy I will lift my voice, and I will sing, I will sing holy, holy. To my Lord and Savior, my God and King: I will sing holy, holy Chorus: I will praise the Lamb of God who sits upon the throne. I will worship Him, and give the praise to Him alone. He who was and is and is to come: I will sing before His throne forever, forever. All the angels sing, and they bow down, And they sing holy, holy. We, Your sons and daughters, we praise You now: And we cry holy, holy. Chorus Holy, holy; holy, holy... Donnie McClurkin. 2003 Seven Summits Music and Don Mac Music. 5

THE WORD Genesis 18:1-15, (21:1-7) Exodus 19:2-8a Psalm 116:1-2, 12-19 Psalm 100 Romans 5:1-8 Matthew 9:35-10:23 THE TABLE Remembering the Body of Christ The Lord be with you! And also with you! Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give Him thanks and praise. Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again! The Lord s Prayer (spoken) Our Father, Who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, Forever. Amen Behold the Lamb Behold the Lamb who bears our sins away, slain for us: And we remember The promise made that all who come in faith Find forgiveness at the cross. 6

So, we share in this Bread of Life, And we drink of His sacrifice, As a sign of our bonds of peace Around the table of the King. The body of our Savior, Jesus Christ, torn for you: Eat and remember The wounds that heal, the death that brings us life, Paid the price to make us one. So, we share in this Bread of Life, And we drink of His sacrifice, As a sign of our bonds of love around the table of the King. The blood that cleanses ev ry stain of sin, shed for you: Drink and remember He drained death s cup that all may enter in To receive the life of God. So, we share in this Bread of Life, And we drink of His sacrifice, As a sign of our bonds of grace around the table of the King. And so with thankfulness and faith we rise to respond, And to remember Our call to follow in the steps of Christ as His body here on earth. As we share in His suffering, We proclaim: Christ will come again! And we ll join in the feast of heav n around the table of the King. CCLI Song #5003372; 2007 Thankyou Music. Keith Getty, Kristyn Getty, Stuart Townend. SENDING FORTH The Life of the Body Highest (reprise) / Doxology (O, For a Thousand Tongues) Glory to God, let every heart sing: Glory to God in the highest. Glory to God, and praise and love be ever, ever given, By saints below and saints above, the church in earth and heaven. Reuben Morgan, 2002 Hillsong Music / Hymn text: Charles Wesley, 1739; Hymn tune: Charles Collignon (1725-1785) 7

Benediction: Beloved, we go forth into the world with joy, to love and serve the Lord each of us with our whole heart, soul, strength and mind. Amen! Now to Him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before His glorious presence without fault and with great joy to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power, and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! from Luke 10:27 and Jude 24-25 Thanks be to God. Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! A thought about worship from the Ancient Fathers It was impossible that our lives, which were alienated from God, could return to the high and heavenly place through our own power. As a result, the Apostle Paul says He who didn't know any sin became sin for us. He freed us from the curse by taking our curse on Himself as His own. Having taken on this curse, He had slain in Himself the enmity that came between us and God through sin (in fact, sin was the enmity ). Having become what we were, He again united humanity to God through Himself. Through purity He brought our new selves, created after God's image, into a close relationship with the Father of our nature. All of God's fullness physically dwelt in Him. He drew everything that shares in His body and is similar to Him into the same grace. And He proclaims good news... to everyone who became a disciple of the Word up until today. The good news is that people are no longer condemned or cast out of the kingdom of God. But they are children again and returned to the position God assigned to them.... For behold, He says, I and the children whom God hath given Me. For our sakes He took part in flesh and blood and saved us. He brought us back to the place from which we strayed, becoming mere flesh and blood by sin. And so He from whom we were formerly alienated through our revolt has become our Father and our God.
