Vision & values Vision & Values The Diocesan mission statement is summed up in the strapline: Joining Together in the Mission of God and is underpinned by four mission values - which help drive the focus and strategy of the diocese. "The Kingdom of God is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field. It is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it is grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches." Matt 13 vv. 31 & 32 The values provide a framework to support mission and the growth of our Christian family life, revealing the Good News of our Lord Jesus Christ in word and deed. Strategy The strategy within the Mission template encourages each area of the diocese to look at these four challenges: Every post - a mission rationale Every building - a community purpose Every deanery - a collaborative mission plan Every benefice - to give "more than enough" for its mission (Exodus 36:5) Tactics If we are to prayerfully discern what God is calling us to we must share our experiences, giftings and needs. We also need to focus our energies on what is important, so we must ask each other: What will we do differently? - specifically in mission. What must we stop doing? - those things that bring death rather than life! What do we need? - new ideas, skills, resourcing, personnel, buildings... What can we learn together? - as a diocesan family STYLE GUIDE 3

Letterheads YOUR NAME Title Direct Line: 01636 817218/01636 817219 email: rachel@southwell.anglican.org December 2001 Dear Sir/Madam We would like to give your parish an early opportunity to be part of an exciting new venture in the Diocese. In March 2002 we are launching a new quality colour magazine, which will replace the monthly SEE newspaper. The new publication, which will build on the success of SEE, will be a forward-looking, feature-led publication, with content covering a wide range of subjects. There will be details of future courses, conferences and training and colour photo-spreads of people and events. Local communities and personalities will also be a regular focus, along with a reviews section. The quarterly A4 glossy magazine will offer something for all ages with its broad-based editorial content. The new magazine entitled: C The Magazine, will be available to every Anglican church in the Diocese of Southwell at a special discounted rate. Each magazine will have a 50p cover price on it, but parishes will be able to subscribe to it for just 30p a copy. Charging for the new magazine, will help reduce the large wastage problem we currently have with SEE, making the publication self-funding and so reducing overall costs. We do hope your parish will support this new venture, which will help link all our churches, by signing up for a year s subscription now. Distribution costs will be included in the cover fee, which we believe gives churches the opportunity to raise a little income of their own, if you choose to sell the magazines at the cover price. A total price for 20 issues each quarter for 2002, will only cost 24 in total. Apart from a church readership, we believe the product has the potential to reach other Christian denominations and non-churchgoers through distribution in the local community. I enclose a flyer with further details on the new magazine and a subscription form. Please don t hesitate to contact me for further information and I look forward to hearing from you very soon.
