TRINITY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH AUGUST 2017 VOL. 51 NO. 8 VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL Trinity hosted VBS for hundreds of children in July. A Note from Pastor Brian Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Some of my friends in ministry lead churches that slow down during the summer. I ve learned that is never the case here at Trinity! While summer remains an important time for families to step away from the demands and rhythms of daily life to renew themselves, that also means that several of our ministry areas do some of their most important work during these few months. Here are some highlights: We have welcomed two phenomenal new pastors, Amy DeWitte and Christian Cheairs, whose gifts for ministry are only out-shined by their spirit and heart. We also welcomed back Andy Wolfe to the clergy ranks, in his new role as Pastor Emeritus. Our Seasoned Adults headed west for a time of fellowship and exploring the grandeur of God s creation. The Cross and Flame Youth Choir headed north to Toronto, where they not only had a great time, they shared the good news of Christ s love in churches, nursing homes, and even a homeless shelter. Our student ministry has sent (literally) hundreds of students and adult volunteers to be in service in places like Memphis, Midfield, and even Panama. Our elementary ministry team (and dozens of wonderful volunteer helpers) led an incredible Vacation Bible School week, Venture camp for our older elementary kids, along with a number of opportunities throughout the summer for families to re-connect with each other and God. There are also countless individual stories I could share with you of lives changed, challenges met, decisions of faith, and the holy, ordinary work of life and death that comes with being a church family. For many folks in the church, this has not been an ordinary summer, and I am so grateful for the ways that the love of our Trinity Rev. Brian Erickson SENIOR PASTOR family shines brightest when those within the fold are going through their darkest times. Our Master Planning team has also continued their work through the summer, engaging various constituencies throughout the church for feedback, as well as identifying some deferred maintenance issues that need to be addressed immediately. I cannot say enough about the dedication of the team we ve assembled to guide us through this next horizon of vision and ministry. We have already asked a lot of them, both in terms of their time, as well as their spiritual investment in this process. I also appreciate your patience, as I know that the excitement of decisions being made and plans being set always causes some anxiety in a church. I have said it in earlier messages, but one of the most important ways we can support this work together is to not spread gossip or half-truths about what the future holds (Paul spends a good bit of ink in his letters describing the danger this kind of speculation can do in a church). If you have a question about the process, please talk to me or someone on the Master Planning team. Our plan remains to hold a town hall meeting once the school year starts back, and give everyone in the church family a chance to give feedback not only on our physical facilities, but also the mission and ministry needs of the church. Trinity is in one of its most fruitful seasons of ministry, and we bear a responsibility to those who got us to this point, as well as those who will reap what we sow during this time. Let us faithfully face the future together, as a family, that God s will might be done in us. I hope yours has been a blessed summer, and that you re ready for what God is going to do in these coming days! Dear Trinity, On behalf of my family, please accept my deep gratitude for the gracious sending forth of our family from Trinity into a new season of ministry here in the Ross Bridge community. The farewell reception was a Spirit-filled experience for us as we had the opportunity to say goodbye to people who mean so much to us. The generous love offering we received has helped us get settled into our new home and provided three children with new bicycles to explore their new community. The five years we had with you nourished our family life, widened our experience of God, and re-shaped me as a pastoral leader. Our family and my pastoral ministry will forever bear the gracious marks of our experience of Trinity United Methodist Church. Thank you for striving to become the church God knows you can be.
