Hajj Class 2 12 th July 2017 Introduction The meaning of the word Hajj is قصد which means directing or heading to one direction / one goal/ one path without turning right and left. Our قصد should be for Allah. Hajj tells us that my salat, my rituals, my life and my death belongs to Allah. The journey of hajj is a journey of the heart and your (قصد) is Allah.

Surah Al An am 162: ق ل إ ن ص لا ت ى و ن س ك ى و م ح ی اى و م م ات ى [ ر ب ٱل ع ل م ی ن Say (O Muhammad :(ﷺ "Verily, my Salât (prayer), my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allâh, the Lord of the 'Alamîn (mankind, jinn and all that exists) Hajj is not a fixed pattern like Ramadan, but one is going from one ritual to another. And this teaches us how to live our life i.e in my life my focus should be Allah as I go from one situation to another. Hajj is a training on how our heart should be directed to Allah in life. There reward for an accepted hajj is paradise and expiation of all sins. Hadith: ) ن أ ب ي ھ ر ی ر ة أ ن الن ب ي صلى الله علیھ وسلم ق ال " ال ع م ر ة إ ل ى ال ع م ر ة ك ف ار ة م ا ب ی ن ھ م ا و ال ح ج ال م ب ر ور ل ی س ل ھ ج ز اء إ لا ال ج ن ة ". (ﷺ) (It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet said: From one Umrah to another is an expiation for the sins that came in between them, and Hajj Mabrur (an accepted Hajj) brings no less a reward than Paradise. ) Sunan Ibn Majah Book 25, Hadith 3000. We need to be grateful to Allah that He gave us the opportunity to go for Hajj. We will continue with the Hajj of the body حج البدن / Rituals of Hajj Ihram contd المناسك Ihram is not just the clothes but it is a condition / state. Ihram starts from the place called Meeqat. The Niyah for the Umrah / Hajj is very important and it has to be said out aloud. You make the intention for Umrah and Hajj or just Hajj. The Ihram for Men is that they should not wear anything stitched. The Ihram for women is normal clothes. There is no stated color that must be worn, however the clothing should be lose and should not be revealing. In Ihram you cannot wear niqaab and gloves. In the state of Ihram you cannot put perfume and you can only use fragrance free hygiene products. You cannot cut your hair. However, you can wash and comb your hair. Page 2 of 8

Talbiyah Tabliyah is saying Here I am O Allah, (in response to Your call), here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Indeed all praise, grace and sovereignty belong to You. You have no partner. (Here I am O God in Truth, here I am.)* This means I came to You O Allah with all my heart, with love, sincerity, submission, and attachment. All the conditions of الھ الا الله) (لا are found in the Talbiyah. The conditions of الھ الا الله) (لا are: (العلم) 1. Knowledge (الیقین) 2. Yaqeen, certainty (القبول) 3. Acceptance (الا نقیاد) 4. Submission (الصدق) 5. Truthfulness (الا خلاص) 6. Ikhlas / sincerity (المحبة) 7. Love إ ن ال ح م د والن ع م ة ل ك و ال م ل ك لا ش ر یك ل ك knowledge: Tawheed of We acknowledge all praise and all blessing and all kingdom belongs to Allah and that Allah has no partners. ل ب ی ك actions: Tawheed of We are at the service of Allah and we do whatever Allah commands us. Umrah When we do Hajj Tammateh التمتع) (حج which is the best, then we first enter Ihram, perform Umrah then come out of Ihram and then again we enter Ihram for performing Hajj. Al Tawaf We need to be in a state of Wudhu in order to perform Tawaf. Tawaf can be perfomed on the lower or upper floor. Tawaf starts from Hajr Aswad. However, you do not need to go and touch Hajr Aswad in case of crowd. You can read any Dua while making Tawaf and we can even read the Quran. Page 3 of 8

Abstain from taking pictures or selfies when you are in Bait Al Haram When you see other people making mistakes then do not make fuss about it but ask Allah to forgive them During tawaf while going from the Yamani Corner til the Black Stone, the following dua is recited: ر ب ن ا ء ات ن ا ف ى ٱلد ن ی ا ح س ن ة و ف ى ٱلا خ ر ة ح س ن ة و ق ن ا ع ذ اب ٱلن ار "Our Lord! Give us in this world that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good, and save us from the torment of the Fire!" After we finish the tawaf and before going for As Sa ee we need to pray two rakah behind Maqam Ibrahim. If it is crowded and you cannot find place then these two rakah can be offered anywhere. One has to be pray Surah Kafiroon in 1 st Rakah and Surah Ikhlaas in the 2 nd Rakah. After finishing the two rakah you drink zamazam water till you are full. As Saee While going to Safa and Marwah, the below ayah is recited once. This is to be recited while going and not at Safa itself: Surah Al Baqarah 158: إ ن ٱل صف ا و ٱل م ر و ة م ن ش ع ا ى ر ٱ ] ف م ن ح ج ٱل ب ی ت أ و ٱع ت م ر ف لا ج ن اح ع ل ی ھ أ ن ی ط وف ب ھ م ا و م ن ت ط وع خ ی ر ا ف ا ن ٱ ] ش اك ر ع ل یم Verily! As-Safâ and Al-Marwah (two mountains in Makkah) are of the Symbols of Allâh. So it is not a sin on him who performs Hajj or 'Umrah (pilgrimage) of the House (the Ka'bah at Makkah) to perform the going (Tawâf) between them (As-Safâ and Al-Marwah). And whoever does good voluntarily, then verily, Allâh is All-Recogniser, All-Knower). This is recited only one time. When you reach Safa, you face the qiblah and it s ok if you can t see the Ka aba then you raise your hand and make the following dua: لا الھ الا الله وحده لا شریك لھ لھ الملك و لھ الحمد و ھو على كل شي قدیر - لا الھ الا الله وحده - أنجز وعده و.نصر عبده و ھزم الا حزاب وحده There is no one worthy of worship, to Him belongs the dominion and praise and He is able to do all things, there is no one worthy of worship except Him, He fulfilled His promise, gave victory to His slave and defeated the confederates alone Page 4 of 8

After saying the above, you make any dua you want, then you repeat a second time There is no one worthy of worship, to Him belongs the dominion and praise and He is able to do all things, there is no one worthy of worship except Him, He fulfilled His promise, gave victory to His slave and defeated the confederates alone Then after saying the above you make dua, then you repeat a third time by saying the above and then make dua You don t need to be in a state of wudhu while doing sa ee, but for tawaf it s required. Then you walk to Marwah and you can make dua in between. And this is repeated for seven circuits. Coming out of ihram In order to exit Ihram a woman needs to cut a fingertip length of hair. You can cut your own hair and you can do it at the hotel. You don t need to cut your hair in the harem. Actions of the Hajj Youm At Tarweeah 8 th of Zul Hajj Tarweeah means to give water to the animals because they will take them for sacrifice. You will again enter into Ihram from the place of your residence. You do not need to go to Meeqat to enter into Ihram You go to Mina before or after Zawal i.e. around noon. You need to start the Talbiyah and continuously be busy in saying the Talbiyah. You will continue to say Talbiyah till you throw stones i.e. Rami on the 10 th of Zul Hajj. All the rituals and symbols of Hajj are to exalt remember Allah therefore we must increase in Talbiyah When you reach Mina you need to pray shortened prayers i.e. Qasr but not combined. You pray 2 units for Fajr, 2 units for Zuhr in its time, 2 units for Asr in its time, 3 for Magrib in its time and 2 units for Isha in its time. While in Mina we only pray the 2 sunnah rakah for the Fajr but not the Rawatib Sunnah prayers. The 2 Rakah of the Fajr prayers are better than all the world and what it contains. Page 5 of 8

Youm Al Arafah 9 th of Zul Hajj You travel to Arafah on the 9 th of Zul Hajj. There are many people who go direct to Arafat and do not stay in Mina and this is permissible. If you are in Mina then you travel to Arafat after Fajr on the 9 th of Zul Hajj When in Arafat you do not need to go on the mountain. Making things difficult for oneself is not a sign a of piety. We need to take the ease when we have an option. When in Arafat you need to increase in Dua and not get distracted. Hajj teaches us to always remember Allah. You can say the dua below which has the greatest name of Allah أ ع ط ى " It was narrated that Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and a man was standing and praying. When he bowed, prostrated and recited the tashahhud, he supplicated, and in his supplication he said: "Allahumma inni as'aluka bi-anna lakal-hamd, lailaha illa ant, al-mannanu badi'us-samawati wal-ard, ya dhal-jalali wal-ikram! Ya hayyu ya qayyum! Inni as'aluka. (O Allah, indeed I ask You since all praise is due to You, there is none worthy of worship but You, the Bestower, the Creator of the heavens and earth, O Possessor of majesty and honor, O Ever-living, O- Eternal, I ask of You.)' The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'Do you know what he has supplicated with?' They said: "Allah and His Messenger (ﷺ) know best." He said: 'By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, he called upon Allah by His greatest Name, which, if He is called by it, He responds, and if He is asked by it, He gives.'") - Sunan an-nasa'i 1300 One must not rely or depend on your worships to take you to Paradise but it is infact Allah s mercy that makes hajj as a means for us to enter paradise. In Arafat you need to shorten the Zuhr and Asr and combine the two and pray it at the time of Zuhr. You do not need to go to the mosque to pray these prayers. Even the men can pray in congregation in their tents. This is because the time is very precious and we need to make dua. There is no fast on the day of Arafat for the one who is performing Hajj. There is no birr to fast while travelling. The fast on the 9 th of Zul hajj is for the person who is not performing Hajj. On the Day of Arafat we need to focus on the istigfaar. The Shaitaan is the most disgraced on the day of Arafat because Allah will forgive the sins of the pilgrims and the people will be like newborns. All the efforts of the Shaitaan are wasted. It is as if you have a huge debt and there is no way for you to repay but on the Day of Arafat your debt is forgiven. Page 6 of 8

There is no day when Allah sets free more servants from Hell than the Day of 'Arafah.) - Sahih Muslim 1348 On the Day of Arafat Allah comes down to the lowest heaven and Allah will boast about the pilgrims before the angels though the angels are perfect in their worship of Allah. Allah says to the angels look at my slaves, they came to me in Hajj leaving the luxuries of life, dusty and ungroomed from far away places. I bear witness that I forgive all of them. On Day of Arafah we need to focus on Zikr and dua. The best Dua to say on the Day of Arafat is: Hadith: ع ن ع م ر و ب ن ش ع ی ب ع ن أ ب یھ ع ن ج د ه أ ن الن ب ي صلى الله علیھ وسلم ق ال " خ ی ر الد ع اء د ع اء ی و م ع ر ف ة و خ ی ر م ا ق ل ت أ ن ا و الن ب ی ون م ن ق ب ل ي لا إ ل ھ إ لا ا ] وح د ه لا ش ر یك ل ھ ل ھ ال م ل ك و ل ھ ال ح م د و ھ و ع ل ى ك ل ش ي ء ق د ی ر " (Amr bin Shu aib narrated from his father, from his grandfather, that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: The best of supplication is the supplication of the Day of Arafah and the best of what I and the Prophets before me have said is: None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, Alone, without partner, to Him belongs all that exists, and to Him belongs the Praise, and He is powerful over all things. (La Ilaha Illallah, Wahdahu La Sharika Lahu, Lahul-Mulku Wa Lahul-Hamdu, Wa Huwa Ala Kulli Shai in Qadir). ) - Jami` at-tirmidhi 3585 After Magrib everyone must leave Arafat and the sight reminds you of the Day of Judgment as people move from one station to another. After finishing Arafat you need to believe that Allah has accepted your dua and Hajj. We should not think bad about Allah. Muzdalifah Night of 10 th Zul Hajj After leaving Arafat you reach Muzdalifah and you pray Magrib and Isha as combined and shortened i.e. 3 for magrib and 2 for Isha. The worship in Muzdalifah is to sleep You do not need to take stones from Muzdalifah. After praying Fajr in Muzdalifah you leave the place and move on to perform the other rituals. Page 7 of 8

Youm An Nahr 10 th of Zul Hajj The greatest day of the world is the day of the sacrifice. All the rituals on this day are for remembering Allah. The rituals do not need to be in a certain order. Tawaf Al Ifidha : This includes doing the tawaf and the Sa ee Throwing stones at Jamarat Al Kubra : This is in Mina, there are three jamaraat, but you only throw stones at the big one. You can throw stones from anywhere around it. Do make sure you choose small stones in order to not hurt people Sacrifice of the animal : You need to physically see the sacrifice Cutting the hair : You cut your hair after completing the Tawaf and Sa ee and you exit the Ihraam. Ayaam At Tasreeq 11 th, 12 th and 13 th Zul Hajj You have to be in Mina on these days and you have an option to leave Mina on the 12 th or the 13 th. If you are leaving on the 12 th then you need to leave before Magrib. On the 11 th you collect 21 stones and you throw seven stones at each Jamara. These stones that you throw will be light on Day of Judgment. After throwing the 7 stones on the first jamarah, you can make dua then you throw 7 stones on the second jamarah and make dua. Then you go to the third jamarah and throw 7 stones. While throwing each stone you need to say Allah u Akber On the 12 th of Zul Hajj you repeat as you did on the 11 th of Zul Hajj On the 13 th of Zul Hajj you repeat as you did on the 12 th of Zul Hajj Farewell Tawaf Tawaf al Wida There is Tawaf but no Saee To be Continued Page 8 of 8
