October 2018 The Connection Tawas Area Presbyterian Church 2095 E. U.S. Hwy 23, East Tawas, MI 48730 Pastor Kathleen Rowe Fall Greetings! Is it just me, or did summer seem to fly by so quickly that I missed it? I admit fall is my favorite season. Color everywhere! God s creative hand visible everywhere you look. For us as a church it s a time to install new elders and deacons, celebrate World Communion Sunday, remember our reformed theology, send off our snowbirds with a potluck, lift up all our ministry partners in prayer... and the list goes on. At times it seems the business of the church takes up a large amount of our time. We are an active church continuing to do God s work here in this place. But in these last weeks the body of Christ was visible to all in a special way. You welcomed and served many friends, colleagues, and strangers. Your light was truly Christ s light to all those present for meetings, worship and memorials. You were Christ s love in action. It was present everywhere. From the parking lot, to the kitchen, to the choir and everywhere in between. My thanks to all who took part. What joy fills my heart, Jesus said Rise up church and you did. With thanks, Pastor Kathleen Tawas Area Presbyterian Church Mission Statement To commit to God s guidance and passionately share God s love with people of all ages.

They have a drop box in our church (and other places in town). They need new or gently used warm coats, snowsuits, and snow pants to distribute free to needy children in Iosco County. Warm gloves, new hats and scarves are also accepted and appreciated. Ask any teacher in this town who has watched kids arrive at school with no jacket. They will tell you that the need for kids coats is much bigger than most of us realize. It is a gift that will be greatly appreciated by children in our area. The drop boxes are out now and will be available until October 23th. For more information call 989-362-8161 or email ioscocoats@gmail. com. You can also find Iosco Coats for Kids on Facebook.

The Connection October 2018 Page 3 Do you love singing and making music? Do you play guitar or piano? How about a string instrument like violin or cello? Or a wind instrument like clarinet or flute? If you have any musical talents whatsoever and would consider sharing of your gifts for our worship service, please contact Patty at 989-295-6444. We hope to get as many soloists and instrumentalists involved in our music program as possible. We look forward to hearing from you! Wanted! Singers! Our choir is in need of more singers, both men and women. If you would like to serve your church through singing and you enjoy singing, (yes, we have fun!) and can sing in tune, we invite you to try us out for a few weeks. You don t have to read music or be here every week. Rehearsals are Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. and we warm-up at 9:15 on Sundays. Call Patty at 989-295-6444 if you are interested or have questions. New Website Update We are excited to announce the new church website will be up and running in the next couple of weeks. It is finished, we are waiting on a couple certifications and then it will be ready to explore. Wear RED for Reformation Sunday on October 28th Reformation Sunday is coming on October 28th and the congregation is asked to wear red that day. We wear red on that day to represent the Holy Spirit and the Martyrs of the Christian Church.

The Connection October 2018 Page 5 Samaritans Purse Shoebox project September Presbytery Meeting It is time to think about packing a shoe box for a child somewhere around the world for Christmas. Boxes are due by the second week in November. You can find the empty shoe boxes and brochures on how to pack a shoe box in the Servery. Each shoe box will contain a water bottle until our supply is gone. This water bottle can be filled with gifts that will fit in it. Remember nothing edible, toothpaste, liquids or creams of any kind are allowed. Remember to attach the Boy or Girl tag and check what age you did your box for. ALL BOXES MUST CLOSE TIGHTLY. If you can put the postage in the box also that would be great but not required. Remember to pray over your box and if you wish enclose a letter or card to the child. If you would like to track your box there is a way to do that by going to Samaritan's Purse track my box on the Internet. When you complete your box please place it in the meeting room in the cupboard marked SHOE BOX- ES. Any questions ask Audrey, Candace or Jan Doak. Thank you for your faithfulness over the years to this blessed project. We were privileged to have the Presbytery of Lake Huron here on September 20th. The meeting began with an uplifting worship service. Thank you to all the congregation and friends that joined us for worship. Thank you also for all the help serving to the presbytery. From parking lot attendants, to ushers and very welcoming greeters, we received lots of compliments on our salad luncheon and our choir anthem. We were excited to welcome our fellow churches to Tawas Area Presbyterian Church. Great Job Everyone! New Members On Sunday Sept. 9th we welcomed 4 new members into our church body. Aaron and Jacquelyn Brown, Michele Griesmer and Trisha Ward have joined TAPC. Please continue to celebrate with us and welcome them into membership. CARDS We are still selling greeting cards that are donated by you the congregation in the servery. The money earned from these cards helps support the shoe box project. If you receive new cards in the mail as promotionals and would like to donate them to this cause please just place them on the table with the rest of the cards in the servery. Thank you, Jan Doak New Elders and Deacons On Sunday Sept. 23 we installed and ordained our new Elders and Deacons during the service and training will be during the first week of October.
