PLACES OF INTEREST IN MANALI Rohtang Pass - A lofty mountain pathway that connects Kullu with Spiti and Lahaul. This pass is a popular picnic spot in summer. Beas Kund (Chandratal Lake) - A historic place, where it is believed that Sage Vyas had performed his daily bath, Beas Kund is regarded as sacred by the Hindus. The originating point of the Majestic River Beas, Beas Kund is sheltered by an igloo like stone formation. A typical rocky terrain, this place is devoid of vegetation and is only reachable through trekking. Apart from its religious importance, Beas Kund offers tremendous defying activities like trekking and camping for adventurous enthusiasts. It will take around 3 to 4 hours to explore the region. Besides, it s best to visit during May to October as the temperature remains pleasant. Be sure to carry light woolens during your visit. BEST TIME TO VISIT MANALI The climate of Manali remains pleasant mostly through the year but the month from September to June is the best time to visit Manali. Winters (October to February) the temperature can dip as low as 1 C, making it an ideal time for skiing and enjoying Snowfall which is common during the end of December and the whole of January. Summers (March to June) are ideal for enjoying paragliding, rafting, zorbing and mountain sports in Solang Valley. Rohtang Pass is open only from end of May to September and snow on the ground can be found here till the month of June or July. HOW TO REACH Air: Bhuntar, which is 50 km away from Manali, is the nearest airport. Taxi services are available from Bhuntar to Manali, which costs about Rs 1000. Bhuntar is connected to Delhi by air. Delhi is the major nearest airport, which is about 565 km away from Manali. Delhi airport is well connected with all major cities in India and many cities abroad. Rail: Nearest convenient rail head are at Chandigarh and Pathankot. Manali can be reached from road from these stations. Road: Manali is well connected by road with Delhi, Ambala, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Haridwar, Shimla, Dharamsala and Chamba/Dalhousie. Regular buses ply between these stations. It is connected with Leh during July to October.
