JULY TIDES North Bay Community Church Newsletter July 2017 Dialogue with Danny: The Special Meaning of Flag Ceremonies Meaning of Flag Draped Coffin: All Americans should be given this lesson. Our founding fathers used GOD's word and teachings to establish our Great Nation. To understand what the flag draped coffin really means... Here is how to understand the flag that lay upon it and is surrendered to so many widows and widowers. Each act at the service is with meaning and intent. For instance: Do you know that at military funerals, the 21-gun salute stands for the sum of the numbers in the year 1776? And have you ever noticed the honor guard pays meticulous attention to correctly folding the United States of America Flag 13 times? You probably thought it was to symbolize the original 13 colonies, but we learn something new every day! The 1st fold of the flag is a symbol of life; life in this world of trouble and conflict. The 2nd fold is a symbol of the belief in eternal life; the life of peace eternal with the Father. The 3rd fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veterans, departing the ranks, who gave a portion of their lives for the defense of the country, to attain peace throughout the world. The 4th fold represents us as the weaker nature; for as American citizens trusting in God, it is to Him we turn in times of peace as well as in time of war for His divine guidance. God is stronger than we. The 5th fold is a tribute to the country, for in the words of Stephen Decatur, 'Our Country, in dealing with other countries, may she always be right; but it is still our country, right or wrong.' The 6th fold is for where people's hearts lie. It is with their heart that they pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and the Republic for which it stands, one Nation, under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all. The 7th fold is a tribute to its Armed Forces, for it is through the Armed Forces that they protect their country and their flag against all her enemies, whether they are found within or without the boundaries of their republic. The 8th fold is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light of day. The 9th fold is a tribute to womanhood, and Mothers. For it has been through their faith, their love, their loyalty and their devotion that the character of the men and women who have made this country great has been molded. The 10th fold is a tribute to the father, for he, too, has given his sons and daughters for the defense of their country since they were first born.

Dialogue with Danny continued The 11th fold represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon (the Star of David) and glorifies in the Hebrews eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The 12th fold represents an emblem of eternity (the trinity) and glorifies, in the Christians eyes, God the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit. The 13th fold, or when the flag is completely folded; the stars are placed uppermost reminding us of our nation s motto; 'In God We Trust.' After the flag is completely folded and tucked in, it takes on the appearance of a cocked hat, ever reminding us of the soldiers who served under General George Washington, and the Sailors and Marines who served under Captain John Paul Jones, who were followed by their comrades and shipmates in the Armed Forces of the United States, preserving for us the rights, privileges and freedoms we enjoy today. Pastor Danny Christian Education Our Adult Sunday School Class meets at 9:15 each Sunday morning in the Ron Rowand Room. The class is studying a book entitled Troublesome Passages in the Bible and is being led by Herb Angel. Please come and join us. Our Men s Prayer Group with an emphasis on prayer, study, discussion and sharing is meeting each Monday morning at 11:30 in the Ron Rowand Room. All are welcome, and we hope you will consider becoming a part of this group. If you have questions, please call Don Clapp. We are planning additional Christian Education studies that we hope will be of interest to you. We didn t get a lot of responses to our Christian Education Survey, but we will use the information that we did collect in planning those studies. We are planning for these new studies to World Missions Go into all the world and preach the gospel. We share the gospel as God s Word instructs us by our lives and by telling others of our relationship with Jesus. We also have opportunity to support our missionaries working in several countries. Soon there will be a box under the small mission s bulletin board. You may put in gifts for missions any Sunday. Mid-Year Summary of our Church Council Activities A lot has happened since our annual meeting last January, here are some of the major points: 1) The Building and Grounds Committee has set forth a program to update our B&G. Here are some of major accomplishments. Much appreciation to David Baker and Barry Austin. a) Re-sealed the sanctuary s roof panel seams. With plans to do the same for the admin building. b) Installed new ceiling panels in the gathering room. c) Repaired the fence on our western boundary. d) Commenced repairing our lawn and scrub irrigation system. e) Installed an LED lighting system in the sanctuary at a very low cost, which will result in a short-term payback. 2) The pre-school is at near full capacity. Although, we are always looking for more pre-school children. Additionally, installed a new camera monitoring system for the school. 3) Commenced the review and updating of our church s bylaws. It is our intent to finalize this review by year -end for presentation to the church body at the 2018 annual meeting. 4) While we are behind a little in meeting our weekly pledges, the overall finances of the church are sound. The finance committee commenced a review of the basic elements of our system of financial management, oversight and reporting, which has resulted in some improved financial reporting recommendations. 5) Inclusion in the Tides, timely pertinent financial articles will be presented on a periodic basis. 6) Our various committees continue to strive to provide the best offerings for both our spiritual, outreach and fellowship growth. Thanks for your prayers and support!

Community Missions Can you believe that school starts in about 6 weeks? Time for our School Supply Drive! This year again we will be collecting supplies for McMullen Booth Elementary School, our church school and Calvin Hunsinger school, a school that deals with behavior problems. They have a Positive Behavior Reward System where good behavior earns points that become school money which can be used to buy things at the school store. The school store has individual size snacks, juice boxes, granola bars and microwave popcorn bags. On Sunday July 16th and 23rd, we will be asking everyone to bring in school supplies and those items needed at the school store. Items needed are listed here in the bulletin. We can help make it possible for children to go to school with all the things they need to learn.
