Attendees Pastor Tom Jones, Joanne Sprankle, John Sornberger, Cathy Sornberger, Debbie Compton, Regina Patterson, Don Beireis, David Black, Lio Castaneda, Nancy Williams, James Chambers, and Linda Shell. AWANA: Nancy Williams reported the last day of AWANA for the 2016 season will be 5/15/16. They will be practicing for the Awanas Olympics this month. Sal Modica from First Baptist of Fair Oaks is coordinator and the date of this year s AWANA Olympics has yet to be determined. BAC: James Chambers reported the budget for the 2016 year is $284,895. That is an increase from 2015 which was $259,000. Part of the increase is due to the Verizon contract. The church has received the good faith check from Verizon in the amount of $1,000. The BAC added a Local Missions (section 803) to Denominational category. We are supporting local ministries with $1,200. It is a good faith effort to keep our efforts local: Colligate Missionary Bethany, Downtown ministries, and Pastor Ron Jackson from West Sacramento (Their church is having financial problems and may be forced to close). Deacons: John Sornberger reported the church has had three benevolent needs in the last three weeks. Two members of the church and one non-member. Dates for 2016 Communion services: March 20 (Palm Sunday), June 19 (Father s Day), September 25, and December 24. Fellowship: Joanne Sprankle reported the Annie Armstrong Banquet will be held on 3/13/16. Regina Patterson: The Ladies Tea will be on 4/9/16. Joanne Sparkle: The men s breakfast is scheduled for 5/14/16. T The Food Box ministry was very successful this year. We were able to give out 101 fully packed boxes and each had a pie; 122 people were given something. Thanks to the AWANAS for their part in the can food drive. Pastor Tom suggested we budget for 125 boxes next year. We need a system in place to control the lines and abuse on the whole process. Fantastic Fellowship: Cathy Sornberger reported that in December FF watched the movie The Christmas Card and then took a field trip to Nevada City where the movie was filmed. Page 1 of 5
On 1/14/16 Joanne and Dale will be holding the New Year s Eve Party at their house. The will be a white elephant gift exchange. 2/11/16 we will be having dinner out at the Texas Roadhouse on Sunrise at Greenback. We will be meeting at the church at 4:30. 3/10/16 Lunch and games at the church. Baked potatoes and salad. Meeting at the church at 11:00. Music and Worship Dave Black reported on the Christmas Eve Service. The type of candles used was discussed, battery operated candles vs. real candles. The decision has been made by the Deacons to use the battery candles. There has been expression of dissatisfaction with no formal Christmas program. Between illness and vacations is has become difficult to put together a formal program. The pastor suggested the Bell Choir from Fair Oaks Baptist Church as a possible option. The limited program we did have on the Sunday before Christmas and the Christmas Eve service it was well received and appreciated. David Black and the Pastor have discussed a theme for Resurrection Sunday, a five-week series from birth to resurrection. The music and the message theme will go together. As part of the service the church will offer photos on Resurrection Sunday and have the prints available on the following Sunday. Nomination Committee: Nancy Williams reported Debra Sharpless is considering becoming an extra trustee and Michelle Black has agreed to become the Children Director. There will be a complete list of names before the Annual Meeting on January 13 The lack of workers for Children Church was discussed. There are presently four workers for this ministry. Prayer Ministries: Regina Patterson reported on upcoming prayer events. May is National Day of Prayer is on May 5, this will be a month long emphasis. Also, the first Sunday is May is Senior Adult Sunday. 9/10/16 Will be the Ladies Prayer Breakfast from 9:00 until noon. Properties: John Sornberger reported we will be meeting with the other churches using our facilities. Zion church replaced the carpet in one of the Sunday School rooms using carpet tiles at a cost of $200. It is possible we will purchase the material and Zion will do the work for replacement of the foyer carpet. Sac-Metro will be here again in February. Before February we must check all areas. Sunday School: Dorothy has compiled the S.S. annual report (see Agenda for Annual Meeting). Debbie Compton agreed. Trustees: James Chambers inquired if the sexual harassment policy is still in place. The sexual harassment policy is in place and we have an insurance rider. VBS: No report. Website: Don Beireis reported our vender Clover has updated the website and is now more user friendly. There is more to do. More graphics. Lots more content. Don asked if you have changes or updates send an email or a text. James chambers: The question was asked if there are photos of AWANA kids? There are no photos of kids that releases have not been signed for. The on-line giving site is set up. Comment section is set up. Prayer and praise sections are set up. It is all active. Youth: No youth report Other Business: Pastor Tom reported that Franklin Graham will be in Sacramento with his Decision tour on 3/31/16. There are three levels of participation. We need to decide how involved we want to be. It was agreed the church will attend this event but not be involved with helping the Graham team. Debbie Compton reported on the Pricilla Schriver simulcasts that the church will be hosting. Lifeway has two other churches posted (not in the area) but our church has not been added to their website as a host church as of this meeting. Fees have been paid and our church needs to be included on the Lifeway website. The date is 4/23/16 at a cost of $20 per person. We need 30 tickets sold to break even; if we have 60 we will make money and can apply it to future events. We have a license for 30 days to show it. Pastor Tom reminded everyone to respect Dorothy s desk and work space. Becky Simonds has asked if it is possible for the church to do a financial seminar. The BAC will arrange a financial seminar for the church members. Pastor Tom advised the church purchased The Family Project, a 12-week study on the family this will be a summer study that will begin after Awanas concludes. Page 3 of 5
Pastor Tom shared a church growth program called Friend Day. This is a nine-week program that includes four Sunday school lessons. Our Director of Missions, Dennis said West Roseville had good success with this program. Calendar: Noted Joanne Sparkle requested the use of the campus for a memorial service for a family member (granddaughter s Aunt). The date is January 23.
