TODAY S THEME Pay attention! Christ may appear at any time. God s silence will end, bringing dramatic signs of God s presence in our midst. Watching, waiting, waiting, staying alert, and paying attention are the themes of this Sunday and of Advent in general. In Advent, we are reminded that Christ is coming, but also that God is already with us, having appeared in the birth of the Christ-child. Paul reminds the Corinthians that they have already been made rich through Christ. They have every gift they need and are simply to wait for the Lord. Pay attention! God is working to form us in God s image, and to form this world into Christ s kingdom. Today s scriptures invite us to take the time to see the signs and accept the grace that is already transforming our lives. SPECIAL HOLIDAY SERVICES Sunday, December 10, 2017, during the regular worship service, our music department will present RING THE BELLS, a delightfully different Christmas Cantata. The theme comes from the moving gospel song Ring the Bells. It tells the story of the first Christmas in a warm and personal way. The miracle that God became man in the person of Jesus Christ is the greatest concept any human being can understand. The blessing of this miracle will be presented in vocal and instrumental music by the musicians (choir, Bell choir, soloists, and accompanists) of our church and community. December s fellowship lunch will be after the worship service on December 10. Please bring a dish to share and enjoy visiting with your friends and neighbors of Prospect. Santa will stop by to see the children of all ages. This is an exciting time of year when we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Birthday cake will still be on the last Sunday of December with no luncheon. MARK YOUR CALENDARS - DECEMBER 18, 2017 A group will be going to the Chester United Methodist Church is Chester, VA for an outstanding Christmas Cantata. Two of our "weekend members" Cheryl and Charles Green are members of this choir and for the past several years we have taken a group up for the performance. It is a trip you will thoroughly enjoy. We will leave church at 4:00 pm. (by bus and by individual cars if more transportation is needed) and will have dinner before going to the church. We normally get back to the church about 10:00-10:30 p.m. There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall. If you plan to go, please sign up so we will have an idea of how many are going as we will need to make dinner and travel arrangements. The Christmas Eve Candlelight Service will begin at 8:00 p.m. There will be singing of Christmas hymns, scripture readings, a message, Communion and lighting of the candles. This is a busy season so take time to come to worship our Savior who came as a little baby to save us from our sins. HE always has time for us. Merry Christmas.
