The Tower October 2018 Dear St. John s Family, It is with great excitement and pleasure for the Vestry to welcome the Reverend Patrick Greene as the new Rector for St. John s effective November 1, 2018, so please join Reverend Greene at his first service on Sunday, November 4th. You all should have received a letter from the Vestry with regards to the announcement. I also was at church on Sunday, September 16th, letting the congregation know the news. On that same Sunday, the Discernment Team chaired a forum that shared their journey in finding Reverend Greene. If you go to the St. John s website and click on the Rector Search Completed picture, you can see the Discernment Team s PowerPoint presentation. Reverend Greene brings experience, warmth and knowledge to St. John s and after approximately five years as the Rector of Saints Matthew & Mark Episcopal Church in Barrington, he has been called to lead St. John s. Briefly, Reverend Greene graduated from URI with a BA degree in 2006. Reverend Greene then attended the Virginia Theological Seminary (Alexandria, VA) and received his Masters in Divinity in 2010. Reverend Greene resides in Barrington with his wife and two small children. The Vestry would like to thank the Communications Team for being the glue throughout this entire process and the Discernment Team for their prayerful and exhaustive work. The Portfolio Team for gathering all the information and surveys from the parishioners and all parishioners for their input on those surveys and at forums, as well as your patience in letting the process naturally unfold. Of course to our staff for their support both pre and post transition and to Fr. Bill Locke for his interim ministry, calm and guidance throughout the process. Lastly, for anyone looking to be on a Welcome Team that will help assimilate our new Rector to our parish community, please reach out to either the office staff or me. There have been a lot of changes at St. John s over the last year and half, so again, we are so excited and ready for the leadership Reverend Patrick Greene with all of our spiritual journeys. Sincerely: Louis Massa, Senior Warden

COMMISSION ON OUTREACH St. John s Church Art Gallery Our next showing will be by Daniel DuBois : Monoprints, Woodcuts and Etchings from October 1 through November 24 Please join us for a reception on Friday October 5, from 5-7pm. Dan will exhibit works selected from several series of abstract prints including, monoprints, woodcuts and etchings. The improvisational monoprints were created with oil-based inks, collaged appliques and powdered pigments. They are images of spaces in a sort of genesis, often with personages in implied relationship. These are playful images in a primordial becoming and/or visual metaphors of experience. The woodcuts and some of the etchings continue an interest in physical process and improvisation through the use of automatic drawing and a focus on line, shape, color and texture. 5

COMMISSION ON OUTREACH Altar Flowers Each Sunday, the beautiful bouguets on the altar are delivered to parishioners who are unable to attend church that day, or may be celebrating a special anniversary or birthday.
