Health, wellness, incredible workshops, good people, excellent food and relaxation! Sasamat Outdoor Centre s Women s Weekend 2017 is an all inclusive health and wellness retreat. Bringing together women from the Lower Mainland, this weekend will feature an array of workshops picked especially for women. Women s Weekend is a dynamic program centered on improving your sense of well-being. This rejuvenating getaway will feature workshops for the mind, body and natural environment. It will feature local talent in the forms of painting, yoga, horticultural therapy, meditation and naturopathy. It will also provide fantastic freshly prepared meals in our beautiful lodge, and a great opportunity to socialize with new people. Whether it s reading a book with a coffee on the dock, or challenging yourself on the climbing wall, we can make it a weekend to remember. Samantha is a singing teacher at Simusique Studio located in Coquitlam, and a choir member in the Coastal Sound Youth Choir. Sam is a singer songwriter in Vancouver, and long time Sasamat staff member. The Camping Kitchen Location: Side Porch By Samantha Dowdell An introduction to campfire (or camp stove) cooking favourites. Cooking can be hard when you find yourself less a kitchen and the culinary tools we are accustomed to. Come learn how to prepare backcountry recipes on a camping stove or over the fire, and enjoy a taste of some notable favourites! Warm campfire ambiance will be supplied. Medicinal Herbs for First Aid & Home Remedies Location: Cedar Room By Katolen Yardley Katolen, MNIMH, is a medical herbalist in private practice for over 17 years. She teaches herbal medicine internationally, and is a faculty member of Dominion Herbal College and Boucher Institute. An introduction of some local medicinal plants, become familiar with preparing herbal teas, herbal vinegars and learn fun and effective ways to use herbs at home for general first aid. Bring a tea cup and spoon for some experimental learning. Peaceful Paddling Location: Beach By Amelia Frame Come join for an introductory canoeing workshop. Learn the strokes, safety and finesse that is all part of paddling a canoe. Already an excellent paddler? No problem, come improve your technique or simply enjoy a leisurely paddle on beautiful Sasamat Lake. Amelia has a passion for the outdoors and the natural world. She holds an Outdoor Recreation Diploma from Capilano University and works at Surrey Nature Centre. She is a certified RCABC Canoe Instructor.
Kimberly is a professional artist and popular art instructor who is passionate about painting and helping others express themselves creatively. She is known for her ability to push her creative limits & inspire! Gestural Florals Location: Side Porch By Kimberly Blackstock Create your own dreamy floral painting! Blackstock will show you how to create expressive, gestural flowers in acrylic paint. The emphasis will be on letting your creativity take over while injecting your work with quick, energetic, loose brushstrokes. You will be shown some basic painting skills while being encouraged to have fun, be spontaneous and inject some personality into your painting. Meditation...Infused With Colour! Location: Wallace Room By Rosanne Howe Rosanne has been facilitating meditation workshops for over thirty years. Her multispiritual path has given her a diversity of tools that she enjoys to share with others through the art of the guided meditation. Come find your inner bliss! Rosanne will guide you through a meditation workshop infused with colour to inspire focus and relaxation. Meditation can mean many things and be interpreted or practiced in countless ways. Come learn about this spiritual and healing practice, and gain new perspective into yourself and the role meditation can play in your life. Kristen is SOC s Program Director. She brings twelve years experience of outdoor leadership. She is passionate about connecting with others through dynamic programs to help them reach their potential! The Leap of Faith (featuring SOC s high ropes course) Location: High Ropes Course By Kristen Hyodo Come conquer your fears, feel exhilarated and support others to reach new heights on the high ropes course with Kristen. Learn about the techniques of climbing a high ropes course as well as being ground support to help others. We will finish the workshop with an interactive debriefing activity to process the whole experience.
Elizabeth is a Colombian girl that breathes music, loves dancing and is passionate for fitness. She is a license Zumba instructor and Fitness Instructor Specialist. The Salsa Pulse! Location: Helm Lodge By Elizabeth Leon Come shake up your evening with Elizabeth and some spicy salsa! Elizabeth will lead all in an exhilarating dance social, with the ultimate goal of having fun and dancing up a storm! Elizabeth has always believed in the importance of staying healthy, and when she discovered Zumba, she saw that it combines all the elements of fitness she loves. Come join Elizabeth for an hour of fun and dance, good times guaranteed! Yoga Classes Location: Wallace Room By Karen Anderson Karen has been a dedicated yoga teacher for 8 years. Through yoga, breathing and meditation she seeks to empower people with to find freedom and ease in the body and steadiness in the mind. Sunrise Flow (Saturday 7:30am): A multi-level dynamic class to open up the body and energize the mind for your weekend. You will be clearly instructed through breathing exercises, yoga postures (with variations to chose from) and a guided relaxation to end the class. Therapeutic Flow and Deep Stretching (Saturday 8:00pm): You will be guided into gentle movements to balance your body from the day s activities, and prepare for a good sleep. After a series of yoga exercises to open the joints and muscles, we will wind down into a series of supported stretches. Mindfulness Meditation and Yoga (Sunday 7:30am): You will begin with breathing exercises, followed by yoga postures and movement, to wake up the body. You will then be guided in a mindfulness meditation, to bring steadiness and clarity of mind. Suitable for anyone whether you are new to meditation (and yoga) or experienced. Ashley is a tiny package with an enormous love for life. She is a Masters gardener, community support worker, writer and artist with a mission of encouraging people to find their joyful childlike wonder. Succulent Soul Space Exploring Inner Wisdom through Nature s Reflection Location: Cedar Room By Ashley Fouillard This workshop is all about connecting: to the self, others and nature. Ashley will share some awe-inspiring fun facts about nature s intelligence and also invite you to explore your own inner guidance in nature, collecting items for a collaborative art piece. You will also have the opportunity to bring life to your personal soul space by creating and decorating your own succulent kokedama or plant pot.
Britnee recently completed her degree for Child and Youth Care counseling, joined SOC as a senior Coordinator. She works with Abbortsford Youth Commission and is passionate about helping others. Pay It Forward - Knitting Hope and Happiness Location: Wallace Room By Britnee Roberts Come join Britnee to knit up a storm for a worthy cause. We, as humans are programmed to feel great inside when we do good for others, so why not weave that into your weekend. This workshop will teach you how to knit, with the ultimate goal of creating a face cloth or baby s hat for the Vancouver Rape Relief and Women s Shelter. These beautiful hand made items will be donated to new moms heading out to start a home with their brand new baby. Kindred Kayaking Location: Cedar Room By TBA TBA Come join for a tour of Sasamat Lake from the best view possible,from inside a kayak! Brush up on your kayaking skills and enjoy the peaceful sounds of water moving alongside your kayak as you slice through the lake. Local flora and fauna will be shared, as well as good conversation and company.
