History of the olumbian Exchange The olumbian Exchange greatly affected almost every society on Earth. New diseases introduced by Europeans devastated the populations of many American cultures because the indigenous peoples had no immunity. The contact between the two areas circulated a wide variety of new crops and livestock which supported future population increases in both hemispheres. Global Trade During the Ming Dynasty of hina Prior to the 1400s, hinese overseas trade consisted mainly of private merchants and small diplomatic missions. In 1405, leaders of the Ming Dynasty initiated construction of thousands of ocean going ships for official trading voyages.
