Prelude Power of the Cross Getty/Townend WELCOME P: Christ is risen! C: He is risen indeed! Please stand THANKSGIVING FOR BAPTISM P: Just as God s work of creation never ends, so the gifts received in baptism are renewed every day. P: We give you thanks, O God, for the waters of life: for water to bathe in, water to drink, for waters to play in and waters that inspire wonder, for water that gives life to our planet. C: We give you thanks, O God, for the waters of life. P: We give you thanks, O God for the waters of this place: for water from the rivers and aquifers, snow and rain. C: We give you thanks, O God, for the waters of this place. P: We give you thanks for your salvation through water: for delivering Noah and his family through the floodwaters, for leading your people Israel through the sea into freedom, for preserving your prophet Elijah through the time of drought, for quenching the Samaritan woman s thirst with living water. C: We give you thanks for your salvation through water. P: We give you thanks for the life of all the baptized, and for all who gather here; for baptismal sponsors, for children and grandchildren, for our brothers and sisters in Christ whom we have never seen but to whom we are bound. 1

C: We give you thanks for the life of all the baptized. P: We give you thanks for life in Christ through your Holy Spirit: for our entry into Jesus death through these waters of baptism, for our new birth into a life of freedom and service, for our calling to be your people, sent out for the life of the world. C: We give you thanks, blessed and holy Trinity, now and forever. Amen GATHERING HYMN Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us ELW #789 Text: attr. Dorothy A. Thrupp, 1779-1847, Music: William B. PRAYER OF THE DAY L: Let us pray, O God our shepherd, you know your sheep by name and lead us to safety through the valleys of death. Guide us by your voice, that we may walk in certainty and security to the joyous feast prepared in your house, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C: Amen. WORD A Reading from the Twenty-third Psalm L: 1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters; 3 he restores my soul. He leads me in right paths for his name's sake. 4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD my whole life long. (Psalm 23) 4

L: Word of God. Word of Life. C: Thanks be to God. 8:45 ANTHEM This is My Father s World Babcock/Strite Chancel Choir Please stand for the reading of theggospel P: The Holy Gospel according to St. John P: 1 Very truly, I tell you, anyone who does not enter the sheepfold by the gate but climbs in by another way is a thief and a bandit. 2 The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep hear his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. 5 They will not follow a stranger, but they will run from him because they do not know the voice of strangers." 6 Jesus used this figure of speech with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them. 7 So again Jesus said to them, "Very truly, I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. 8 All who came before me are thieves and bandits; but the sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the gate. Whoever enters by me will be saved, and will come in and go out and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. (John 10:1-10) P: This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to you O Christ. 5

6:00 HOLY BAPTISM CALLIE NOELLE SAYER JEREMY EUGENE SAYER INTRODUCTION Pastor: In Holy Baptism our gracious heavenly Father liberates us from sin and death by joining us to the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are born children of a fallen humanity; in the waters of Baptism we are reborn children of God and inheritors of eternal life. By water and the Holy Spirit we are made members of the Church which is the body of Christ. As we live with him and with his people, we grow in faith, love, and obedience to the will of God. PRESENTATION Pastor: Who presents Callie for Holy Baptism? Sponsors: We present Callie Noelle Sayer to receive the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. Pastor: Who presents Jeremy for Holy Baptism? Sponsor: I present Jeremy Eugene Sayer to receive the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. Pastor: Jeremy Eugene Sayer, called by the Holy Spirit, trusting in the grace and love of God, do you desire to be baptized into Christ? Response: I do. Pastor: In Christian love you have presented Callie for Holy Baptism. You should, therefore, faithfully bring her to church to worship and praise God, teach her the Lord s Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments, and show her how much Jesus loves her. As she grows in years, you should place in her hands the Holy Bible and provide for her instruction in the Christian faith, that, living in the promise of her Baptism and in unity with the church, she may lead a godly life. 7

Pastor: Will you fulfill these promises? Parents/Sponsors: We will. PROFESSION Pastor: Let us profess the faith in which we baptize today: Congregation: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen BAPTISM Pastor: Callie Noelle Sayer is baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen Pastor: Jeremy Eugene Sayer is baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen LAYING ON OF HANDS Pastor: God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we give you thanks for freeing your sons and daughters from the power of sin and for raising them up to a new life through this holy sacrament. Pour your Holy Spirit upon Callie and Jeremy, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord, the spirit of joy in your presence. Amen 8

SIGNING WITH THE CROSS Pastor: Callie Noelle child of God, you have been sealed by the Holy Spirit and marked with the cross of Christ forever. Amen Pastor: Jeremy Eugene child of God, you have been sealed by the Holy Spirit and marked with the cross of Christ forever. Amen PRESENTATION OF THE GIFTS PRAYER FOR PARENTS Pastor: O God, the giver of all life, look with kindness upon Jeremy and Brandi. Let them ever rejoice in the gift you have given them. Make them teachers and examples of righteousness for their children. Strengthen them in their own Baptism so they may share eternally with their children the salvation you have given them, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen WELCOME Pastor: Members of First Lutheran, you have witnessed the Baptism of Callie and Jeremy. Will you pray for them and share your faith with them? Will you remind them that they belong to Christ and that as Christ s people we all belong to each other? Congregation: We will. Pastor: Then, welcome your new sister and brother in the name of Jesus. Congregation: We welcome you into the body of Christ and into the mission we share: join us in giving thanks and praise to God and bearing God s creative and redeeming word to all the world. 9

8:45 APOSTLES CREED L: Let us profess the faith in which we baptize today: C: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION P: Rejoicing in the risen life of Christ, let us pray for the church, the world, and all who are in need. THANKSGIVING AT THE TABLE P: Holy God, you alone are holy, you alone are God. The universe declares your praise: beyond the stars; beneath the sea; within each cell; with every breath. C: We praise you, O God. P: Generations bless your faithfulness: through the water; by night and day; across the wilderness; out of exile; into the future. C: We bless you, O God. P: We give you thanks for your dear Son: at the heart of human life; near to those who suffer; beside the sinner; among the poor; with us now. C: We thank you, O God. P: In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me. Remembering his love for us on the way, at the table, and to the end, we proclaim the mystery of faith: C: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. P: We pray for the gift of your Spirit: in our gathering; within this meal; among your people, throughout the world. Blessing, praise, and thanks to you, holy God, through Christ Jesus, by your Spirit, in your church, without end. C: Amen 13

THE LORD S PRAYER P: Lord, remember us in your kingdom and teach us to pray: C: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen INVITATION TO COMMUNION P: Everyone is invited and encouraged to come and share in this gift of love. Please let the Communion Assistant know if you want grape juice or a glutenfree wafer. Welcome to Christ s table, the gifts of God for the people of God. Please be seated Lamb of God 14
