Contemporary Worship Leader Job Posting Aldersgate York is looking for a part-time worship leader with a passion for praising Jesus through song in our contemporary services. The ideal candidate should have strong vocal and instrumental skills; be experienced leading a praise team and congregational worship; and have the administrative skills necessary to plan setlists that complement the worship theme, update EZWorship software, and coordinate with ministry and media teams. Aldersgate is excited to be undertaking the Growing Effective Churches process for refocusing our efforts and resources on making new disciples as we strive to Know, Live, and Share Jesus. Every aspect of how we do church is currently being examined under the guidance of trained consultants to help us do it more effectively for the sole purpose of kingdom building. Updated 7/9/18 POSITION TITLE: Contemporary Worship Leader exempt x non-exempt salaried x hourly contractual All staff positions at Aldersgate United Methodist Church fall under three primary areas or teams: WORSHIP The worship team creates a unique multi-sensory and well executed worship experience for each of the services at Aldersgate Church. MINISTRY The ministry team seeks to provide an array of connectional ministries that foster individual spirituality as well as corporate fellowship and missional/evangelistic outreach as we seek to KNOW, LIVE, and SHARE JESUS. OPERATIONS The operations team attends to the administrative business and operations functions of Aldersgate Church that support worship and ministry. The contemporary worship leader serves on the worship team under the director of worship as the team leader. The position is hourly, not to exceed 20 hours per week. The contemporary worship leader collaborates with the director of worship on the order of worship and selection of praise music to be rehearsed and performed each week. The worship leader calls the congregation to praise and worship at each contemporary service, leading the musical selections, and prayer as further detailed here: (1) REHEARSING: Selecting the praise music to be performed at each service that is in keeping with the worship theme; rehearsing the music weekly with the praise team; communicating needs of the praise team with the sound and media teams; being a leader during rehearsals that nurtures the volunteers serving on the praise team and the sound and media teams; identifying and encouraging members to grow and new volunteers to serve; and ensuring that EZ Worship (software) is prepared and staffed. (2) LEADING WORSHIP: Responsible for ensuring all instruments and sound equipment are in place prior to each contemporary worship service. The worship leader calls the congregation to praise and worship at each of the contemporary services and leads the praise team and congregation in the musical selections and prayer to prepare their hearts for worship. The contemporary worship leader should seek to expand music and performance opportunities for members of the congregation in collaboration with the director of worship. Responsible for ensuring all instruments and sound equipment are in place and staffed prior to each contemporary worship service. The contemporary worship leader shall keep the primary focus of ministries under his/her supervision outward one of attracting new people to worship and making new disciples rather than inwardly focused. GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS A high level of musical excellence and experience is expected that embraces both traditional and contemporary musical instruments and arrangements but specializes in leading contemporary style here at Aldersgate. As a leader, it is expected that this position will minimize any tendency for the different styles

Experience opening and leading contemporary praise and worship services through a call to praise and worship, leading the musical selections, and prayer. Experience in leading a professionally orchestrated service that is evident of all participants being prepared and still allows authenticity. Must also have the ability to deal with the sudden unexpected glitches that inevitably occur and model a clear understanding of the difference between important and critical.
