W elcome! Thank you for joining us for worship this morning. In our service we gather before our almighty God to offer him our worship and praise. We also gather to strengthen ourselves through our study of God s holy and powerful Word. Restrooms are located in the gathering area near the entrance to the sanctuary and also towards the rear of the fellowship area, just past the kitchen, on the left hand side. If you have need of a cry-room, there is a children s room immediately to the left as you exit the sanctuary. A speaker there allows you to hear the service. Large print service folders are available. Please speak to an usher. Please remember to turn off your cell phone before the start of the service. Thank you! If your family needs to bring food or drink for worship, please choose things that won t stain if spilled. Thank you. Service of the Word God promises to work through his Word. He says y Word will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. (Is 55:11) This morning s order of service, more than the others we use, focuses simply on hearing the Word of God. Throughout the service today marks parts spoken by the inister marks parts spoken by the ongregation Page 2

We Hear God s Word Old Testament Reading Jeremiah 11:18-20 The LORD revealed their plot to me so I became aware of it. He showed me what they were doing. 19 I was like a gentle lamb led to the slaughter. I had not realized that they had plotted against me. They were saying: Let us destroy the tree along with its fruit. Let us cut him off from the land of the living, so that his name will no longer be remembered. 20 But, LORD of Armies, you judge righteously. You test the heart and mind. Let me see your vengeance on them, for I have presented my case to you. Psalm Sung from page 77 in the front part of the hymnal. Psalm 31 Page 5
Epistle Reading James 3:13 18 Who among you is wise and intelligent? Let him by his good way of living show that he does things in wise humility. 14 But if you have bitter envy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not boast and lie, contrary to the truth. 15 This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but it is worldly, unspiritual, and demonic. 16 In fact, where there is envy and selfish ambition, there will also be disorder and every bad practice. 17 But the wisdom that comes from above is first pure, then also peaceful, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial, and sincere. 18 And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who practice peace. Verse of the Day 2 orinthians 12:9a Alleluia. y grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Alleluia. Page 6
The Gospel The Gospel according to ark chapter 9. Glory be to you, O Lord! ark 9:30 37 They went on from there and passed through Galilee. He did not want anyone to know this, 31 because he was teaching his disciples. He told them, The Son of an is going to be betrayed into the hands of men, and they will kill him. But three days after he is killed, he will rise. 32 But they did not understand the statement and were afraid to ask him about it. 33 They came to apernaum. When he was in the house, he asked them, What were you arguing about on the way? 34 But they remained silent, because on the way they had argued with one another about who was the greatest. 35 Jesus sat down, called the Twelve, and said to them, If anyone wants to be first, he will be the last of all and the servant of all. 36 Then he took a little child and placed him in their midst. Taking the child in his arms, he said to them, 37 Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me. And whoever welcomes me, welcomes not just me but also him who sent me. This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise be to you, O hrist! hildren s Sermon Hymn 486 Lord of Glory, You Have Bought Us Sermon ark 9:30 37 What does greatness look like? Page 7
We Respond in Faith onfession of Faith The Apostles reed I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus hrist, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin ary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy hristian hurch, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
