News & Notes September 30, 2018 Welcome! We re glad you re here today. If you are new to Messiah, please stop by the Welcome Center in the Gathering Space for your gift. Good Stuff to Know: The Welcome Center is located right outside the Worship Center. Feel free to ask the volunteer any questions you may have or pick up some information on Messiah. Restrooms are on the south side of the Gathering Space in the coat rack area. If you would like to receive Holy Communion and are unable to approach the Altar area, please talk to an usher before the service. Difficulty Hearing? We have hearing impaired assistance available at the Welcome Center. For Those with Children: Busy Bags are filled with quiet activities for your children to use during the service. They can be found in the entryway of the Gathering Space. Children s Sermon: During the 8:45 and 11:00 a.m. services there is a Children s Sermon where all children are invited to come up. If your child doesn t want to come up alone, please feel free to come up and sit with them or sit in the front pew. Family Restroom: A family restroom is located by the coat racks across from the women s restroom. The Nursery is available for parents and their children three years of age and younger and is located in the hallway across from the rear of the Sanctuary. Sunday School: Sunday School is available downstairs for ages 3 through 5 th Grade. If you would like directions, stop by the Welcome Center. Middle School and Senior High Youth: Meets across the street at Luther Hall during the education hour. Blue Cards: Whether you are a long-time member or a first-time visitor, please be sure to fill out one of the blue cards found in this folder. Please give the card to the ushers/acolytes during the offering. Gluten Free Wafers: So those with gluten allergies or Celiac Disease can fully partake in communion, we have individual wrapped gluten free wafers. If you would like a gluten free wafer, ask the person distributing the wafers when you approach. Disclaimer: The wafers are certified gluten free and are individually sealed, however, some gluten may be on the wrappers due to being in the proximity of gluten wafers. ( 1 )

Members of Messiah Thank you so much for the gift and cake reception honoring my 20 years of service here at Messiah. Thank you also for the many personal cards and gifts I received. It was a wonderful morning to celebrate the Creator who has allowed me to be here the past 20 years!! Praise God from whom all blessings flow!! THANK YOU to the eighteen golfers, fourteen foot golfers, hole sponsors, and donors that made the golf event a success. The weather was perfect! Proceeds of $954 have been added to the carpet fund. MESSIAH SENIORS WILL BE MEETING ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 3, 1:00 P.M. AT Elva Besel s home (7735 Silver Lake Road, #218, Mounds View). Those who set up and torn down the tents, tables and chairs, food servers and grilles, all who helped supply food items and Journey Bag items and all who helped with the games. Thanks so much to everyone - we couldn't do it without you! Rally Day Committee: Allison, Annie and Dayle A MESSIAH FAMILY has experienced a devastating house fire. The office at church is accepting gift cards for meals and other areas like Target, Kohls, etc. If you would like to donate a gift card, please drop it off at the church office or give it to a church staff member. We will be sure to forward them immediately to the family. Thank you! XYZ -Please sign up today for the Bell Museum tour. They are very insistent about a number by Monday. HELP RESTOCK THE KITCHEN - The kitchen is in need of some new tools. Please join us on Sunday, October 28th at 12:15 for a Pampered Chef kitchen show. You may purchase items from a wish list, or you may purchase an item for yourself which will give Messiah credit for free tools. Orders may be placed without coming to a show. If you have any questions, please contact Cindy 651-402-0399. COOKIES-COOKIES-COOKIES We need lots of cookies for the Cookie Parade at the Bazaar. The people line up early and buy MANY Cookies which makes it one of the best features of our Bazaar. You can sign up to make one or more batches of the cookies listed on the Bulletin Board by the elevator. Then you bake them and bring them on Friday, November 2nd (the day before the Bazaar) and know that you will make many people happy and the Bazaar very successful!! JOHN S HERITAGE BIBLE will be held at Benedictine Health Center (1101 Black Oak Drive, New Brighton) on the following Sundays:
Sept. 30 and Oct. 7, from 1-4 PM. The Bible is comprised of seven volumes and has over 160 illuminations by Master Scribe, Donald Jackson. REMINDER- Prayer shawls, walker bags, chemo hats and kids fleece blankets are for you to give to others who would be blessed by a gift of comfort. Gift bags are available too. If you have a neighbor, a friend, a shut in, or someone who is sick please feel free to take one as a gift. Please stop at the display area and check it out. The prayer shawl ministry team asks you to help us bless others!! ALL WOMEN OF MESSIAH join us for a fun, busy evening on Tues., Oct. 7 at 5:30 for potluck dinner and social time, a short meeting at 6:30 followed by making a craft, tying a blanket and wrapping shoeboxes for OCC. Need Christmas paper, tape and scissors. Bring a friend. OUR FURRY FRIENDS The Kids of Service are going to visit the Animal Humane Society on Oct. 10. We will accept donations of newspapers, CLEAN long socks (to be made into dog toys), tennis balls, and fleece material. Do have a Styrofoam cooler you don t need? We will take that too All families are invited to the tour on the 10th! BAZAAR is only 34 days away, but it's not too late to start on those craft projects. Are you cleaning out your closets and basement? Don't forget to save your wonderful "stuff" that others would love to buy at Grandma's Attic on November 3. MESSIAH BOOK CLUB'S SELECTION for October is "The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down" by Anne Fadiman. It is the story of a Hmong child, her American doctors, and the collision of two cultures. The book is available at the local libraries. Join us on Thurs., Oct. 18 th at 2:00 pm in the Cross Roads. TRUNK OR TREAT (Date: Sunday, October 28th Time:4:00-6:00 pm) Time to start thinking about your trunk design - sign up sheet is posted on the bulletin board by the elevator!
