There is a movement in our nation to legalize assisted suicide, but that is a false answer and is a dangerous experiment. Our Church offers comfort and practical guidance to live and die with dignity. Visit www.catholicendoflife.org to watch the video and read the New York State Bishops document Now and at the Hour of Our Death. Learn why the Church favors compassionate medical care, and why the Church opposes physician-assisted suicide. Adoption - Children in China need homes. More boys available than girls. Older parents and single women welcome. For more information please call Barbara Salvesen at 845-623-5277. St. Ann s Parish 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time July 2, 2017 We are privileged at St. Ann s to have the assistance of many good young altar servers at Sunday Mass. When I was a boy, nothing happened on Sunday but going to Mass and staying home with your family for the rest of the day. Serving Sunday Mass, therefore, was never a problem. The family would attend whichever Mass I had to serve, and the rest of the day was ours. Today that is not so. Sadly, sports programs have moved to Sunday mornings, and people now even have birthday parties on Sundays! Of course, that means our servers often have to juggle their Mass obligation with their social and sports calendars, and it can be very difficult at times. This is especially true when the servers enter high school. For this reason I allow the high school servers to wear a surplice with a gold trim, so that people understand they are often making a special sacrifice to be faithful to their altar serving duty. We have many high school servers here at St. Ann s, and I m happy to see that many of them continue to serve through their senior year. This year, we are privileged to have three servers who have faithfully served Mass for us and have now graduated high school and are preparing for college this fall: Kyle Alotencio, Anthony Figura, and Declan Hogan. All three have been serving since they were in fifth grade. We celebrated their service by going to a Broadway show it was the least I could do to say thank you to them. I cannot tell you how proud I am of them. These are young men who I m sure will make St. Ann s very proud in their future. I m sure you join me in extending to them our most sincere thanks for their hard work and dedication and in wishing them every blessing in their future. Congratulations and Thank You, Kyle, Anthony, and Declan! Oppose Assisted Suicide Legislation has been introduced in New York State (the so-called Medical Aid in Dying Act, A.2383/ S.3151) that would allow doctors to legally prescribe a lethal dose of pills at the request of a terminally ill patient. While proponents call these death with dignity and patient self-determination, in reality they are unnecessary, flawed and dangerous. Legalizing assisted suicide would endanger elderly, disabled, and vulnerable people. It will send the message to others that suicide is acceptable and lead to an increase in suicides. It will leave people with depression and other mental illnesses untreated. And it will turn doctors and other health professionals from healers into killers. We encourage you to contact your state legislators and urge them to oppose assisted suicide legislation. Please inform yourself about the dangers in this bill by visiting : https://archny.org/assisted-suicide or https:// noassistedsuicideny.org/ St. Catharine Academy Summer TACHS Prep Program St. Catharine Academy s Higher Achievement Program (HAP) for 7th and 8th grade girls will be taking place from July 5th through July 21st from 9:00AM - 1:00PM. HAP will help to strengthen and reinforce English, Math and Reading skills for success in the Test for Admission into Catholic High Schools (TACHS). Your daughter will also have the opportunity to experience enrichment courses in Robotics and Art. Please visit our website: www.scahs.org or contact Ms. Tracy Keelin, Program Director at: 718-882-2882, ext. 122 for more information.
