REMEMBER GOOD SHEPHERD PARISH IN YOUR WILL 2017 BISHOP S ANNUAL LENTEN APPEAL This year s theme is I give you an example. Your gift to the Bishop s Annual Lenten Appeal extends your generosity beyond the parish to reach those in the larger diocesan family. Good Shepherd receives full credit for your gift. Once our goal has been reached, the parish receives all the over goal gifts for our own use. Next weekend, we will once again conduct the IN-PEW solicitation for the Lenten Appeal. Your generosity in helping us reach the goal and surpass it, is needed, and will be greatly appreciated. To those who have given before, we are grateful. To those who have not given before, please make this year your first gift to the Bishop s Annual Lenten Appeal. Everyone s help is needed. BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENINGS sponsored by the Good Shepherd Health Care Ministry, will take place next weekend, March 4 & 5, after the Saturday, 5:00 p.m., & Sunday, 7:30 a.m. Masses & between the 9:30 & 11:30 a.m. Masses in the Parish Hall. Please stop over. On Eucharistic Adoration Recently, the Good Shepherd community of faith started observing the monthly day of Eucharistic Adoration on every First Friday. Eucharistic Adoration, for a community of believers, is like that wellspring from which people draw water for nourishment and never runs dry. In adoration, we encounter our loving and merciful God who gives of Himself, body, blood, soul and divinity. He continuously makes a gift of Himself to us in the Real Presence. We only need to make ourselves present to receive the grace He is offering us in Eucharist Adoration. Our minds can be easily distracted and preoccupied with many things, but in His presence when we are in adoration, He helps free us from those worries of life that tend to occupy our minds and we experience that inner peace as He assures us that we are not alone. Being freed of those distractions helps us to be truly united with Him, He who is our strength and comfort in difficult moments of life. In adoration, God is not asking anything of us other than our presence. We need to learn to let go of all distractions and set a little time aside to be with Him who loves us so much that He only wants to have an encounter with us away from all that clutters up our daily lives. You need not know what to say or how to speak. The spirit of God within you knows your needs. You simply need to have the desire to be with Him and you will truly feel Him talk to you in a gentle voice, and experience His peace within. You need not be afraid of that inner silence and what it might reveal to you about yourself. Remember that tiny whispering sound that spoke to Elijah on Mount Horeb? (1Kgs. 19: 11-16) Well, God may be assuring you too that all shall be well. Just be still and know that He is God. (Ps. 46:10) Father Ben THE WORD AMONG US magazine is one great way to prepare for LENT and Easter. Copies are available free of charge in the Church narthexes. Please feel free to pick one up for your family. On Sunday, October 16, 2016,Pope Francis made this proclamation to the Church and the world. I invite you to join me on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, as we reflect on the great charism and gift her Canonization brings to us. Elizabeth delighted in the fact that God is not alone in His majesty but is a Community of Love: Three in a union which is all love, a love which surpasses all human understanding a God who created the human family to live within this Community of Love to draw near to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit so that we can be enkindled with the fire of the Spirit. That is something we so greatly need in our culture, our nation, our families today to be made capable of love. She would add, Live today to love. That was her whole agenda, her to-do-list for every day. She wanted to love God and others without interruption. What a great grace! What an awesome gift, to be the bearer of so much love in the world we touch each day! For this transformation to happen in us, she counseled: Let yourself be loved. All God wants of us is that we let Him love us and let His love rouse us to love Him in return. I hope you will join us on March 14. I am confident we will find ourselves so greatly enriched by her counsel and spiritual direction. With Elizabeth as guide we will look at Jesus attentively, lean on Him, bring our souls to Him, and let ourselves be carried by Him Father Jeremiah Shryock, C.F.R. on Tuesday, March 28, 2017: Morning Session: 9:00 a.m. 12:00 Noon & Evening Session: 7:00 9:00 p.m. Morning Session includes: Conference, Exposition of the Eucharist, Sacrament of Reconciliation, and Mass. Despite personal struggles and opposition, he forsook his former unfulfilling lifestyle in 2002 to join the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal. He is passionate about being a guide to those who are searching for God, the source of peace and happiness. To register for an event contact: Our Lady s Missionaries of the Eucharist, 640 E.
