29 TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME The parable Jesus tells today is about a judge who quite bored with the widow who kept coming and asking for justice, and didn t care about her one little bit. In the Hebrew Mediterranean culture women were not allowed to advocate for themselves. This woman who has lost her husband, her advocate, would have no legal means of recourse to any judge, and no worth in the eyes of society. This particular woman that Jesus tells us about would be seen quite differently in Jesus time would be seen as completely outcast, and completely desperate, and would have no one else to turn to and nothing to lose in harassing this judge.the only reason that she got what she asked for is that she was so persistent in her public advances to him, that he was afraid if he didn t give it to her, people would laugh at him. God, who is not unjust and bored and uncaring, will do even more for us, especially when our prayers are backed up by the feelings of the community of believers. When people are enduring great difficulties along with emotional and spiritual crises of various sorts you may have heard them say: I ve tried everything. Now the only thing left to do is to pray. It s as if praying is something to be done only as a last resort in times of trouble. Then, when all else has failed we, in desperation, turn to God and ask Him for a miracle. At first we try to solve problems on our own using our own judgments and powers. Some of our methods don t make much sense at all. Being persistent, constant, and untiring in prayer is important. God is untiring in trying to reach us, untiring in trying to come into our hearts. Time and again Jesus tells us that we should pray, pray a lot, pray often, and be untiring in turning to God.

SECOND COLLECTION THIS WEEKEND World Mission/Propagation of the Faith. OCTOBER - MONTH OF MARY The month of October is dedicated to Mary. Please join us to pray the rosary before all Masses. OCTOBER MASS ATTENDANCE COUNT For the 5 Sundays in October, every Catholic parish is required to take a count of the number of people attending each Mass. This is an important source of information when the Archdiocese plans and makes decisions about the future. BABY BOTTLES - BABY BOTTLE PROJECT October is Respect Life Month. We started with the Baby Bottle Project benefiting The Women s Centers of Greater Chicagoland. This nonprofit organization assists mothers and families experiencing crisis pregnancies by offering emotional, financial, material, and spiritual support through counseling, clothing, monetary provisions, prayer Please, take home a baby bottle and use it to collect any change you may have. When the bottle is full simply return it to the church. Please note the Baby Bottles cost almost $1 per bottle and are recycled afterwards so please return upon completion of the project. Thank you for helping defend life. CATHOLIC MOVIE AFTERNOON/NIGHT On Sunday, November 6, we will have an opportunity to see an excellent movie Of Gods and Men. This movie recounts the fate of a community of French Trappists living in Algeria during civil war in the 1990s. The monks had to decide whether to continue their medical and social work for the local population or abandon them by fleeing to safety. This movie is a profound mediation on the cost of discipleship. It is a viewing experience from which every adult as well as many mature teens can expect to profit. The Catholic News Service classification is A-III (adults). The The Motion Picture Association of America rating is PG-13 (parents strongly cautioned). Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13. Showings will start at 6 p.m. in our Upper Small Hall. Welcome.
