October 2015 Christ Chronicles SUNDAY SERVICES Two worship services every Sunday, 8:15am and 10:30am. SUNDAY SCHOOL Sundays at 9:15am for ages 3 through adult. PRAYERS Please keep the following in your prayers - Fred and Hedy Dennis, Diane Reichert read more Like us on Facebook X Christ Lutheran Church FROM THE PASTOR S DESK I received the following text from a church parent: My son just told me that he finds Jesus miracles hard to believe but then he heard about a chicken that lived for 18 days with it s head chopped off. So he guesses they are possible. I love the way kids see the world! Sometimes faith just seems easier for them. Faith can be a tricky thing. But sometimes it is the use of the word that causes us problems. The word Faith, when we see it used in the early writings of the New Testament, referred to a loving relationship with God in Christ Jesus. It wasn t about what you believed, but who you loved. Putting your faith in Jesus, that he loves us and that we love him, trusting that he is with us always to the end of the age. But this quickly changed. In the later writings of the New Testament we can already see the word Faith changing to mean right belief. It changes from Faith simply being a relationship with the risen Christ, to faith in doctrines and theologies. Our faith is not in a set of beliefs, it is faith in the One who died and was resurrected for us. Faith in the One who came to bring us into the Love of God. This is the faith that carries us through the struggles of life, the faith that brings joy, love and peace to our hearts and minds. Certainly theology can help us understand God, but faith in a theology or a set of beliefs cannot bring us love and hope. That is only found in Christ. Creation of A Funeral Expense Fund We are currently working to build a fund which will help families within our congregation with funeral expenses when either the life-insurance does not cover all the expenses, or a situation when there is no life-insurance. The fund will be called the Mike Rossi Fund in honor of one of our members. If you would like to donate toward this fund, please contact the church office, or make a donation to Christ Lutheran Church and note that it is for the Mike Rossi Fund. Losing a loved one is difficult experience. This fund will help us to support families who are already experiencing difficult times. Thank you for your support. 11

Volunteer Schedule - 8:15am Service Volunteer Schedule - 8:15am Service Volunteer Schedule - 8:15am Service back Volunteer Schedule - 8:15am Service Volunteer Schedule - 8:15am Service Volunteer Schedule - 8:15am Service Date Ushers Counters Acolyte Reader Guild From all of us; children, staff, helpers and ASP Board, we offer our sincerest thank you to all who donated snack items during our recent Thrivent supported fundraiser. With your generosity, we exceeded our goal of $250 dollars worth of donations, which qualified us for a Thrivent Match of $250. We have enough snacks to last to the end of December. Enrollment continues to grow. When the bus from L.B. Morris stops at Porter Rd. each afternoon, half of the children that get off come to the After-School Program. We now have three children from Penn-Kidder Campus and will be adding another very soon. We will need a minivan if the need continues to grow from Penn-Kidder Campus. So, if you know of anyone that has a minivan that they no longer need, please let us know. Please make your friends and neighbors aware of our Before-School Program. Working parents often have to leave the house before the bus comes. We are there each morning beginning at 6:00am to provide care and give them peace of mind that their child/children are safe. Through God s Grace, this Ministry is prospering. Again, thank you for your generosity. PKMASP 12

FAMILY PROMISE CLC HOST WEEK OCTOBER 25 31 Volunteers are the foundation of FAMILY PROMISE. There are many ways that you can help. Whether you provide a hot meal, arrange activities for the children, or stay overnight, you can make a difference in the lives of families who have suffered the ordeal of losing their home. The families we seek to help are receiving help beyond safe housing and warm meals. They are getting HELP for today and HOPE for the future. Please consider volunteering our next host week from October 25th to October 31st. Feel free to ask the volunteers about their experience during the host week or call Sally Mann at 570-732- 4015 or Betty Schaffrick at 570-325-2269. FAMILY PROMISE will be hosting an "Old Fashioned Fall Festival at the Weissport Canal on Saturday, October 10th and Sunday, October 11th from 12-4 each day. We are looking for a few volunteers to man a booth at the festival for a two hour shift. 13
