From Christmas In New England, Dusty and Rod McKuen. There are probably those who don't care for it but I actually love it, and Dusty has the most perfect timing ever. The whole video is rather strange and a bit stilted in places but still some worth having for the fact that Dusty appears so often. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzloh_md4jg 5404 Posts Carole x "Since you went away, I've been hanging around..." Thanks for this Matt. boztiggs Posted - 28/11/2007 : 19:35:37 Carole, I love it!!! Dusty appeared on Rod's show for the BBC in 1971 when they duetted together accompanied by Rod's big dog I don't have that clip but I have seen it and it's one of the most relaxed perfomances I've ever seen from Dusty. That show is also where the People Get Ready clip comes from. Rod was obviously very fond of Dusty and wrote some lovely about her on his site after she died (see below). He also dedicated one of his poems to her. 5404 Posts... AND DUSTY Another of Johnny s guests that week in 1970 was the inimitable Dusty Springfield. I d met Dusty years before on my first trip to London, she her brother Tom and Tim Field then comprised a country-folk trio called "The Springfield s." Now only a few years later we were big enough in our own rights to be guesting with Johnny Cash. What a heady time for both of us. After we finishing taping the Cash show, Dusty, Norma Tanega, Edward and I traveled back to LA together and had another week of craziness. We did the town, I showed her off to everyone, before she flew off to London and I headed out for a tour of Australia. Both vowing we d see each other soon and certainly work together again. Boy, did we. Of course these memories and so many others have crowded my head since Dusty s death from breast cancer last week. I have been trying to write some meaningful about our personal and professional friendship that has spanned four decades. It s been impossible. A letter about a TV show 29 years ago with Johnny & Dusty seems like yesterday. I ve played and replayed tapes of my British TV series where Dusty was a special guest and "The Christmas in New England" special we did together; listened to her marvelous recording of "If You Go Away" and "Simple Gifts" and especially the duets we did on various shows. And, I ve reread her letters and cables. So much of Dusty is there and so much is missing. In the end I ve put this task aside and will return to it another time. Dusty Springfield s talent and intelligence are way beyond emotion. And I m so filled with emotion and grief about Dusty s too short life, and the love she radiated during it, that this is neither the time or place for a proper and deserved eulogy. One of a kind, indeed. Irreplaceable, you bet.. I love you Dusty and I always will. - RM 3/10/99 Previously unpublished.

Watching it has somehow given me the strength to grade papers for the next 3 hours. I love the second half where she puts the moves on him. They have a chemistry like Rock Hudson and Doris Day. Brilliant. We have to remember that Rob was not really so much a singer as a composer and arranger of music. One of my very favourite movies is the Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (with Maggie Smith). On watching it again recently, I was surprised to realise that Rod McKuen was the person responsible for the musical arrangements--this was where his real talents lay. It's easy to see why a person with these talents thought so much of Dusty. xx mssdusty Posted - 29/11/2007 : 02:26:34 THANK YOU KATHY... MARY I only think of the day I met Dusty and my pains go away. I thought Dusty was extremely cute with the curly hair. Am I right about the airing time of this? 299 Posts Baby Blue Posted - 14/02/2008 : 03:09:34 I just came across these posts and I am very happy I did. Although I have heard Dusty and Rod McKueon sing "Baby It's Cold Outside" many times, this was the first I've seen this video and loved it! I always love seeing Dusty do any of these type of routines. As for Rod Kueon, I remember him quite well from the 60's and early 70's. He orignally was from California, but his fame came from New York City. He appeared in Carnegie Hall (several times I belive). He was known as a song writer, poet and singer. From what I recall much of his work related heavily into the Viet Nam War Era. 3185 Posts He also translated some of Jacque Brel's music from French into English. Hmmm... have to check if his name is on "If You Go Away", or even if he got credit for it. He also did concerts in South Africa and demanded that the audience be racially mixed. I don't think he had the same problems as Dusty, but it must have been a few later. If I can think of any else about him, I'll post more. Marty PS. Watching this video only once again made me wish Dusty did more Christmas music as a solo singer and not just with the Springfields. Baby Blue Posted - 14/02/2008 : 03:19:57 I just did checked, YES ROD MC KUEN DID TRANSLATE IF YOU GO AWAY/NE ME QUITTE PAS. Marty :)
