Dear AWANA Parent(s), I wanted to take just a moment to thank you for having your child(ren) participate in First Southern Baptist Church s AWANA Program. I am so excited about our AWANA year. I have no doubt God has many great things planned for our ministry this year. I also wanted to commend you for getting involved with AWANA. I have three grown children and all of them were involved in AWANA. The ministry was able to lay an amazing biblical foundation in each of their lives. To this day, they still know many verses they hid in their hearts years ago. I am so happy you have chosen to have your child(ren) involved in AWANA too. If you already have a home church, I would encourage you to continue there. Feel free to use our AWANA ministry as a supplement to your family ministry. If you do not have a church home you attend regularly or you are new to Salina, please accept this as your open invitation to worship with us on any Sunday morning. We have Bible Study every Sunday morning at 9:00 am. There is a class geared for every person in the family. At 10:30, we join together in worship of our great God and King. To help facilitate the worship of the parents, we do have a Kid s Worship service geared to your kids during our regular service. For more information, check out our website at www.fsbcsalina.com. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me. I will enclose my contact information below. It s going to be a great AWANA year. I have no doubt it will be a very rewarding time for you and your family. Each club will have its own incentive for students to reach the goal. Once the participation goal is reached, students will receive a reward. Since we are asking our student to be in uniform, we will also be asking our workers to either wear a club shirt, or an AWANA lanyard. This will help you be able to identify our workers and know who to ask questions if questions arise. Drop Off/Pick UP In order to create a safer environment for our AWANA club members, we ask that you follow the drop-off pick-up procedures outlined below. Please do not drop off before 6:05 pm and pick up is at 8:00pm Cubbies and Sparks will be signed in and out of the youth room. T & T Boys will be dropped off and picked up in the fellowship hall. T & T Girls will be dropped off and picked up in the choir room. Trek will be asked to report to the youth room and will be dismissed from there without a parental pick-up. Please use the doors facing Magnolia for drop off and pick up, as the other doors may be locked.
Game Time Game Time is a 30-minute period that promotes teamwork and fun competition. Game Time usually provides many teachable moments and helps the students improve their character in a competitive environment. Please have your child wear tennis shoes. Love Offering The first Wednesday night of each month is designated love offering night. All of the offering money collected goes directly to our AWANA missionary, Tyler O Donnell. Tyler and his wife Katie serve the AWANA clubs in Wichita and surrounding areas. The money that is collected goes directly to them for their use to help start new clubs, and offer support to clubs that need support. If you have any questions about Tyler or his ministry, you can e-mail him at tylero@awana.org. Wednesday Night Meals/Reservations/Cost We do serve meals on Wednesday night. The meal begins at 5:15. If you plan to bring your family for the meal, please call 785-823-6828 to make a reservation with the church office by noon on Monday. The cost of the meal is $5 for adult and youth, $3 for school age, $1 for preschool and under- $15 max per family. Cancellation Information In the event of inclement weather, we will use the FSBC Facebook page, email, Channel 12, and KSAL radio to notify you that AWANA is cancelled for the night. Discipline We use 3-count for discipline. A leader will forewarn the clubber that he/she is going to get a 3 count for whatever standard is being broken. If a student gets a 3 count in one night, the clubber will be placed with the commander for the evening. The commander will notify the parent/guardian of the behavior and the action that was taken by the club. The student will be welcomed back the next week to try again. If problems continue, a discipline plan will be put in place for the clubber. Reward Plan Each club will have their own reward/incentive plan that will be based on behavior, uniforms, books, and Bibles. Weekly Email If you are interested in receiving a weekly email for updates, please provide your email address. AWANA Cell Phone Policy For kids in Cubbies, Sparks, and T&T we ask parents to keep cell phones and tablets at home. If the child brings a cell phone or tablet we will check-in their phone in a secure location, and they can pick them up at the end of the night. Students in Trek can bring a cell phone or tablet unless they become a distraction. If you need your child during AWANA, please call the church office (785)823-6828. This phone will be manned on Wednesday nights.
Ages 3-5 Cubbies is the AWANA club for 3, 4, & 5 year olds. Your preschooler will hear a Bible story, play games, sing songs and do a craft all centered around the weeks Bible verse. Memorization is not stressed, however repetition and integration into the weekly activities is how your child will learn the truths of the Bible and the Good News of the Gospel. All Cubbies must be 3years old and potty-trained by August 31 st to enroll. We do have snacks each Wednesday Night, so please be looking for the sign-up sheet to help us out. Kindergarten-2nd Grade The Sparks section is quite a switch from Cubbies. Instead of the kids all doing the book together throughout the year they do it at their own pace. To get through the book it is recommended to try and learn two verses each week. Each Sparky will receive the Flight 3:16 Entrance Booklet their first week and will finish it the following week. After they have finished the booklet they will get their book for the year. First year Sparks will start in the green HangGlider book. If they get through it early in the year they will have time to go back and do the marked review verses. Once that is done and if enough time is left in the year, they will have an extra credit book, HangGlider Frequent Flyer, they can do. follow. Second year Sparks book is the blue WingRunner book, with the review and WingRunner Frequent Flyer book to Third year is the red SkyStormer book that is followed by review and the SkyStormer Frequent Flyer book. Generally Kindergartens are first year Sparks, but if a 1st or 2nd grader is starting for the first time they will still receive the HangGlider book. Once they have finished that book they will be given the second year book and so on to get caught up with their grade. In each book there are different sections to pass and once they do, they will receive a jewel or patch to put on their red vest. They will get the jewel the week after they have completed that section during closing ceremony. The back of their books shows where the jewel goes on the vest. Other awards for finishing the books will be given at the end of the year award ceremony.
3rd-6th Grade What is T&T? T&T is an acronym for Truth and Training. Students are separated into a club for boys and a club for girls. The T&T Club time is broken down into four periods, Game Time, Bible Verse Time, Small Group, and Large Group. Each period has a different goal that will keep the students learning and allow the students to enjoy the evening. Game Time is a 30 minute period that promotes teamwork, and fun competition. Game Time usually provides many teachable moments and helps the students improve their character in a competitive environment. Bible Verse Time is a 20 minute period that allows the students to memorize and recite scripture. Reciting Bible verses is the one of the main goals of AWANA and as the students work through the handbook the students will be rewarded for their accomplishments. Our hope is that the student will be equipped with scripture for the rest of their life. Small Group Time is a 20 minute period that allows students to work with a mentor to understand the handbook lesson and Bible passages. Understanding scripture is a huge part of T&T. Small Group Time is focused to allow mentors to pray and teach the Bible to groups of 4 to 6 students. The Bible is more than just a book it equips us for every day, trains us how to respond to the others and reveals God, so we can know and follow Jesus. Large Group Time is a 20 minute period that focuses the evening on the handbook lesson and Bible passage. During Large Group Time the entire T&T club is brought together to learn about the Bible. Typically the evening will have a theme such as, Jesus the Savior, God as Creator, or Grace in Action, and Large Group Time will highlight the theme and challenge the students to think how the Biblical Truth applies to their life on Wednesday and every other day. Prayer Request: Please pray that we teach the truth of Jesus gospel with courage and train the students to follow him. Please call or email if you have any questions or comments.
2018-2019 Agents of Grace- In this handbook T&T kids will explore some of the fundamental doctrines of Christianity! In these 32 lessons, they will spend time learning about the character and nature of God, the structure and sequence of the Bible, the redemption narrative, and key discipleship practices! Each section includes an introductory activity, a Bible study, a prayer section guiding them specifically how to pray for different countries in the world, and optional extra credit opportunities to dive deeper in their scripture memory and study of God s word. Kids will also be challenged to memorize the books of the Bible, and to bring a friend to their T&T club. 7th - 8th Grade The goal of Trek is to equip our young teens in the Gospel. Our group verse is 1 Timothy 4:12 Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity. The book we will be using this year is His Story. We begin with an opening to personalize the lesson. Then the lesson is taught and we go over how they filled in the questions in their book. We then divide up to recite the memory verse. Finally, we play a game.
