Like resetting an appliance or gadget to factory settings, God is looking to restore our soul to His originally purpose. Parts of this message are inspired by the book Healing the Wounded Soul by Katie Souza. Spirit, Soul, and Body We are created with a body, soul and spirit. Our spirit has been made new when we received Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21). Our soul needs to progressively be made new as we seek God. 1 Thess 5:23 TPT 23 Now, may the God of peace and harmony set you apart, making you completely holy. And may your entire being spirit, soul, and body be kept completely flawless in the appearing of our Lord Jesus, the Anointed One. Romans 12:2 AMP And do not be conformed to this world [any longer with its superficial values and customs], but be transformed and progressively changed [as you mature spiritually] by the renewing of your mind [focusing on godly values and ethical attitudes], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His plan and purpose for you]. As we are healed and renewed and progressively set free, we see and discern God s will more clearly for ourselves.
Three Ways We Are Wounded Though there are a number of ways we can be hurt, often the wounds of our soul often comes into our lives in one of these ways. Sin Proverbs 26:22 TPT Gossip is so delicious, and how we love to swallow it! For slander is easily absorbed into our innermost being. Psalm 41:4 TPT So in my sickness I say to you, Lord, be my kind healer. Heal my body and soul; heal me, God! For I have confessed my sins to you. Trauma Job 7:11 NKJV Therefore I will not restrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul. Death is very traumatic. Loss can create deep wounds. Generational Wounds There are generational sins that are passed on from fathers to sons, mothers to daughters. Psalms 51:5 NKJV Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me. Unconfessed sin and wrong patterns of living can be passed down generationally. Thankfully, the Blood of Jesus is powerful enough to overcome these things. God loves families and sees generationally and wants to see not only you free but your children who follow you free also.
The cross is eternal and can forever deal with the sins we ve committed. When Jesus said, It is finished He was declaring that the work was done and every provision was made to accomplish salvation. Manifestations of Soul Wounds Weakness or Sickness Acts 3:1 2 KJV 1 Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour. 2 And a certain man lame from his mother s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; Lame impotent Lack of Peace Proverbs 23:7 NKJV For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. Eat and drink! he says to you, But his heart is not with you. The strength of your soul is connected to your prosperity. 3 John 1:2 NKJV Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God. Because the men s souls were grieved, they turned on David. They knew that David was trying to help them and lead them into a better life. But it was the wound in their soul that caused them to lash out on him. Hurt people hurt people. Extreme distress and grief of our will cause you to turn on the people who are meant to bless and help us. An example of this is Joseph s brothers - their jealousy caused them to attack the very one meant to be their deliverer. Financial Problems prospers Succeed in business affairs Three Weapons God gives us weapons to use in order to fight the devil off and see our souls set free. The Cross Jesus made provision for everything that we would face. God has made a way. It is finished. We can rest in the finished work of Christ on the cross. We were forgiven, healed and given great and precious promises (1 Peter 2:24, 2 Peter 1:4).
We don t work for salvation or healing. Jesus has done the work. The Blood of Jesus 1 John 1:9 9 TPT 9 But if we freely admit our sins when his light uncovers them, he will be faithful to forgive us every time. God is just to forgive us our sins because of Christ, and he will continue to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Power from God Philippians 3:10 NKJV that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, Power, dunamis The ability to do miracles strength of soul The same power that raised Christ from the dead is available to us to raise us up and heal us from every soul wound (Romans 8:11). This power is not just for you to be saved, but also for you to be set free (cf. John 8:36). Conclusion When the devil came against Jesus, the Lord said that there was nothing that he could use against Him (John 14:30). But we have opened doors and we have been wounded. God restores our soul. No matter how badly we ve been wounded.
